Douglas Todd: Eight reasons politicians don’t really want house prices to fall

Opinion: Most politicians believe, apparently mistakenly, voters will punish them if house prices fell. Their self-interests could also be getting in the way.

Most Canadians, according to polls, are willing to see house prices to drop so people squeezed out of ownership, particularly young adults, can obtain some shelter security.

But, despite politicians’ endless rhetoric about fighting for “affordable” housing, they don’t really want home values to drop. There are several reasons why this is the case.

Drunk? High? Or Both? Day after explosive allegation, Trudeau says he’s not trying to ‘provoke’ India

A day after accusing the Indian government of playing a role in the brazen shooting of a Canadian Sikh leader, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he isn’t trying to “provoke” the South Asian country.

“We are not looking to provoke or escalate. We are simply laying out the facts as we understand them,” Trudeau told reporters Tuesday, before a cabinet meeting.

What an idiot.

Recent violence on Toronto transit ‘indicative of something larger’: TTC

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) says the rash of recent violent incidents that erupted on its network over the weekend points to a bigger problem that requires an “all hands-on-deck” approach.

“These incidents that are happening on the TTC are indicative of something larger,” TTC spokesperson, Stuart Green, told CP24 Live at Noon on Monday. “There were a number of violent incidents right across this city and throughout the GTA this weekend, and we saw at least two on the TTC. So, all of these are of great concern.”

We’ve got a ways to go before we become as bad as the typical Democrat run progressive paradise city but city hall is working on it rest assured.

John Ivison: Trudeau tries pinning the cost-of-living blame on anyone but himself

I hate this asshole.

To err is human; to blame someone else is politics.

The House of Commons is back and the prime minister had barely cleared his throat before he turned the Opposition leader’s questions on housing and grocery affordability into a response about the Conservative party’s plan to “restrict access to abortion, deny the impact of climate change and put more assault weapons on our streets.”

Politicians looking to pass the buck have always kept the public alarmed by menacing it with an endless series of imaginary hobgoblins, as American journalist H.L. Mencken once put it.

Minister says Canada’s largest grocery chains have agreed to ‘work’ on stabilizing food prices

The heads of Canada’s five largest grocery chains have “agreed to work with” the federal government to stabilize food prices, Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Monday.

Champagne and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland met with the heads of Loblaw, Sobeys, Metro, Costco and Walmart in Ottawa on Monday. Freeland stayed only for the first few minutes of the two-hour meeting.

“As you would expect, those are difficult discussions but much-needed discussions at a time that Canadians are feeling the high prices of groceries,” Champagne said after the meeting.

WARMINGTON: Battle lines drawn as parents protest gender issues in schools

When it comes to the issue of gender identity being taught in schools, the “battle” lines have been drawn and war has been declared.

Organized labour has mustered a counter-protest of the Million Person March for Children which is set for Wednesday in Toronto, Ottawa and other cities. That has set some people off, especially Kamel El-Cheikh, the organizer of the part of the protest in Ottawa which is being called the Ottawa Hands off Our Kids rally.

How Ukrainian shock attacks could mark the beginning of the end of Russia’s grip on Crimea

Twice last week, Crimea’s night skies lit up with the fiery destruction of valuable Russian military equipment.

In the early hours of Wednesday, cruise missiles struck the Sevmorzavod shipyard, home to Russia’s Black Sea fleet. Clips of the aftermath showed the skies over Sevastopol illuminated by a burning landing ship and attack submarine.

The following morning at Yevpatoriya, in the west of the Russian-occupied peninsula, footage circulated on social media showed another fireball. This time the target was said to be one of Russia’s sophisticated S-400 Triumf air defence batteries.

Suspected terrorist and illegal alien India allegedly killed used Canada as a doormat like Trudeau does

What we know about the man India allegedly killed on Canadian soil

… He came to Canada in 1997, Global reported, and claimed refugee status, having used a false passport to enter the country.

His refugee claim was rejected, but 11 days after that, he married a woman who sponsored him for immigration. That, too, was rejected, although Nijjar called himself a Canadian citizen, and Trudeau referred to him as such in the House of Commons on Monday.

Not a Canadian citizen, just a suspected terrorist and murderer on the run who used Canada as a doormat just like Trudeau does.

Many other nations have assassinated troublesome types abroad. Some Canada considers allies.

Few complain that Israel offed the Munich terrorists wherever they found them.

Trudeau’s selective faux outrage is disingenuous given Canada chose sides in this conflict and offered a safe haven to Khalistani separatists.

Trudeau hoped this announcement would deflect from his horrid domestic predicament and it will but only to illustrate what a sorry hypocrite he is for having sought to wrap himself in the flag in a desperate attempt to boost his flatlining popularity and divert attention from the LPC’s corrupt links with Communist China.

Given the animosity between China and India it is reasonable to wonder if Trudeau isn’t acting on Xi Jinping’s intruction or on his own initiative to embarrass India and score Brownie points with his ChiCom friends.

After all it is alleged the CSIS China leaks were due to the Trudeau government’s efforts to restore “normal relations” with Communist China despite their having taken two Canadian citizens hostage and resolute commitment to undermine Canadian sovereignty.

When it comes to Trudeau no motive is too low to be ruled out.

Barber, Lich Trial: Quebec Officer Says Convoy Protesters Refused to Leave as Police Moved In

OTTAWA—Protesters at the Freedom Convoy demonstrations in Ottawa pushed back against police officers attempting to remove them and refused to leave, according to the testimony of a Quebec police officer at the trial of protest organizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber.

“The reason that we were going slowly is because it was a heavy presence of demonstrators that prevented us from moving forward,” Captain Etienne Martel with Sûreté du Québec testified in court on Sept. 18.

Guards with assault rifles hired to protect Philly cheesesteak joint

This should squash any beefs.

A Philadelphia cheesesteak restaurant has reopened for business — now with assault rifle-carrying guards because of violent crime plaguing the City of Brotherly Love.

A video from the reopening of Jim’s West Steaks & Hoagies in West Philadelphia on Sunday shows customers lining up to order sandwiches under the watchful eye of heavily armed security guards.

Doug Ford announces $42M to help house refugees, at-risk people

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the province is adding $42 million in funding to a portable housing benefit, with more than half going to the city of Toronto, which is struggling to accommodate a rise in refugee and asylum claimants.

The premier says the money through the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit will help about 4,000 new households, going toward moving more people into housing and freeing up shelter space.

Ottawa urges U.S. appeals court to reverse order threatening to shut down Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline

Ottawa is urging a U.S. appeals court to reverse a Wisconsin judge’s order that threatens to shut down the Line 5 cross-border pipeline by June 2026.

Forcing a shutdown would violate Canada’s treaty rights, government lawyers argue in an amicus brief filed today with the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

A Wisconsin court ruling in June gave Calgary-based Enbridge Inc. an ultimatum: reroute the pipeline around an Indigenous reserve within three years or shut it down.
