Poland Claws Back Sovereignty from European Union

Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal has ruled that Polish law takes precedence over European Union law. The landmark ruling, which seeks to reassert national sovereignty over certain judicial matters, has called into question the legitimacy of the EU’s supranational legal and political order.

The power struggle has angered European federalists, who are seeking to turn the 27-member EU into a European superstate — a United States of Europe — and who do not take kindly to those who challenge their authority.

The EU, which Poland joined in 2004, has vowed to retaliate, including with potential financial penalties. Poland, which threw off the yoke of Soviet domination in 1989, replied that EU institutions are unlawfully overstepping their powers.

AUKUS Security Alliance Exposes EU’s Fecklessness

Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States have announced a new tripartite strategic alliance aimed at countering China’s growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region. The AUKUS defense agreement, under which Australia will acquire American-designed nuclear-powered submarines, is a welcome paradigm shift intended to enhance the projection of Western military power in the region.

AUKUS will supplement the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (also known as “The Quad”), a military partnership between Australia, India, Japan and the United States aimed at protecting freedom of navigation in the broader Asia-Pacific region. It will also strengthen Five Eyes, an intelligence-sharing alliance comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Hungarian PM Says EU Action On LGBT Rights Amounts To ‘Legal Hooliganism’

The legal action launched against Hungary by the European Commission over measures it said discriminated against LGBT people amounts to “legal hooliganism” and is “shameful,” Prime Minister Viktor Orban told state radio on July 16.

The commission — the European Union’s executive arm — opened legal action against Hungary on July 15 in relation to a new law that bans schools using materials deemed as promoting homosexuality, which many in the EU have slammed as an attack on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people by stigmatizing sexual minorities and stifling discourse on sexual orientation.

Hijab can be banned at work, rules EU court

The European Union’s top court backed employers banning Islamic headscarves and other religious attire — provided the curbs are vital to show neutrality in the workplace and don’t single out specific beliefs.

Such bans on garments that express certain political, philosophical or religious beliefs may be justified “by the employer’s need to present a neutral image toward customers or to prevent social disputes,” the EU Court of Justice said in a binding ruling on Thursday.

If you thought Canada’s domestic carbon tax was controversial, just wait for its new global equivalent now being negotiated behind closed doors, say Canadians who have been following its progress.

It’s not a secret. In fact the new charge got its own subheading in the recent federal budget.

The plan is to “make sure that regulations on a price on carbon pollution apply fairly between trading partners,” said the budget document. “This levels the playing field, ensures competitiveness, and protects our shared environment.”

It’s prompted, in part, by fear of a Rust Belt repeat. Then, industries hollowed out in rich countries as manufacturing chased cheaper labour. This time, the draw would be from countries with climate regulations to those without.

Horseshit. All it means is that even more money will be extorted from citizens. You can bet the China class will ensure the communist regime and their investments are exempted.

Iran’s Role in Yemen: US, EU Go Wobbly

More evidence is emerging, including a recent report by the United Nations, showing that that the Iranian regime is delivering sophisticated weapons to the Houthi militia group in Yemen. The Houthi group was designated as a terrorist organization by the previous US administration.

Where are the European Union and the Biden administration on this issue? The Biden administration has suspended some of the terrorism sanctions that the previous administration imposed on the Houthis, and the Biden administration is reviewing the Houthis file to possibly remove it from the terrorist list. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that he has “deep concern about the designation” of the Houthis as a terrorist organization. The EU and Biden administration also appear to be busy charting ways to return to the nuclear deal — which Iran never signed and which enables Iran ultimately to possess nuclear weapons — and lift sanctions against the theocratic regime.

Terrorism: A Warning from Iran to Europe

Last month the trial began in Belgium of Assadolah Assadi and three other Iranians accused of planning a bomb attack in Paris in 2018. Since 2015 Assadi had been the most senior officer of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security in Europe, at the time operating under diplomatic cover at the Iranian embassy in Vienna. He is the first Iranian government official to be tried by an EU country for terrorist offences, despite numerous attack attempts on EU soil ordered by Tehran.

State supported terrorism is not just an act in itself but also an instrument of national power and coercion. Together, these plots were a malevolent message and clear threat to Europe that unfortunately have been received and acted upon as intended in London, Berlin, Paris and Brussels.
