Florida’s DeSantis Proposes Legislation to Allow Parents to Sue Schools Teaching Critical Race Theory

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday that legislation he’s proposing would allow parents and teachers to sue schools and employees to sue employers who make them participate in policies or teaching involving the principles of critical race theory (CRT).

The Republican governor has already banned CRT teachings in public schools. The proposed Stop Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees (Stop WOKE) Act would be the first legislation of its kind in the nation, “going on the offense against both corporate wokeness and critical race theory in our schools,” a prepared statement from the governor’s office said.

CAIR backs leader after ‘virulently anti-Semitic’ speech attacking mainstream Jewish entities

There is a new scourge befouling the media landscape, one that our self-appointed mandarins have declared themselves eager to combat: misinformation.

The Aspen Institute’s Commission on Information Disorder recently released a report that blamed misinformation for a range of social problems: “Information disorder is a crisis that exacerbates all other crises . . . Information disorder makes any health crisis more deadly. It slows down our response time on climate change. It undermines democracy. It creates a culture in which racist, ethnic, and gender attacks are seen as solutions, not problems. Today, mis- and disinformation have become a force multiplier for exacerbating our worst problems as a society. Hundreds of millions of people pay the price, every single day, for a world disordered by lies.”

Bugs across globe are evolving to eat plastic, study finds

Microbes in oceans and soils across the globe are evolving to eat plastic, according to a study.

The research scanned more than 200m genes found in DNA samples taken from the environment and found 30,000 different enzymes that could degrade 10 different types of plastic.

The study is the first large-scale global assessment of the plastic-degrading potential of bacteria and found that one in four of the organisms analysed carried a suitable enzyme. The researchers found that the number and type of enzymes they discovered matched the amount and type of plastic pollution in different locations.

Ontario expands eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots, cuts capacity limits in some indoor spaces

Ontario is expanding eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots to anyone 18 and older starting Monday and is limiting capacity in some indoor spaces as cases of the Omicron variant surge in the province.

The government also announced Wednesday it’s shortening the required interval between a person’s second dose and booster shot from six months down to three months.

Starting Dec. 18, Ontario will reintroduce capacity limits of 50 per cent for indoor entertainment venues, meeting and event spaces, and sports venues with an indoor capacity of greater than 1,000 people.

UK: Chief medical officer warns of ‘two epidemics on top of each other’ as UK records highest ever daily total of new cases

Britain is being hit by “two epidemics on top of each other” and big rise in hospitalisations is “a nailed-on prospect”, Chris Whitty has warned as the UK recorded its largest number of daily cases since the start of the pandemic.

Amid surging Omicron cases, the chief medical officer advised the public to ensure they could spend Christmas with friends and family by “de-prioritising” other social contact – suggesting this may include work parties.

It came as 78,610 new Covid infections were reported on Wednesday – the highest since 8 January this year. Whitty admitted that “records will be broken a lot over the next few weeks as the rates continue to go up”.

Twitter to Penalize Users Who Claim Vaccinated People Can Spread Covid-19

Twitter will begin imposing penalties on users who claim that vaccinated people can spread Covid-19, according to a change quietly added to the website’s terms of service.

“When tweets include misleading information about Covid-19, we may place a label on those tweets that includes corrective information about that claim,” the website notes in a section detailing its rules about Covid-19 misinformation. “We may apply labels to tweets that contain, for example… false or misleading claims that people who have received the vaccine can spread or shed the virus (or symptoms, or immunity) to unvaccinated people.”

Twitter is committing suicide.

San Francisco mayor London Breed called for more “aggressive” policing in the city on Tuesday to combat smash-and-grab robberies and other crime, over a year after proposing budget cuts to the police department amid a nationwide movement to defund police.

“It’s time the reign of criminals who are destroying our city, it is time for it to come to an end,” Breed said at a press conference at City Hall. “And it comes to an end when we take the steps to be more aggressive with law enforcement. More aggressive with the changes in our policies and less tolerant of all the bulls*** that has destroyed our city.”

Islamist front group CAIR fires Ohio leader for working with ‘anti-Muslim group’ Investigative Project on Terrorism

An Ohio chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization fires its leader, Romin Iqbal, for ethical and professional breaches that it says include a years-long secret association with an anti-Muslim group.

The probe found “conclusive evidence that Iqbal had spent years recording CAIR network meetings and passing information regarding CAIR’s national advocacy work to a known anti-Muslim hate group,” a release says.

During a briefing, spokesperson Whitney Siddiqi identifies the group as the Investigative Project on Terrorism, led by Steve Emerson.

Trudeau says Canadians need to make ‘careful decisions about Christmas’

Speaking briefly to reporters before an announcement on travel restrictions expected later today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canadians need to be prudent when making plans for the holidays.

“Canadians have been attentive [to COVID-19] for months and months. We’ve seen that people know how to do the right thing. They’re going to have to be vigilant and make careful decisions about Christmas,” Trudeau said in French before the start of a Liberal caucus meeting this morning.

Speaking with reporters on the red carpet of the film’s premiere, Zegler, who plays the titular character Maria, said Spielberg’s decision to eliminate subtitles from the Spanish-speaking scenes was an act of “respect” and an acknowledgment of the fact that English is not the “official language” of the United States.

Epstein settlement ‘shielding’ Prince Andrew should be public, judge says

A secret 2008 settlement that a lawyer for Britain’s Prince Andrew says would protect him against a lawsuit claiming he sexually abused an American when she was 17 should be made public, a judge said on Tuesday.

The agreement was reached between Virginia Giuffre and Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in 2019 while awaiting a sex trafficking trial in New York City.

Giuffre was among many women who said Epstein sexually abused them when they were underage.
