The Ghost in the Machine Gun

The Problem Is Ordinary Killers, Not Exotic Guns

Finding a really nice classic Mustang is not always easy and is never cheap, and, for years, a handful of very committed car enthusiasts have been making an end-run around the classic-car market and the restoration industry both by more or less building entirely new cars from the parts catalogue. This is something that is a lot easier to do with very popular classics such as the Mustang than it would be with (alas!) the 1966 Volvo P1800 I very stupidly bought as a broke college student. In reality, building a new Mustang from the catalogue entails a lot more than ordering the parts and putting them together — there is a reason most cars are built in factories rather than in artisans’ workshops. But you can do it, if you really want to.

The UN Human Rights Council must be abolished

Rather than talking about ousting Putin, the hypocritical, useless Council, filled with human rights abusers, should abolish itself

An investigation by Israeli experts reveals that Chinese authorities are killing prisoners in “re-education camps” to take their organs and sell them for transplantation to local and foreign clients. Ethan Gutmann, a researcher and human rights activist, said last week that China kills 25,000 people every year in Xinjiang to have their organs removed. Customers are mainly wealthy Chinese. But there are also “organ tourists”, from South Koreans to Gulf Muslims. Rabbis in Israel have banned going to China for transplants.

Wouldn’t that be enough, along with all the other dossiers concerning the Chinese regime, to ask for an investigation by the UN Human Rights Council, which has just been called upon to expel Russia?

Earth day is coming up. It is a good time to remind the public what the predictions were 52 years ago

On the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970, the world was warned that billions would die soon because of a disastrous ice age. The Earth had been cooling for thirty years, and it was about to get much worse. Crops would not survive the ice age, so the people couldn’t be fed. The Earth was cooling even though CO2, the population, and fossil fuel consumption were rising rapidly, which we are told causes warming.

Hunter Biden’s Laptop Leverage

Will America’s woke, partisan intelligence community now turn on Joe Biden?

Federal investigation of Hunter Biden heats up,” headlined a March 30 CNN story that mentioned “a laptop purported to belong to Hunter Biden and said to include his business documents and other potentially salacious materials.” As CNN previously reported, the FBI took possession of the laptop in late 2019.

On October 19, 2020, 51 former intelligence officials claimed Hunter Biden’s laptop was “Russian disinformation.” Since the laptop became a news item last month, the intelligence crew has not owned up to any falsehoods or expressed any second thoughts. The back story here is American disinformation, from official American sources.

Sweden’s inconvenient Covid victory – Were millions of people denied freedom for nothing?

When, the summer before last, the results of the first Covid wave began to be tallied in the media, there were different ways of measuring the devastation. One way of looking at the pandemic was to focus on how many people died — more than half a million around the world by the end of June. Another was to try assessing the complicated impacts of the various measures taken to combat the virus. When a lot of the functions in society were frozen, people struggled — especially the most vulnerable.

Extinction Rebellion vs the people

These eco-zealots don’t care if they’re making our lives more difficult.

These are serious times in which we live. War is raging in Ukraine. The global energy market is now in turmoil. And here in the UK, we are now in the grip of an unprecedented cost-of-living crisis, with inflation rising, household bills set to leap by over 50 per cent, and wages stagnant. Millions of people are worried about the fundamentals. About keeping the roof over their heads. About getting food on the table.

And yet the UK’s resident eco-prats – Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil – clearly think nothing of any of this.

Pope Francis Abandons Christ’s Cross to Appease Muslims

Pope Francis, a leading advocate of Doormat Christianity, is at it again. Although it is traditional for papal podiums to depict the crucifix, during his recent visit to the island of Malta, Pope Francis ditched the cross lest it offend Muslim migrants. As the archdiocese of Malta openly admitted, “The podium will not be adorned with a crucifix, given that the majority of migrants are Muslim.”

Spiraling housing prices caused by the Liberal Party’s ludicrous mass immigration scam are an ‘intergenerational injustice’, says Freeland

Canada’s finance minister has described the country’s out-of-control housing prices as an “intergenerational injustice”, as political leaders struggle to rein in a spiralling affordability crisis.

Chrystia Freeland, who also serves as Canada’s deputy prime minister, said the issue is her top domestic concern.

… “We cannot have the fastest growing population in the G7 without also having the fastest growing housing stock,” she said.

And their intervention in the market is going to solve the problem they themselves created.

Alrighty.

Matthew Lau: Circling the toilet bowl of socialism

Had I been in charge of titling last week’s federal budget, it would have been called something like “Circling the toilet bowl of socialism.” We’re not quite in the bowl yet, but with this budget, we’re circling it. The Liberals instead called their budget “A Plan to Grow Our Economy and Make Life More Affordable,” a far less accurate description, for their policies are exactly the opposite of what they should be if they really want to grow the economy. As a matter of basic economics, to encourage economic growth, taxes must be low, simple, predictable, and broadly applied, in order to minimize distortions and provide certainty. The Liberals have broken all the rules of sensible taxation by making taxes higher, more distortionary, more arbitrary, and less certain.

Frank R. James ID’d as person of interest in Brooklyn subway shooting

A 62-year-old man has been identified as a person of interest in the savage Brooklyn subway attack that injured at least 29 people Tuesday morning, officials said.

Frank James rented a U-Haul van tied to the N train attack in Sunset Park and is being sought for questioning, police said at an evening briefing.

The key to the van was found at the scene of the crime, as was a credit card that rented the vehicle out of Philadelphia, cops and law-enforcement sources said.

Oh my a Black Nationalist!

Putin ‘purges’ 150 FSB agents in response to Russia’s botched war with Ukraine

A “Stalinist” mass purge of Russian secret intelligence is under way after more than 100 agents were removed from their jobs and the head of the department responsible for Ukraine was sent to prison.

In a sign of President Putin’s fury over the failures of the invasion, about 150 Federal Security Bureau (FSB) officers have been dismissed, including some who have been arrested.

All of those ousted were employees of the Fifth Service, a division set up in 1998, when Putin was director of the FSB to carry out operations in the countries of the former Soviet Union with the aim of keeping them within Russia’s orbit.
