The Liberal Party is not the only party that needs a new leader

While on the topic of the Liberal leadership race, we should also talk about another party that’s in dire straits and desperately needs a new leader: the NDP.

When Jagmeet Singh won the leadership in late 2017, he was a breath of fresh air for the frumpy NDP, which had long been associated with socks-with-sandals lefties and equally unfashionable table-pounding union leaders. He was young, diverse, social-media savvy and from outside the Ottawa bubble. As a fashion plate who enjoys the finer things in life, he cut a dash through Ontario provincial politics and the Toronto cultural scene.

But like many first-round draft picks, he flopped in the majors.

City Hall’s children’s services has own racist anti-racism group – no whites allowed

The City of Toronto’s children’s services division has its own dedicated anti-racism group, and whites and other ethnicities are banned from meetings, The Toronto Sun has learned.

The group, called the CABR (Confronting anti-Black racism) (Calling All Black Racists) strategic advisory circle, differs from City Hall’s dedicated CABR unit, made up of a handful of staff at Toronto’s social development division. (There is a third body, the CABR advisory committee, which meets every few months and reports to council.)

Hamas says it will postpone hostage release, blaming Israel

A spokesperson for the armed wing of Hamas says the group is postponing the next scheduled release of Israeli hostages, blaming what he said were Israeli violations of the ceasefire deal.

Three hostages held in Gaza are due to be freed on Saturday in exchange for more Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.

Abu Obeida said the releases would not go ahead until Israel complied with its obligations. He said violations included delaying the return of displaced Palestinians to the north, firing on people, and failing to allow into Gaza humanitarian aid “in all its agreed-upon forms”.

Canadian aid workers warn ‘catastrophic’ USAID halt puts Ottawa’s grift in limbo

Canada’s aid sector is bracing for cataclysmic suffering worldwide, and is asking Ottawa to help fill gaps as Washington winds down the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Numerous Canadian projects are in limbo as the world’s largest aid funder freezes funding to multilateral programs, and it’s unclear what will happen to millions of dollars Ottawa had sent to USAID for programming.

Why more young men in Germany are turning to the ̷f̷a̷r̷ right … mass immigration from incompatible cultures

“What my parents taught me is that they used to live in peace and calm, without having to have any fear in their own country,” says 19-year-old Nick. “I would like to live in a country where I don’t have to be afraid.”

I meet him in a small bar on a street corner in the ex-mining town of Freiberg, Saxony – where he is playing darts.

It’s a cold, foggy night in February with just over two weeks to go until Germany’s national election.

Nick and his friend Dominic, who is 30, are backers or sympathetic to Alternative für Deutschland – a party that has been consistently polling second in Germany for more than a year and a half, as the far right here and elsewhere in Europe attracts an increasing number of young people, particularly men, into its orbit.

It’s not far right when it’s near majority status Mr. BBC commie.

Pakistani paedophile escaped deportation because it would ‘harm his children’

A Pakistani father who was jailed for child sex offences escaped deportation because it would be “unduly harsh” on his children.

The unnamed father of two toddlers, who was granted anonymity by an immigration court, had been banned from living with his children since he was convicted of trying to get three “barely pubescent” girls to engage in sex and jailed for 18 months.

However, a lower tribunal judge ruled that he should not be deported back to Pakistan as it would be “unduly harsh for the children to be without their father”.

That guy the LPC dumped and put out to pasture in France says Trump’s sovereignty threats could violate international law

Canada’s ambassador to France says he’s against U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to take over Greenland, saying “in order to respect international law, you don’t threaten your neighbours by invasion.”

Stéphane Dion, who is also the special envoy to Europe and the European Union, says threatening a country’s sovereignty is not “normal”. Trump is also continuing to push for Canada to become America’s 51st state.

“You know that according to international law it’s not only to invade a neighbour that’s against international law in the charter of the UN, it is to threaten,” he said. “So we’re against that.”

Trump says US is ‘committed to buying and owning Gaza’

President Donald Trump has said he is “committed to buying and owning” the Gaza Strip and relocating the two million Palestinians living there, despite global condemnation of the plan he unveiled last week.

He told reporters that he might allow Middle East countries to be involved in rebuilding parts of the territory and that he would make sure the Palestinian refugees would “live beautifully”.

Both the Palestinian Authority and the armed group Hamas, whose 16-month war with Israel has caused widespread devastation in Gaza, reiterated that Palestinian land was “not for sale”.

Trump says Canada joining US ‘would be greatest thing they could ever do’

President Trump on Sunday argued that if Canada were to join the United States, it would be the greatest thing the neighbors to the north could do.

“I love the people of Canada. We have a great relationship, but if they became our 51st state, it would be the greatest thing they could ever do,” Trump told reporters. “And think of how beautiful that country would be without that artificial line running right through it. Somebody drew it many years ago with a ruler, just a line.”

Premiers Push Ottawa to Immediately Name ‘Fentanyl Czar’

The premiers of Ontario and Alberta are urging Ottawa to swiftly appoint a “fentanyl czar,” a key condition of the 30-day tariff reprieve granted by the United States.

“Americans and the Trump administration are saying, secure our border. My question again to Prime Minister Trudeau, where is the fentanyl czar?” Ontario Premier Doug Ford said during a Feb. 8 press conference in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Denmark’s ‘zero refugee’ policy drives down asylum admissions to record low

Denmark’s strict immigration policies resulted in the granting of 860 asylum requests last year, the lowest number bar 2020, when Covid-19 lockdowns halted new arrivals.

Denmark’s immigration approach has been influenced by Right-wing parties for more than 20 years, with Mette Frederiksen, the prime minister and leader of the centre-Left Social Democrats, pursuing a “zero refugee” policy since coming to power in 2019.

The country of around six million people received 2,300 asylum requests last year.
