Coffee shops, retail stores, even hotels are ditching humans to serve you better

Vandhana Mohanraj and her partner Faisal Fakhani had just finished their regular grocery run when the couple decided to stop for coffee.

At the storefront for the fledgling Caffeo shop in downtown Toronto, Mohanraj punched in her choice – a vanilla latte – and tapped her card on the payment pad. Then the café’s “barista” went to work.

Ukraine’s death toll is a secret. Its overflowing graveyards are not

As the coffin is carried through the cobbled streets of Lviv, a hush descends and passersby drop to their knees. Traffic comes to a standstill, a lone bugler sounds his tune and Stepan Telychko, the latest of the city’s fallen warriors, is sent to his final rest.

The mourners will gather at the graveside not in Lviv’s storied Lychakiv Cemetery, known as Ukraine’s Père Lachaise, nor in the adjacent military cemetery known as the “Field of Mars”. After almost four years of war, on December 10 it ran out of burial plots.

Tariffs and a Christmas Reckoning for Canadian Shop Owners

For Tina Nguyen, a Canadian muralist in Belleville, Ontario, Christmas is part of another nativity story: the birth of her hair-accessory business. It all started six years ago, when Ms. Nguyen gave a cousin one of her handmade, pillowy hair scrunchies, inspiring her to sell them on the internet, where they quickly became a hit.

But this Christmas will be the end of that story. President Trump’s protectionist policies have put a significant dent in sales, said Ms. Nguyen, whose company, XXL Scrunchie & Co., relies on American shoppers for half its business.

Report: Cuba Has Purchased over $8 Billion Worth of Food from the U.S. Since 2001

Cuba’s communist regime, which regularly rants about the purported U.S. “embargo” hurting its economy, has purchased over $8 billion worth of agricultural and food products from the U.S. since 2001, the Madrid-based outlet Diario de Cuba reported on Monday.

For decades, the Cuban regime and its allies around the world have incessantly presented a false narrative that the United States’ “embargo” on Cuba is the one and only cause of all of Cuba’s shortcomings — and not the decades’ worth of failed communist policies, brutal repression, and gross mismanagement of the country’s infrastructure that has pushed the island-nation to the brink of complete ruin.

Military considers permanent bases in Latvia as part of Canada’s NATO commitment

Canada’s military operations command has embarked on a study about how the country’s NATO deployment in Latvia can be realistically sustained into the future, and one of options could involve more permanent basing, says a senior commander.

Lt.-Gen. Steve Boivin, the commander of the Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC), said they are just beginning the analysis and recommendations have not been made to the chief of the defence staff, let alone the federal government.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced last August an extension of the Canadian mission in Latvia to 2029.

Trump admin bars five ‘egregious’ Europeans from entering US due to ‘extraterritorial censorship’

The State Department is barring five “egregious” European figures in the “global censorship-industrial complex” from entering the US, it revealed Tuesday.

State Department officials contended that those five Europeans flouted a visa policy rolled out in May restricting those who work to censor protected speech in the US from entering the country.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organized efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared Tuesday.

LILLEY: Liberal policies have destroyed Canada’s justice system

In Canada, we now have bail for people charged with sexual assault, kidnapping with a firearm and possession of an illegal firearm. We also have reduced sentences for repeat violent sexual offenders based on their race.

It’s an outrageous situation and both instances are due to bad Liberal justice policies.

The migrant social workers who RAPED women in Swedish care homes

Sweden is in the midst of battling a migrant care worker sexual assault crisis, making elderly women vulnerable to traumatic violence.

An Iraqi citizen raped an 100-year-old woman in Stockholm in October, but was not deported on the basis that he has strong ties to the country.

An elderly woman died a week after being sexually assaulted by a Syrian care worker – who visited her house on the pretense of assisting her, and instead entered her bed without consent.

The Liberals set up a PSW migrant path, rape is what they had in mind for Granny.

Aboriginal title cannot be used to restrict Canadian airspace, Ottawa says

An Indigenous group in northern B.C. has attempted to use Aboriginal title to claim the airspace above Crown land, expelling a local helicopter company and B.C. government forestry officials.

The conflict, which occurred over the summer, grew to involve the federal and provincial governments, before Ottawa declared in writing to four B.C. cabinet ministers in a Dec. 12 letter that Aboriginal title cannot be used to restrict any flights in Canadian airspace.

It’s the latest in a series of escalating, and confusing, interpretations of Aboriginal title in British Columbia.

Joy Reid doubles down on Erika Kirk attacks after TPUSA’s AMFest jab

During her opening remarks at the TPUSA conference on Thursday, Kirk joked that Reid could use a “really good hug” and that she’d even touch the back of her head.

This was in reference to Reid disparaging Kirk for the way she hugged Vice President JD Vance during a Turning Point USA event.

Joe Adam George: From Toronto to Sydney, ISIS is still an active threat to the West

Prime Ministers Of Canada Carney & Elghawaby

Despite recent attacks and escalating risks, Islamist extremism is largely absent from Carney’s national security agenda

Last Friday, three men were arrested in Toronto and charged with hate-motivated extremism targeting women and members of the Jewish community. One of them, 26-year-old Waleed Khan, also faces terrorism charges linked to ISIS, an exceptionally violent Sunni jihadist group also known as the Islamic State. According to the RCMP, Khan allegedly conspired with “persons known and unknown” in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario to commit murder — a chilling indication that other extremist elements could be involved. It is the third ISIS-related arrest in Canada this year, following earlier cases in Montreal and Newmarket, bringing the total number of arrested suspects linked to the group since 2023 to 23.
