BARBER: Canada’s economic warning from across ‘The Pond’

‘As the UK spirals under debt, high taxes, and net-zero delusions, Canada risks the same fate under Carney’s leadership — unless it changes course on spending, energy, and trade.’

The UK finds itself in serious economic trouble. The cost of its debt is approaching unmanageable levels. It faces high taxes after recent increases, a shrinking economy, declining job growth, and rising unemployment. The UK’s Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) reports that debt is predicted to reach 270% of GDP by 2070 (“Fiscal Risks and Sustainability Report — July 2025”.) The EU’s Stability and Growth Pact recommends a debt-to-GDP ratio of 60%. The UK’s current ratio is around 100%, with annual interest payments projected at £105.2 billion.

Why Liberals Love to be Hated

A sick dysfunctional mindset.

It may surprise some how eagerly the liberals who claim to believe in gay rights, make abortion their sacrament and worship at the altar of secularism make common cause with the Islamic enemies of all that they supposedly believe in. But it really shouldn’t because they don’t believe it.

From the Hitler-Stalin pact to the white liberal worship of the Black Panthers, it’s long since been clear that what they claim to want is very different from what they really, really want.

UK: Police officers who actively participate in Pride marches are breaking the law

Police joining Pride protests was always a step too far

Police officers who actively participate in Pride marches are breaking the law, according to a landmark judgment in the High Court. In a decision that’s likely to have a profound effect on how chief constables behave in future, Mr Justice Linden today ruled that the sight of uniformed officers marching, displaying the Progress flag and turning up in official vehicles painted in Pride colours breaches their duty of impartiality.

The defendant in the case was Vanessa Jardine, chief constable of Northumbria Police, who joined the Newcastle Pride in the City 2024 march with her officers in July last year. The judge said that Jardine’s decision to participate was “irrational”, pointing out that every police officer swears an oath to behave with “integrity, diligence and impartiality”.

Canada’s income gap reaches record high, Statistics Canada finds

Statistics Canada says the income gap between the country’s highest and lowest income households reached a record high in the first quarter of 2025.

The agency says the difference in the share of disposable income between households in the top 40 per cent of the income distribution and the bottom 40 per cent grew to 49 percentage points in the first three months of the year.

Statistics Canada says the measure has increased each year following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notes on the passing scene — Taliban, Canada, and John Kerry admitting Trump was right all along

It’s a weird world out there and here are some semi-random thoughts:

A 45-year-old Afghan man allegedly attempted to marry a 6-year-old girl in Helmand Province.

Amu.tv reported that the youngster had allegedly been sold by her father to a man who already has two wives, but the kind-hearted Taliban stepped in and arrested both men involved. (Yes, “kind-hearted” was sarcastic.) The Taliban brought no charges against the men but are making the prospective groom wait until the girl is 9 before taking her home, according to local media.

Poets, DJs and DEI officers? Britain’s ‘skilled’ visa list is a joke

If we thought the UK’s immigration system couldn’t get any more farcical, then the Labour government has managed to prove us wrong once again.

The Telegraph has revealed that diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) ‘experts’ can enter the UK on a ‘skilled worker’ visa. These visas allow holders to remain in the UK for up to five years. They are supposed to help British firms plug critical skills shortages in the labour market that would otherwise go unfilled. In practice, however, it seems that just about any job you can imagine can qualify for a visa.

Michael A. Sachs: Why I’m moving my family to the United States

A

After 30 years as a proud Canadian citizen, a die-hard Canucks fan and someone who has deeply loved this country, I’ve made the hardest decision of my life: I have moved my family of four to the United States.

I want to be clear that this decision wasn’t made lightly and I never imagined leaving our community, our family and our friends. And yet, here we are. The decision comes after years of watching the country I love erode into something unrecognizable.

A Generation So Lonely, It Fell in Love With Furniture

From soulmates to simulated love with a smoothie maker.

A new game lets you romance your refrigerator.

Not exactly a sentence you’d expect to write in 2025. Then again, maybe it is. Maybe this is exactly where we were always heading. Date Everything arrived this summer like a fever dream made manifest. Players don mysterious “Dateviator” glasses. Suddenly, household objects transform into potential lovers. Your lamp becomes a narcissistic influencer. Your couch develops commitment issues. Your washing machine exudes pure sex appeal. The premise sounds bonkers. It is, but it’s also prophetic.

Report warns of growing Muslim Brotherhood influence in Canada, calls for terrorist designation

A new report by the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP) warns that Canada faces an escalating national security threat from Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated organizations that have embedded themselves across civil society, politics, academia, and finance.

The report urges the federal government to immediately designate the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, citing a broad and troubling infiltration that could expose Canada to future terror attacks.

John Robson: Carney’s conflict-of-interest falsehoods part of a long history of mistruths

He lied. Right in our faces. A brazen, self-serving, manipulative, obvious lie that was bound to get found out. Have we lost the capacity to care?

No, I’m not talking about U.S. President Donald Trump. I’m speaking of Prime Minister Mark Carney. When accused during the election campaign of a conflict of interest over his extensive holdings, he declared indignantly: “I own nothing but cash and personal real estate.” But he lied.

Britain can’t afford to let migrants live on benefits

When the history of the next election comes to be written, we may end up asking: was the turning point for its outcome the moment that Keir Starmer’s government backtracked on its welfare reforms in the face of a backbench revolt? The fiasco, which eliminated the government’s hopes of saving £5 billion a year, has made any welfare reform during the current Parliament impossible.

The cost of that is becoming more evident by the day. Figures revealed this morning show that there are currently 3.6 million people receiving Universal Credit who are under no obligation whatsoever to look for work. They have been effectively written off as unemployable and will be in receipt of benefits for the remainder of their working-age lives. That is nearly half the total of 7.9 million people on Universal Credit.
