Peace, order and get on with it: Canadians proud, hopeful and agreeable, poll shows

A new poll from a prominent British pollster sketches the outline of a steady civic peace in Canada and debunks more familiar worries about expanding ideological divides.

Rather than the polarized society on display in America and Europe, the poll of 10,000 Canadians describes a nation that is proud and hopeful “in a modest Canadian kind of way, if you’ll allow me to say that,” said Michael Ashcroft, a pollster and former deputy chairman of the U.K. Conservative Party.

Support for immigration is wide and deep? I’m not buying that. This poll seems more a propaganda exercise.

Canadian gun myths lead to bad government policy

Policy used as a political wedge to punish “bad” gun owners and reward “good” anti-gun activists will merely divide us. Worse, it won’t work.

… Our firearm-related homicides have been increasing since 2013, according to Statistics Canada. However, it is the breakdown in ownership and use that reveals much of the nonsense in Liberal gun policy. Firearm-related violent crime is highest in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the Territories. Rural men are far more likely to die by suicide than the Canadian average.

Our problems are growing, but rifles are almost as dangerous as handguns. Rural and small-town Canadians are far more likely to die by gun violence than people in large cities. Staring us in the face is the reality that most Canadian gun deaths are the product of social realities like family violence, despair and alcohol — not drug dealers.

Ban all guns is the message.

Justin’s CBC horrified to discover efforts to normalize exposing children to drag queens meets with resistance

Libraries in Canada hit by wave of hate, threats, as right-wing groups protest all-age drag events

Family-friendly drag events across Canada, many hosted by municipal libraries, have been targeted by a deluge of hateful comments and threats during Pride month, prompting multiple police investigations and renewed concerns about the safety of the LGBTQ community.

More than half a dozen libraries and drag performers, from Saint John to Victoria, reported being inundated online and over the phone by homophobic slurs and, in some cases, threats of violence.

Drag Story Hour events are popular at many libraries in the country, and usually feature a performer in drag reading children’s books about inclusion. They are often held in collaboration with local LGBTQ associations and have caused only minor controversy in the past. 

Family Friendly? Because exposing children to drag queens is normal for the CBC.

When the national broadcaster is pedophile adjacent it’s time to pull the plug on funding.

Survivors recount Mali’s deadliest attack by Mohammedans since coup

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — Moussa Tolofidie didn’t think twice when nearly 100 jihadis on motorbikes gathered in his village in central Mali last week.

A peace agreement signed last year between some armed groups and the community in the Bankass area had largely held, even if the gunmen would sometimes enter the town to preach Shariah to the villagers. But on this Sunday in June, everything changed — the jihadis began killing people.

“They started with an old man about 100 years old … then the sounds of the weapons began to intensify around me and then at one moment I heard a bullet whistling behind my ear. I felt the earth spinning, I lost consciousness and fell to the ground,” Tolofidie, a 28-year-old farmer told The Associated Press by phone Friday in Mopti town, where he was receiving medical care.

The following are among the abuses Muslims inflicted on Christians throughout the month of May 2022:

Murder and Mayhem in Nigeria:

On May 12, the Islamic State in Nigeria released a video of its members slaughtering 20 Christians. The ISIS terrorists were dressed in black, which covered everything but their eyes. In the video, the Christians appear on their knees, their hands tied behind their backs. A man holding a knife stands behind them. The terrorists claim that the murder of these 20 Christians is “payback” for ISIS leaders killed three months earlier in Syria by the U.S. Although the scene is reminiscent of the 2015 video of another pack of Muslim terrorists slaughtering 21 Coptic Christians in Libya, it received far less media coverage. The 2015 video of the Copts had received six times less media coverage than the killing of a gorilla about the same time. The video of the Nigerian Christians also barely made a peep in the Western media — as if the ritual slaughter of Christians is now so normal, it does not merit a report.

