House approves bill to make DC a state

The House, in a party-line vote on Thursday, approved legislation to make Washington, D.C., the 51st state in the nation, sending the bill to the Senate.

It’s the second time the House has approved such legislation in two years, but the statehood bill, long a goal for the nation’s capital, faces an uphill climb in a Senate evenly divided between the two parties.

Winning a vote in the Senate would likely require ending the filibuster that requires most legislation to clear a 60-vote hurdle. Even then, not all 50 Democrats in the Senate back making D.C. a state.

Sign at George Floyd Square gives list of special orders for white visitors

The square where George Floyd was murdered by ex-Minnesota cop Derek Chauvin now has a sign with special rules for white people.

The placard at the entrance of George Floyd Square in Minnesota calls it “a sacred space for community, public grief, and protest,” telling visitors to “honor the space as a place to connect and grieve as caring humans.”

But most of the instructions are listed under five orders “for white people in particular.”

Portland’s Black Leaders Ask Woke White Folk to Stop Ruining Things

Portland’s Black Leaders Ask Woke White Folk to Stop Ruining Things

Well, this is uncomfortable.

Portland, OR has been bearing the brunt of more “peaceful protests” than any other city since last summer. Leftist anarchy reigns there, and there is no end in sight.

It has been noted by many that a lot of the riot types in Portland are “down with the struggle” white people. That seems a little racist at first blush. Probably because seeing a bunch of white people speak and act for black people is.

China’s Fishing Fleet Is Vacuuming the Oceans

Communist China seems increasingly to be depleting the world’s oceans of marine life. The country has by far the world’s largest fishing fleet of anywhere between 200,000 to 800,000 fishing boats — accounting for nearly half of the world’s fishing activity — approximately 17,000 of which belong to its distant-water fishing fleet. The growth has been made possible by enormous state subsidies. In 2012, for instance, the Chinese state poured $3.2 billion in subsidies into its fishing sector, most of it for fuel. However, according to a report from 2012, “government support for the fishing and aquaculture sector could be as much as CNY 500 billion (USD 80.2 billion, EUR 61.7 billion) when regional and national subsidies for rural-based fish farmers are taken into account.”

Ma’Khia Bryant’s military vet neighbor says his security camera footage proves Columbus cop had no choice but to shoot her

Home security footage has captured a new angle of the shooting of Ma’khia Bryant as a neighbor said he believes more people could have been killed if the officer hadn’t shot the 16-year-old black girl dead in Columbus, Ohio.

The 26-second video gives a glimpse into the moments leading up to Tuesday’s fatal incident as a girl – later identified as Bryant – is seen walking down a driveway toward other people at the very same time that a police car pulls up outside the home.

Bryant then appears to suddenly charge at another person in the driveway. What happened next was seen on police body camera footage released Wednesday.

WARMINGTON: Toronto’s COVID-19 policing squads loaded with land mines

Get out of town by sundown?

“The new enforcement approach begins April 22, 2021 at 5 p.m.,” say Toronto Police.

It’s like an ominous warning from the sheriff in an old Western movie. Could it be setting rank-and-file officers up for unnecessary conflicts while trampling people’s basic Charter rights? Does it give people being policed the heads up of when they are coming?

Bjorn Lomborg: This Earth Day let’s replace alarmism with smarter policy

Frank Stronach’s Eco-Mobile is the latest in a line of transportation “Game Changers”

This Earth Day, dramatic warnings about climate change will be ubiquitous. At his climate summit, U.S. President Joe Biden will undoubtedly repeat that global warming presents an “existential threat.”

But most of the hype will be vastly exaggerated. This pervasive climate alarmism is the culmination of persistent eco-anxiety over the past few decades. Already in 1982, the United Nations was predicting that, along with other environmental concerns, climate change could cause worldwide “devastation as complete, as irreversible as any nuclear holocaust” by the year 2000. Needless to say, that didn’t happen.

Only white people can be racist: Inside Global Affairs’ anti-racism course materials

Only white people can be racist: Inside Global Affairs’ anti-racism course materials

“Objectivity” and “worship of the written word” are being taught to Canadian diplomats as markers of “white supremacy”

Monday’s federal budget included a massive expansion of race-based programming, including a new drive for race-focused data collection, funding earmarked for what Ottawa is calling “equity deserving groups” and even a plan to prioritize government procurement from “Black-owned businesses.”

It’s a ramping up of an initiative first begun in 2019, when the Government of Canada began rolling out antiracism training within its departments in a bid to combat a federal bureaucracy that they asserted was shot through with “systemic racism.” Ottawa’s focus on antiracism training became all the more acute after worldwide Black Lives Matter protests prompted by the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd in police custody, which was reflected in the more than $300 million put towards “equity” programs in the 2021 budget.

Ontario reports 3,682 new China virus cases … and the India B1617 variant says hello with more to come

Ontario reports nearly 3,700 new cases of COVID-19 as number of patients in ICUs surpasses 800

Ontario is reporting nearly 3,700 new instances of COVID-19 but there may be some signs that case counts are finally starting to stabilize after weeks of exponential growth.

The Ministry of Health says that there were 3,682 new cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus confirmed on Wednesday, along with another 40 deaths.

B1617 variant has been detected in Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec region

A first case of B1617, a COVID-19 variant first detected in India, has been identified in Quebec’s Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec region, according to public health authorities.

This is thought to be the first case of this type of variant detected in Quebec. The Mauricie region is between Montreal and Quebec City.

The infected person was already in isolation during screening because another person in their home had tested positive, says the region’s health authority, the CIUSSS de Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec.

Ottawa consulting on stricter border measures, won’t stop flights from India

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is indicating the federal government is looking at additional COVID-19 measures to protect international borders but won’t stop flights into Canada from India.

In an interview with Global News Wednesday, Trudeau said community spread continues to be the main concern and not international travel.

I’m not sure which country Justin and his cronies are working for only that it isn’t Canada.
