What Would Failure Look Like?

The New Yorker sees a homelessness program rife with drugs and crime as hugely successful.

Last week’s New Yorker featured a 15,000–word exploration of what happens when government gives housing to the homeless. The article profiled a Brooklyn supportive-housing program that provides formerly homeless people with private apartments run in accordance with Housing First principles. Building residents face no behavioral expectations.

Author Jennifer Egan portrays a chaotic scene, overrun with addiction, premature mortality, and crime. Nonetheless, Egan (a novelist by trade) argues that this program succeeds in offering residents “a new lease on life” and should be replicated everywhere homelessness is found. Readers may be reminded of the third chapter of Michael Shellenberger’s book San Fransicko: “The Experiment Was a Success but the Patients Died.”

The Latest Union Strike Might Turn Workers Red – Climate policies are to blame for the UAW strike.

The Biden administration recently found itself between a rock and a hard place. This time, though, it’s not because of the Biden family’s illicit business dealings or the president’s rapidly deteriorating mental capacities. Rather, the problem is the competing goals of the president’s allies: the globalist climate mob and the reliably left-leaning workers unions.

EV’s mean fewer workers earning less money.

YouTube suspends Russell Brand from advert income

YouTube has suspended Russell Brand’s channels from making money from adverts for “violating” its “creator responsibility policy”.

The video platform said it was taking action “to protect” its users.

Meanwhile, the BBC said it had removed some programmes featuring the comedian and actor from its streaming services.

It comes after he was accused of rape and sexual assaults between 2006 and 2013. He denies the claims, saying his relationships were “always consensual”.

I am not a fan but at this point he is innocent until proven guilty and YouTube is simply using this situation to not pay him.

Trudeau says other countries are quietly backing Canada in fight over Online News Act

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says other countries are quietly taking Canada’s side as giant tech companies push back against his government’s Online News Act.

C-18, which passed the House of Commons in June, requires that tech giants Google and Meta pay media outlets for news content they share or otherwise repurpose on their platforms.

Meta already has pulled news and content from Canadian publishers and broadcasters from its platform in Canada in response to the law. Google has threatened to do the same.

Pierre Poilievre is the man who could beat Trudeau

OTTAWA, Ont. — Canada’s Liberals can no longer deny it. Pierre Poilievre, the fiery Conservative leader set on burning Justin Trudeau’s signature achievements to the ground, is the favorite to win the country’s next election.

Poilievre’s party has vaulted ahead in the polls by harnessing post-pandemic anxiety — high inflation, rising interest rates, and the runaway cost of home ownership in Canada. He fills hotel ballrooms and banquet halls with rowdy crowds, even during a summer season when most voters tend to tune out touring politicians.

Ukraine hits back at NYT report it accidentally bombed its own market

Ukraine on Tuesday pushed back against a New York Times investigation, which said evidence suggested that Kyiv accidentally bombed a local market in its own town of Kostiantynivka killing 15 people.

According to the New York Times‘ report published Monday, a combination of witnesses, findings in Kostyantynivka and open-source investigation of video footage and local anonymous Telegram channels indicated the September 6 attack was actually a tragic accident, caused by a Ukrainian BUK missile system firing toward Russian forces from the Ukrainian-controlled nearby town of Druzhkivka.

Girl found dead in B.C. park had ‘blunt force’ injuries, sexual assault expert says

Ibrahim Ali one of Trudeau’s Syrian refugees.

A sexual assault expert testifying at the British Columbia Supreme Court trial of a man accused of killing a 13-year-old girl six years ago says she believes the girl’s injuries were “highly indicative of blunt force trauma.”

Dr. Tracy Pickett, a doctor specializing in emergency and clinical forensic medicine, says it is unlikely those injuries, to the girl’s vagina, came from a small object such as a tampon, and is more consistent with penial penetration.

Ibrahim Ali has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of the teen, whose body was found in Burnaby’s Central Park early on July 19, 2017, just hours after her mother reported her missing.

Poll shows Biden, 80, losing to Trump, Nikki Haley AND Tim Scott – as party members say his ‘death is imminent’

The majority of American voters are still highly concerned about Joe Biden’s age and mental fitness, a new poll reveals.

Additionally, the Harvard HarrisX Poll released this week shows that three GOP candidates would beat the president in a hypothetical general election – former President Donald Trump, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

While most polls, including the most recent, show Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in second place to Trump, he surprisingly does not beat out Biden in a head-to-head matchup.

There is only so much Ottawa can do about Canada’s housing crisis

Luxury accommodation

There is a simple solution to the housing crisis: Voters in municipalities across Canada could elect mayors and councils dedicated to stripping away zoning restrictions, while simplifying and lowering the costs of permissions and permits.

Unfortunately, voters in municipal elections tend to be homeowners who benefit from escalating prices and who want to preserve their neighbourhoods. Councils reflect their will.
