MP Says Vaccine Manufacturer Not Answering ‘Basic Questions’ on Why Liability Clauses Were Requested

A Conservative MP says the president of the Canadian arm of AstraZeneca couldn’t answer questions at a parliamentary committee as to why the company asked for clauses to be shielded from liability for vaccine-related injuries.

“‘Indemnification clauses’ protect manufacturers of #vaccines from liability. Today at the Foreign Affairs Committee the President of @AstraZenecaCA could not answer basic questions about why indemnification clauses were asked for and how they apply,” MP Garnett Genuis said in a tweet on April 25.

Transnistria and Ukraine conflict: Is war spreading?

Mysterious explosions in Transnistria, a breakaway Russian-controlled territory in Moldova bordering on Ukraine, have raised fears that the Ukraine conflict may be spreading.

Separatist authorities said Ukrainian “infiltrators” were responsible. But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has blamed Russian special services.

Russia says it is concerned. It has about 1,500 troops in Transnistria.

An official has said Russian speakers in Moldova are being oppressed.

This is the same excuse used to justify the invasion of Ukraine.

Russian forces capture several villages in push into eastern Ukraine

Russian forces have pushed deeper into eastern Ukraine and captured several villages in their offensive to fully control the two provinces of Donbas, Kyiv has said, while to the west there are mounting fears that the war may spill over into neighbouring Moldova.

The Ukrainian defence ministry said on Wednesday that Russian forces had pushed Kyiv’s army out of Velyka Komyshuvakha and Zavody, in the north-eastern Kharkiv region, and gained control over Zarichne and Novotoshkivske in Donetsk.

Terence Corcoran: You pick — the old CBC or Musk’s new Twitter

Among leftist hysterics over Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, one of the standouts has been Canada’s own national broadcaster. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s flagship news show, The National, opened Monday night with a report that portrayed Musk’s move as a harbinger of ideological bias and warped perspectives. This from one of the most warped and biased media in Canada, creating the potential for a Great Canadian Media Standoff. Who will Canadians pick — the old CBC or Musk’s new Twitter?

Meet Freshii’s new ‘virtual cashier’ — who works from Nicaragua for $3.75 an hour

Many Freshii customers have already encountered “Percy.”

The video-calling device is attached to cash registers at a select few Freshii locations across Ontario, and it lights up when customers approach the counter.

On the other end of the screen is a cashier wearing a headset, ready to take orders. Unlike the Freshii workers that wrap burritos and mop floors, these “virtual” workers are nowhere near the store. Instead, at least some of them process orders from a Nicaraguan call centre nearly 6,000 km away, where they earn much less than Ontario’s minimum wage.

Don’t worry. With mass immigration people will be begging for less right here in Canada and Freshii will reshore.

John Ivison: Emergencies Act inquiry is designed to find just what the Liberals want

The Liberals have heeded the age-old advice that governments should never set up public inquiries unless they know in advance what the findings will be.

Ministers provide few details to committee probing Liberals’ use of Emergencies Act

Justice Minister David Lametti repeatedly invoked cabinet confidentiality in his appearance before a special committee tasked with investigating the government’s use of the Emergencies Act.

Lametti was asked pointed questions Tuesday evening about federal consultations with provinces and others before declaring an emergency, and when the government received advice to revoke the declaration. On multiple occasions, he responded that he “would not betray cabinet confidence.”

Police investigating medically-assisted death of B.C. woman

Police in Abbotsford, B.C. confirm they are investigating the medically-assisted death of a 61-year-old woman whose daughters say should not have been approved for the procedure based on the state of her mental health at the time.

The case involves Donna Duncan, a nurse and mother who died on Oct. 29, 2021. It appears to be among the first assisted-death cases being reviewed by a police unit in Canada, although federal officials don’t keep statistics on when such cases are reported to police.

‘Burning the evidence before the new boss starts?’: Don Jnr and right wingers see giant leaps in their Twitter followers after Musk bid was accepted – as Obama and left wingers lose huge numbers

Prominent right-wing tweeters have seen their follower counts shoot up since Elon Musk took over, sparking claims their accounts had been suppressed by woke Twitter staffers.

Meanwhile, leading left-wing figures including Barack Obama as well as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have seen huge slumps since news of Musk’s purchase.

Donald Trump Jr, who has 7.7 million followers, saw his followers surge by 87,296 on Tuesday and suggested the increase was due to an algorithm tweak targeting prominent conservative voices ahead of Musk’s arrival.

Baby boomers now less than 25% of Canada’s population, 2021 census data shows

The latest census data from 2021 shows for the first time since the end of the baby boom, the boomer generation in Canada makes up less than a quarter of the country’s population.

The data also shows seniors over the age of 85 are among the fastest growing age groups in the country.

It’s another milestone on the slow march to what experts warn will be a crisis in care for Canada’s elders.

‘We are certainly right now in this country out of the pandemic phase,’ he announced on air.

Twitter, Facebook, Netflix, and the Myth of Permanent Platform Power

Today’s big powerful companies could become tomorrow’s also-rans, no government intervention required.

Twitter is changing ownership, following a purchase by Elon Musk, who has explicitly  said he intends to reorient the company’s approach to online speech. Netflix, whose business model has long been predicated on sky’s-the-limit growth, is bleeding subscribers. CNN+, a massively expensive project from what was once a dominant force in TV news, is shutting down a month after its launch. Facebook is losing regular users and taking a huge financial hit because of changes in the mobile ad space. Google is no longer the world’s most popular website.
