Bernier said the invocation of the Emergencies Act on Feb. 14 for the first time in Canadian history did not significantly impact the planning process for the operation that cleared the streets of protesters around Parliament Hill four days later. “The plan I was developing was based on existing authorities,” he told the commission. “I was satisfied we were going to have all the authorities we needed to take action.”

Coalition Presents Letter Signed by Canadian Scientists, Asking Health Officials to Affirm COVID Vaccine ‘Safety Risks’

A coalition of over 20 public interest groups is calling on the federal government to publicly affirm the “material risks and scientific uncertainties” related to COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, presenting a letter signed by 19 doctors, scientists, and academics across the country.

Coming together as the “Citizens’ Group,” the coalition wrote the letter to Jean-Yves Duclos and Dr. Theresa Tam dated Oct. 13, asking for “transparent answers” to all questions and concerns revolving around COVID-19 vaccines.

Ottawa’s ‘net-zero’ transit plan disconnected from reality

In case you haven’t heard, the Trudeau government has a plan for Canada to become a “net-zero” emitter of greenhouse gases by 2050 with an interim plan to 2030. As some analysts (including myself) have observed, this is a quixotic endeavour doomed to failure, at the cost of many billions of taxpayer dollars and a great deal of economic wastage. And according to the most recent wisdom from Greta Thunberg, even if “we carried out all of our climate action plans, we’d still be in trouble. Net zero by 2050 is simply too little, too late. There is just too much at stake for us to place our destiny in the hands of undeveloped technologies. We need real zero.”

WEF Calls for ‘Interventions’ in Free Speech to ‘Improve Safety’

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is calling for increased censorship and “interventions” in free speech rights to “improve safety” online.

In a new twist, German economist Klaus Schwab’s organization claims it is “thinking of the children” with its new push for online content moderation.

The group’s “formative content” senior writer lays out its new “protect the kids” agenda in a piece published on the WEF website.

The WEF argues that Big Tech companies must ramp up censorship efforts by removing content and applying warning labels to people’s posts to “enhance safety in digital spaces.”

This October, at the Twentieth National Party Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Xi Jinping was elected to a third term as chairman. “The New Mao” — so has rung the common refrain.
It’s an entirely accurate assessment. The very existence of the two-term-limit precedent that Xi has now broken was set in place by Mao’s successor, Deng Xiaoping, in 1982. The reasoning behind the term limit was to prevent the cult-of-personality chaos that Mao and his sycophants had whipped up during his untrammeled, ruler-for-life tenure at the helm of the Chinese state. Deng wanted to make China rich enough so its citizens wouldn’t care that they were not free. To do that, he needed law and order, not proto-woke Red Guards beating up middle school teachers.

The leader of Canada’s Quebec separatist party has renewed calls for the country to sever its ties with the “incredibly racist” and “slave-driven” British monarchy ahead of the coronation of King Charles III.

The Bloc Québécois leader, Yves-François Blanchet, tabled a motion on Tuesday, widely seen as purely symbolic, in the House of Commons.

“It’s archaic. It’s a thing of the past. It’s almost archaeological. It’s humiliating,” Blanchet told lawmakers of Canada’s longstanding ties to the monarchy.

Germany Is Dismantling A Wind Farm To Make Way For A Coal Mine

A wind farm is being dismantled in western Germany to make way for an expansion of an open-pit lignite coal mine in a “paradoxical” situation highlighting the current prioritization of energy security over clean energy in Europe’s biggest economy.

The dismantling of at least one wind turbine at the wind farm close to the German coal mine Garzweiler, operated by energy giant RWE, has already started. RWE says that lignite, or brown coal, has been mined from the Garzweiler coalfields for over 100 years.

Hundreds of Russians sanctioned over Ukraine war can still enter Canada

OTTAWA — The more than 1,200 individuals sanctioned by the Liberal government in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine are not automatically banned from entering Canada, the National Post has learned.

“The sanctions applied to date in response to the situation in Ukraine do not presently trigger inadmissibility” under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, the Canada Border Services Agency confirmed.

Cut meat consumption to two burgers a week to save planet, study suggests

Meat consumption should be reduced to the equivalent of about two burgers a week in the developed world, and public transport expanded about six times faster than its current rate, if the world is to avoid the worst ravages of the climate crisis, research has suggested.

Rates of deforestation must also be rapidly reduced, and phasing out coal must happen about six times faster than is currently being managed. Heavy industries such as cement and steel are not moving fast enough in cutting their emissions, and the rapid growth of renewable energy and electric vehicle adoption must be maintained.
