What really explains the Asia Covid exception?

Why has Pacific Asia “performed” so well on Covid-19? No country in this region has had an epidemic anything like as damaging as those in Europe, North America or South America — from Japan to South Korea, Australia to Taiwan.

The answer is of more than just epidemiological interest. Respect for the response of governments in this region has become a matter of political folklore — people like Jeremy Hunt talk about it all the time — and is fundamentally changing the reputation of the “Asian model” among the liberal commentariat. Where before there was scepticism and a distrust of the activist, technology-enabled, centralised control state, it is now commonly seen as having been more effective than Western democracies.

Trump Approves Filing Retooled Texas-Style Election Challenges: Giuliani

Trump Approves Filing Retooled Texas-Style Election Challenges: Giuliani

President Donald Trump’s legal team is planning on filing retooled lawsuits, his lawyer said Saturday.

“We move immediately, seamlessly, to plan B, which is to bring lawsuits now in each one of the states. We had them ready. They’re just a version of the one that was brought in the Supreme Court. So last night, the president made the decision,” Rudy Giuliani said during an appearance on “War Room: Pandemic.”

Texas filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court against Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan, alleging the elections there were run contrary to the Constitution. The nation’s top court rejected the suit late Friday.

Canada’s ties to China’s military underscore the weird contradictions in its foreign policy

Canada’s ties to China’s military underscore the weird contradictions in its foreign policy

It’s been obvious for some time that there is something weird about the way Canada approaches its relationship with China — a disconnect brought into sharp relief this week by the news that Global Affairs and the Department of National Defence were not the same page when it came to military ties and training involving the People’s Liberation Army.

In some respects, the volcanic online political eruption which followed stories in The Globe and Mail and other media outlets, based on exclusive access to information documents, was predictable, as was the flurry of finger-pointing in the House of Commons on Thursday and Friday.

Diplomats were alarmed when Gen. Jonathan Vance, the country’s senior military commander, cancelled winter military exercises with the PLA in 2019, fretting that it might aggravate Beijing or make the lives of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor even worse.

There exists within our borders and institutions both private and public a bought and paid for China Class that has been busily undermining Canadian society and sovereignty for decades.

Gang of ‘violent ultra-left’ activists charged with forming ‘terrorist group’ to wage guerrilla warfare in France

French police have arrested a group of left-wing radicals who are suspected of making bombs and plotting to wage urban warfare, reports say. The leader has allegedly fought alongside the Kurds in Syria.

Seven people described as “ultra-left” were charged with forming a “terrorist criminal group” in order to carry out violent action, several French news outlets reported, citing official sources. Anti-terrorism prosecutors asked for pre-trial detention of six of the suspects who had appeared before a judge on Friday.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin later thanked police on social media for the operation against “these violent ultra-left activists,” without confirming any details.

Recovery from coronavirus pandemic must include ‘ambitious’ climate change plan: Trudeau

Countries rebuilding from the devastation left by the novel coronavirus pandemic must do so in a way that includes an “ambitious plan to take strong action against climate change,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Saturday.

“We will raise our emission reduction ambitions,” he said in a pre-recorded video. “And in partnership with provinces and territories, we as a country will strive for the upper end of a range of 32 to 40 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030.“

Uptick in homeless sheltering on TTC vehicles during pandemic

Homeless people are taking shelter inside the TTC.

A number of social media posts have documented a number of people sleeping on streetcar seats and making makeshift clotheslines out of the yellow plastic barriers the transit authority has put up to ensure social distancing in its vehicles.

Don’t blame Covid, “Free Trade” and the China Class are responsible for this.
