Did the Voice of America Cave to Iran’s ‘Lobby’?

Voice of America (VOA), a U.S government-funded public broadcaster, has expunged a video from its website after the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) announced on April 21 that it had “initiated legal efforts” after VOA “falsely defamed” the group as “lobbyists for the Islamic Republic.”

VOA, which “reflects the views of the U.S. government,” told FWI that it is reviewing an episode involving NIAC that originally aired on April 6. The broadcast “was removed from circulation on April 11 for further editorial review, following VOA and industry best practices. The review is in progress. VOA will provide an update when the review is complete,” wrote a VOA spokesperson to FWI.

Canadian doctors say birth tourism is on the rise. It could hurt the health care system.

Every few years, the phrase “birth tourism” seems to re-emerge in the news cycle. It refers to non-residents giving birth outside of their home country to gain citizenship and, occasionally, health care for their newborns. Birth tourism isn’t illegal in Canada, but it’s a fraught issue that tends to kick up discussions about who deserves access to the country’s health care system, especially in times of low bandwidth. Quebec students tear down, trample school ‘pride’ flag in protest of LGBT agenda

A crowd of students recently protesting the LGBT agenda in a Quebec school tore down and trampled a rainbow “pride” flag.

Last week, a group of teenagers from the Chêne-Bleu Secondary School in Pincourt, Quebec cheered as one of their fellow students tore down a flag representing the LGBT agenda, supporting the act of defiance by trampling the flag once it was no longer flying.

And…

Note – Google Translate … This event is far from isolated and tends to grow. According to TVA Nouvelles , students from two high schools in Estrie protested against the day against homophobia and transphobia. At the Phare International School, a petition was launched to remove LGBTQ+ symbols and young people tore down posters and flags. The CSSRS has confirmed that measures have been taken with regard to the offending students. At La Frontalière secondary school in Coaticook, students dressed in black instead of the colors of the rainbow. Sanctions have been imposed and the CSSHC has assured that awareness-raising actions will be carried out.

Two-Thirds of Canadian Marijuana Dealers Falling Behind in Tax Payments, Report Finds

The decline of Canada’s legal marijuana trade has led to two-thirds of marijuana dealers falling behind in their tax payments, according to a federal report.

“The total amount of unpaid cannabis excise duties has continuously been rising since legalization,” said a report by the Competition Bureau released May 26.

Was the size of the market over-estimated or is it a question of competition with the “illegal’ market? Or Both?

Toddler in North Korea ‘sentenced to life in prison after parents caught with Bible’

A toddler was sentenced to life imprisonment in North Korea after the child’s family was found in possession of a Bible, according to a new report by the US State Department.

“One case involved the 2009 arrest of a family based on their religious practices and possession of a Bible.

NDP Introduces Non-Binding Meaningless Motion To Have Johnston Step Aside As Special Rapporteur … blah blah bullshit

David Johnston – China Class Crony

The NDP is introducing an opposition day motion calling on David Johnston to step down as the government’s special rapporteur on foreign interference — only days after one of its MPs was told by CSIS she has been targeted by the Chinese government.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said that while he has been careful not to attack the former governor general or his reputation, Johnston’s background has led to doubts about his work as the special rapporteur.

… The motion — which would be nonbinding if passed — is being introduced after NDP MP Jenny Kwan said she was briefed Friday by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS).

Gotta protect that China class.
