When it emerged as the guiding organisational principle of the British state, multiculturalism was sold, in the words of the hugely influential Parekh Report, as “perhaps the country’s biggest single national advantage”. The arrival of peoples from all over the world, bringing with them their unique perspectives, cuisines, religions, dresses, and cultures, would allow Britain to move on from “a narrow, English-dominated backward-looking definition of the nation” into something altogether more vibrant and exciting. Multiculturalism was to “widen a society’s range of options and increase its freedom of choice, for it brings different cultural traditions into a mutually beneficial dialogue and stimulates new ideas and experiences”. All those within society would thereby gain the opportunity to escape the narrow constraints of the culture they happened to be born into, instead becoming free to choose from the plethora of practices they would encounter every day, in doing so creating all sorts of dynamic new cultural mixes.

Ethnic minority candidate given police job despite failing interview

Senior officers in West Yorkshire Police intervened to ensure that an ethnic minority candidate who failed her interview was given the job, according to leaked documents seen by The Telegraph.

The female officer was initially rejected but eventually given a post after her case was taken up by the force’s chief officer team, which includes Chief Constable John Robins.

To get around her failure, West Yorkshire Police then scrapped interviews for officers transferring to the force, the documents show.

Long before he entered politics, Mark Carney was a full-throated supporter of social engineering via progressive policy. His platform, released Monday, has confirmed that his government will be no different in that regard than that of Justin Trudeau.

Carney’s plan shallowly pushes diversity both in form and in substance. Form-wise, his platform alleges itself to have been “reviewed through an equity lens using a GBA+ analysis,” meaning that for each commitment has been mulled over extensively by the privilege police.

Whether it’s Carney or Poilievre, the next PM must clean house in the federal public service

The costed Conservative election platform released this week largely eschews the hyperpolarizing language that had defined Pierre Poilievre until recently. The word “broken” shows up seven times in the 30-page document, but nowhere does the Tory platform apply that descriptor to Canada as a whole, as Mr. Poilievre had been endlessly doing until the federal election campaign began. Rather, the platform refers to “broken” Liberal promises and our “broken” immigration and health care systems. Hard to take issue with that.

US companies avoid hiring white men as part of diversity push

Hundreds of companies are deliberately shunning white men for jobs amid pressure to make workplaces more diverse, a survey has found.

A poll of 1,216 of American businesses with diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies found that one in 10 avoid hiring white men altogether and six in 10 human resource (HR) managers put diversity over qualifications when selecting candidates.

The study, conducted by website Resume Builder, also found that one in three HR managers believe that “reverse discrimination” occurs because of DEI policies. Three-quarters suspect that these policies were introduced “in part for appearances”.

The Funniest DEI Scam

DEI, even going back to when the approved acronym was DIE (yes, it was that not so long ago), has always been a scam.

By that, I don’t mean that it was a well-meaning policy intended to accomplish one goal that unintentionally spawned a scam, like Affirmative Action. Affirmative action was a misconceived solution to a genuine problem for which there was no good solution other than time.

Hacker claims responsibility for replacing NYU’s website with apparent test scores, racial epithet

A dark web user has claimed responsibility for briefly hacking New York University’s website Saturday, and replacing it with what appeared to be student test scores and an apparent racial epithet.

Instead of the usual images of college athletes and the Greenwich Village campus, the site instead featured a black background with green writing showing a message along with charts of what were purported to be SAT and ACT scores and GPAs for students in 2024, divided by race.

DEI Detribalization

The great objective of DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) was to tribalize our institutions, recruiting government and corporate employees into affinity groups based on their race, sex, sexuality and other factors, and then defining institutional goals around the “right” tribal mix through selective hiring and promotions.

The complete inversion of civil rights, from race-neutral to race-conscious, also transformed the intended purpose of government and all lesser institutions, from tribal neutrality to tribal partisanship, and it was impossible to achieve this without tribalizing government.

DEI and the ‘Bigness’ Problem

For decades, the political left—and even parts of the right—have insisted that “diversity is our strength” and has striven to convince Americans (and other Westerners) of the importance and beauty of “multiculturalism” and other related social phenomena. Today, with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and ideology under attack by most of the right and by the Trump Administration in particular, the left is howling that the nation’s principles themselves are being harmed and that we, as a people, are doing tremendous damage to the fabric of our society, sacrificing one of our most important characteristics on the altar of white privilege.