‘Green’ Germany Prepares To Fire Up the Coal Furnaces

Somehow, Germany, a country where the government is firmly committed to “green” energy, is preparing to fire up coal-burning power plants. The move is even more remarkable given that officials stubbornly refuse to restart mothballed nuclear facilities, or even reconsider the timeline for retiring those that remain online. It’s an astonishing situation for a country that very recently boasted that it would soon satisfy all its energy needs with sunshine and cool summer breezes.

RAF vets take to the skies one last time

The hangar is patriotically dressed with tiny flags and a large resin model of a Sunderland bomber. Miniature pilots in its cockpit have painted smiles. Sensible women are handing out buns and tea. Forties jazz plays; I might be in a JB Priestley novel, or at a village fete. The war may never have ended. And dotted around the room, unmistakable, unmistakably old are 48 RAF veterans.

This is Project Propeller, today. Every year, since 1999, it has spirited Royal Air Force vets up in the sky again. Younger pilots come for the war stories, and to say thank you. The vets meet their old comrades.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is either one of the dumbest people ever to trod the Earth, one of the most hypocritical, stupendously fiendish…or some combination of the aforementioned.

Trudeau took to Twitter recently to solemnly state: “The news coming out of the United States is horrific. My heart goes out to the millions of American women who are now set to lose their legal right to an abortion. I can’t imagine the fear and anger you are feeling right now.”

America Has Donald Trump To Thank For Roe v. Wade Finally Being Overturned

There were many seen and unseen forces that contributed to the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, but a large part of the credit for the U.S. Supreme Court finally overruling Roe v. Wade goes to former President Donald Trump for nominating solid justices who could see an “egregiously wrong” decision as something that desperately needed to be undone.

Without Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett who, despite facing an intense intimidation campaign from openly violent leftists, stood behind the judicial belief that there is no constitutional right to abortion, Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas wouldn’t have had the backup they needed to overturn 50 years of an “exceptionally weak” ruling that had “damaging consequences” on Americans for years.

The EU is no friend of Ukraine

The pledge to make Ukraine an EU member is nothing more than a virtue-signal.

It’s been quite the performance from the European Union. Just over a week ago, the leaders of the EU’s dominant nations – Germany, France and Italy – enjoyed a day out in Kyiv, posing alongside Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and pledging to support his nation’s quest to join what German chancellor Olaf Scholz called ‘the European family’. This little Ukrainian jaunt, it turned out, was a mere prelude for the EU’s big announcement on Thursday evening. That was when the 27-nation bloc announced that it had finally decided to accept Ukraine’s most recent application for EU membership, made at the start of the war, and grant it ‘candidate’ status. European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, dressed in the Ukrainian colours, called Ukraine’s candidature ‘a good day for Europe’. Moldova has also been granted candidate status, but that now seems like a mere afterthought.

The Freedom Convoy’s Renegade Jew

Benjamin Dichter, the free-thinking, radical nonconformist at the heart of Canada’s trucker protests, continues a long history of Jewish social activism

For two weeks this past February, Benjamin Dichter was thrust into the absurdist spotlight of modern political celebrity. A trucker-led convoy opposed to Canada’s digital COVID vaccine passport system had paralyzed downtown Ottawa, inspired the wildcat occupation and shutdown of several U.S.-Canadian border crossings, and provoked a quasi-authoritarian response from the Canadian government, which forcibly dispersed the protesters’ encampment, jailed the movement’s leaders, summarily froze their bank accounts, and seized, blocked, or escrowed nearly all of the estimated $20 million in non-bitcoin-based funds they’d raised. As chief media spokesman for the so-called Freedom Convoy, Dichter was the public face of one side of a shocking Canadian civic crackup. Depending on your point of view, the Freedom Convoy was either the unexpected culmination of the developed world’s COVID-era class war and a dark vision of the technocratic liberal state’s oppressive game plan, or an event that showed how easily marching hordes of ignorant and hateful populists could rise from the fringes to hijack a modern democracy. Dichter became the face of the former camp; the latter belonged to Justin Trudeau, dreamboat liberal champion and head of government of a country of 38 million people.
