Senior ISIS leader killed in joint operation, US and Nigeria say

Nigeria and the United States say they have killed a senior Islamic State (IS) leader in a joint-operation.

Abu-Bilal al-Minuki was described by US President Donald Trump as the “second in command of ISIS globally” and “the most active terrorist in the world”.

IS has radically shifted in recent years, with around 90% of its attacks now taking place in sub-Saharan Africa. Its Nigeria-based branch is by far the most active.

BREAKING: US launches dozens of ‘precision airstrikes’ in Syria

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that it has conducted a series of airstrikes in central Syria, targeting ISIS camps and operatives as part of an ongoing effort to combat the terrorist organization.

According to a CENTCOM statement, the operation involved precision strikes on over 75 targets, utilizing multiple Air Force assets, including B-52 bombers, F-15 fighter jets, and A-10 aircraft.

“The strikes against the ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps were conducted as part of the ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade, and defeat ISIS, in order to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current situation to reconstitute in central Syria,” the statement read.

The FBI recently foiled an ISIS plot to assassinate George W. Bush

An alleged ISIS operative in the U.S. was plotting to kill George W. Bush, going so far as to travel to Dallas in November to take video around the former president’s home and recruiting help from a team of compatriots he hoped to smuggle into the country over the Mexican border, according to an FBI search-warrant application filed March 23 and unsealed this week in the Southern District of Ohio.

No biggie, but ISIS appears to be in Kabul

Earlier today we described how some British troops are describing the situation around the airport in Kabul as “the worst they’ve ever seen.” Well, they may need to expand their horizons a bit in terms of extremes. CNN is reporting that the Pentagon is working on an “alternate route” for Americans, allies and our helpers to get to the airport and it’s not just because of the massive crowds blocking the roads or the Taliban checkpoints turning people away. (Which we were assured wasn’t happening.) No, this is an entirely new wrinkle in the picture. There appears to be solid intelligence indicating that ISIS-K (which is just a rebranded ISIS offshoot that’s taken root in Afghanistan) is on the prowl and looking to perpetrate attacks in or around the airport. But that can’t be right, can it? Apparently, it can. (CNN)

UN Under-Secretary-General Says ISIS Threat ‘Is On The Rise Again’

The United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General on counter-terrorism confirms that the threat of the Islamic State, aka ISIS, “is on the rise again,” following a series of hostile actions and maneuvers by the jihadist group. ISIS and Joe Biden share a common enemy in Syria’s Bashar al Assad, a leader that Washington neoliberals are determined to remove from power. Will ISIS flourish again during the Biden regime as it did during the Obama administration when it effectively formed an Islamic Caliphate and beheaded multiple American hostages?
