Minneapolis will pay $27 million to settle a lawsuit brought by George Floyd’s family, a new record for a police payout in the city.
After a roughly 40-minute meeting, City Council members voted unanimously to approve the settlement, and Mayor Jacob Frey’s office said he will approve it as well.
Of the $27 million, $500,000 will be used “for the benefit of the community around 38th and Chicago,” where Floyd died.
A former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo described how he spotted her at a lobbying event, “grabbed her in a kind of dance pose” and then had her hired for his office, where he went on to “verbally and mentally abuse” her, she told New York Magazine, recalling how he would critique her outfits and once threatened to “end” her career over her failure to transfer a phone call.

Several Democratic members of New York’s congressional delegation, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and veteran Rep. Jerry Nadler, joined Friday in calls for Gov. Tam, Hajdu confident in Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine
OTTAWA — Canada’s top doctor and federal health minister say they see no reason to halt the use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in Canada, as other countries have done citing blood clots following inoculations.
Speaking to Evan Solomon, host of CTV News Channel’s Power Play, on Thursday, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said that because Canada hasn’t been supplied with the same batch of AstraZeneca vaccines as the several European countries who have suspended its use, there’s no need to follow suit.
If they’re endorsing it I’m staying away.
I’ll bet you haven’t heard this: more congenital anomalies/birth defects and emergency room visits were reported after getting a COVID vaccine in the U.S. than after any of the other 93 vaccine types in the CDC’s VAERS database. And more deaths than 92 other vaccine types.

The word has since been hijacked by the French Right – both the far right and more traditional conservatives — to mock attempts to combat racism or discrimination against France’s 5,000,000 Muslims.
Left-wing militants have reportedly turned a memorial site for George Floyd in Minneapolis into a “volatile” autonomous zone — where police and even other protesters aren’t welcome.
The memorial, called George Floyd Square, popped up in the days after the 46-year-old’s police-involved death on May 25 — the catalyst for a global movement against police brutality and racial inequality.
