Nebraska Becomes 17th State To Call For Article V Convention Of States

After considering it for the past year, the unicameral body approved the measure in a 32-11 vote, with six senators abstaining or absent. According to the resolution, the Nebraska legislature seeks to call a convention “limited to proposing amendments to the Constitution of the United States that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress.”

I say it will be an illegal executive order because as far as I know; the Congress has never voted on a power to allow a president to interfere in state law enforcement laws, rules, or regulations. And I don’t believe the Congress even has the power to do so. The federal government would have to ask the states for permission to interfere in state law enforcement in the form of an amendment to the US Constitution. The federal government was given only 18 enumerated powers in the Constitution. That means that for every power it seeks to give itself, if it is not enumerated (listed) in the Constitution, then they have to ask for permission from the states.

Republicans in at least 26 states have rolled back public health powers amid pandemic

A review by Kaiser Health News of hundreds of pieces of legislation found that, in all 50 states, legislators have proposed bills to curb public health powers since the pandemic began last year. While some governors vetoed bills that passed, at least 26 states pushed through laws that permanently weaken government authority to protect public health. More bills are pending in a handful of states whose legislatures are still in session.
