Tuesday, Joe Biden took to a podium at the White House and did perhaps the one virtuous and potentially effective thing he’s done since his inauguration. Biden signaled, as part of the non-kinetic war he’s declared against Russia, that America will no longer buy the 650,000 barrels a day of oil we’re currently buying from them.
In case you might be confused, this column seeks not to credit Joe Biden.

For providing military aid to Ukraine after the Russian invasion, the Biden administration has congratulated itself for standing strong. NATO and the West summoned a cohesion and a collective indignation unanticipated by Putin. Germany’s profession of the intent to increase military spending to 2 percent and to wean itself at least partially off its over-reliance on Russian oil and natural gas were especially deserving of praise. At the same time, however, one recent incident is disturbing in terms of a lack of resolve.
A tyrant can get a fair hearing if he opposes Nato
The far Left exposed itself this week in a series of meetings and rallies and encounters about Ukraine, for a tyrant bombing civilians will get a fair hearing from them if he is not a member of Nato.
Putin needs a buffer in Ukraine, said one on Twitter. Would you be a buffer, was one reply, and the tweet was duly taken down. The far Left’s most pleasing character trait is its cowardice. It collapses easily. Nato expansion is de rigueur in eastern Europe for countries seeking to join the EU, said a woman at a Stop the War meeting, as if national sovereignty — which she is blessed to have — is something trivial for those defending it in Ukraine.
This week the price of oil touched $139 a barrel, a 14-year high. International gas prices also surged to £6 a therm – 10 to 15 times their normal level.
It is too early to say how durable these enormous shocks will prove. However, both directly and indirectly, Western households, industry, farming, services and many other sectors depend on oil and gas for their transport and their electric power. They will be severely affected for as long as international markets price oil and gas at anything like these kinds of levels.
It’s time for your red pill. Something smells rotten in Ukraine. The story is rotten, rancid, hinky; the story just doesn’t add up.
President Joe Biden and the media desperately want you to believe Russia is the bad guy and Ukraine is a little angel. They want you to fall in love with underdog Ukraine. They want you to support America getting involved on behalf of Ukraine.

A police task force has seized some of the cryptocurrency from a donation drive in support of the Ottawa trucker protests, one of the proponents of the fundraiser revealed in court documents filed on Tuesday.

The Biden administration will not resume construction on the Keystone XL pipeline, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday.
“There are no plans for that,” Ms. Psaki said of restarting construction. “It would not address any of the problems that we are currently having.”
The pipeline would have brought as much as 700,000 barrels of oil per day into the U.S. from Canada. Republicans and some Canadian officials have called to restart construction on the halted project as the U.S. seeks to boost its oil supply and gas prices push toward $5.

The Ukraine War isn’t going well for anybody, but it seems like the country making the biggest mistakes is the biggest country not even fighting there.
Yeah, that’s the United States, led, as it were, by Presidentish Joe Biden.

Scientists have found and filmed one of the greatest ever undiscovered shipwrecks 107 years after it sank.
The Endurance, the lost vessel of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, was found at the weekend at the bottom of the Weddell Sea.
The ship was crushed by sea-ice and sank in 1915, forcing Shackleton and his men to make an astonishing escape on foot and in small boats.
Video of the remains show Endurance to be in remarkable condition.

The world, both physical and digital, finds itself in unprecedented times as the conflict in Ukraine rages.
