New polling shows that campaigners are undermining themselves

New YouGov polling should be a wake-up call to campaigners and politicians who have been playing politics with transgender rights. The headlines look dreadful. “There has been an erosion in support for transgender rights since 2018”, YouGov finds. But dig a little deeper and a different story emerges.

Conservative media are covering a story that transgender boosters want squashed, but even they feel pressured to call an impregnating male a “woman.”

On Saturday, the New York Post began: “A transgender woman behind bars at a New Jersey women’s prison impregnated two fellow inmates…[Demi] Minor, who is serving a 30-year sentence for manslaughter, is in a vulnerable unit in the new facility where she is the only woman, the spokesman said.”

News that a women’s prison in New Jersey has recently moved a transgender prisoner to a male facility after impregnating two females highlights a grim fact: that the movement we once knew as the Left has been colonised by an elite campaign to abolish material reality to the detriment of everyone else.

The University of Pennsylvania has nominated transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, who is biologically male and self-identifies as a woman, for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

What do we do with really difficult issues? In America we have them out. Because we have the right to do so — given to us by the Founders, and noisily exercised ever since. We discuss things, debate them and in the process hopefully solve some problems.

But today there are people everywhere trying to shut things down. People who want to pretend that their view is the only view it should be possible to hold.
