Leaked records open a ‘Pandora’ box of financial secrets

Hundreds of world leaders, powerful politicians, billionaires, celebrities, religious leaders and drug dealers have been hiding their investments in mansions, exclusive beachfront property, yachts and other assets for the past quarter-century, according to a review of nearly 12 million files obtained from 14 firms located around the world.

The report released Sunday by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists involved 600 journalists from 150 media outlets in 117 countries. It’s being dubbed the “Pandora Papers” because the findings shed light on the previously hidden dealings of the elite and the corrupt, and how they have used offshore accounts to shield assets collectively worth trillions of dollars.

In most instances nothing “illegal” was done. The rich are different from you and I. They don’t get picked on by the CRA.

A man has been charged after several women were attacked with a hammer after being sexually assaulted in Regent Street, one of London’s busiest and most famous thoroughfares.

1,606 People Shot June Thru August Alone in Mayor Lightfoot‘s Chicago

Over 1,600 people were shot June 2021 through August 2021 in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.

CNN reported 1,606 were shot, with 261 of the shooting victims dying from their wounds.

They noted 770 people were killed in Chicago throughout all of 2020 and the city is on track to surpass that number.

New Zealand drops ‘zero-COVID’ strategy

New Zealand has abandoned its long-standing COVID-19 elimination strategy in the face of a challenging delta outbreak, authorities announced on Monday. Instead, the country will focus on increasing vaccination rates and learning to live with the virus.

“With this outbreak and delta the return to zero is incredibly difficult,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said in a major policy shift.

“This is a change in approach we were always going to make over time. Our delta outbreak has accelerated this transition. Vaccines will support it,” she said.

A former Facebook whistleblower responsible for a series of bombshell leaks has revealed her identity.

Frances Haugen, 37, who worked as a product manager on the civic integrity team at Facebook, was interviewed on Sunday by CBS.

She said the documents she leaked proved that Facebook repeatedly prioritised “growth over safety”.

Facebook said the leaks were misleading and glossed over positive research conducted by the company.

Tofino trip may only hasten Trudeau’s departure

Justin Trudeau’s ill-considered trip to Tofino on the very first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation does more than remind us, yet again, of his sense of entitlement and his chronically poor judgment. It tells us that he may not be Prime Minister that much longer.

A futile election, a lack of fresh initiatives and a disjointed economy all point to Mr. Trudeau’s departure before the next election. The latest family vacation embarrassment might hasten the move.
