Russia and Iran: The New Axis of Evil

Why Is the US Bankrolling Them?

Thanks to the Biden administration’s ill-judged obsession with reviving the flawed nuclear deal with Iran, the world can soon look forward to the creation of a new “axis of evil” between Russia and Iran.

In recent months, as negotiations over reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal’s official title, have continued in Vienna, Western negotiators have expressed concern about the negative support Iran is receiving from Russia in the talks.

Corporate America’s Hypocrisy

There’s something heartening about the way corporate America has rushed to cut ties with its operations in Russia. But the quick, sweeping moves offer a strange contrast to the way corporate America has rarely if ever uttered a critical word about the government of China despite its ongoing genocide of the Uyghurs, its human-rights abuses, its oppression of Hong Kong, its threats toward Taiwan, etc.

In fact, corporate America might be getting tough on the Russian government in hopes that people forget how much it has groveled to Beijing and obeyed the wishes of the equally autocratic, equally aggressive and abusive Chinese government.

Russia Is Screwed

“… Douglas London, a former CIA operations officer, writes in the Wall Street Journal that the outlook for recruiting Russians spies has rarely looked better: “Some of the CIA’s best agents have been volunteers who finally are pushed over the edge by a life-altering event and offer their services to an intelligence service. Tolkachev, Polyakov and Kuklinski were volunteers. Thanks to Mr. Putin’s deplorable behavior, I expect an increase in Russian volunteers who have toyed with the idea of doing something to better Russia’s future and might now be receptive to an encouraging nudge.” The FBI is sending Russian-language recruitment ads to cellphones in and around the Russian embassy that read: “If you have information that could help the FBI, please contact us.”

But it is in the long term — say, a generation from now — that Russia is screwed . . . really, really screwed.”

China Claims It Will Try to Fill Wheat Shortage Caused by Ukraine-Russia War

China’s Agriculture and Finance Ministries issued a joint notice on Friday urging farmers to maximize China’s spring plowing season of wheat and soybeans from early April in an effort to alleviate an expected global food supply shortage caused by Russia’s latest war with Ukraine, China’s state-run Global Times reported.

Ukraine Changes the Face of War Forever

Every fried Russian tank and dead soldier drives home the point that superpowers can no longer dominate simply because they have more troops and weapons.

Shocking Lessons U.S. Military Leaders Learned by Watching Putin’s Invasion

“I believe that at the heart of Russian military thinking is how Marshall Zhukov marched across Eastern Europe to Berlin,” a former high-level CIA official told Newsweek in an interview. Zhukov’s orders were to “line up the artillery and … flatten everything ahead of you,” he says. “‘Then send in the peasant Army to kill or rape anyone left alive.’ Subtle the Russians are not.”

Geoff Russ: Putin and Xi were always the real threat to democracy, not Trump-style populists

For the last two decades, we in the democratic world have sought to identify mad-dog, would-be dictators in the form of frothing demagogues. This methodology is doubtlessly informed by the memory of men like Adolf Hitler and Idi Amin, both rabble-rousing populists who shouted their way to the top, and committed sickening acts of butchery once there. It is very likely why every populist of the 2010s like Donald Trump, Rodrigo Duterte, and even Boris Johnson were condemned as dictatorial or fascistic.

The Russia/Bermuda Dark Money Subterfuge

If there is one thing you can say about the Russians it is that they stick to their proven playbook no matter what carnage they inflict on the innocents or how greatly they deceive the gullible.

During the height of the Cold War, they sought to stop America’s introduction of sophisticated weapons that would have blunted any planned invasion of Western Europe by the Red Army by infiltrating the “peace movement” with money and resources.

So it should come as no surprise that members of Congress continue to express deep concern that Putin’s Russia may be preventing the West’s energy independence by promoting through third parties, who may be unwilling dupes or active co-conspirators, “green” alternatives that are either impractical, aspirational, or an outright fiction.

Putin ‘deports Ukrainians to camps’: Russia is accused of genocide by putting refugees in ‘filtration’ centres and forcibly taking them to remote Siberian towns after confiscating their phones and documents

Vladimir Putin has been accused of deporting Ukrainians to ‘filtration’ centres before forcibly taking them to remote Siberian towns after confiscating their phones and documents.

‘Several thousand’ people have so-far been taken, Mariupol city council claimed, before being processed through ‘filtration camps’ and sent to ‘remote cities’ in Russia where they will be obliged to stay for years and work for free.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said before he chaired a meeting of the bloc’s foreign ministers in Brussels that ‘what’s happening in Mariupol is a massive war crime. Destroying everything, bombarding and killing everybody in an indiscriminate manner. This is something awful’.

This is propaganda and clickbait. DM is reliable on some topics, but they will lie and obfuscate on others.

Russia May Not Stop With Ukraine – NATO Looks To Its Weakest Link

It looks a lot like a return to the past. Founded in 1949 to defend against the Soviet threat, the NATO alliance is facing a return to mechanised warfare, a huge increase in defence spending, and potentially a new Iron Curtain falling across Europe. After struggling to find a new post-Cold War role, countering terrorism following the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States in 2001 and a humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, NATO is back defending against its original nemesis.
