Trudeau the inveterate liar once spoke of a new era of transparent government. We’re still waiting.

Shortly before Parliament adjourned for the summer last week, the House of Commons ethics committee tabled the findings from its study of the federal government’s access to information system — the program through which citizens and journalists can (in theory) obtain information in the government’s possession.

The 118-page report makes 38 recommendations aimed at fixing what is widely considered a broken system. But in a dissenting opinion, the Liberal members of the committee quibbled with nine of those calls and even questioned the sincerity of the committee’s Conservative members.

U.K. defence secretary urges Canada to hit NATO military spending target

Britain’s defence secretary delivered a polite but pointed reminder Thursday of NATO’s expectations of its member states — including Canada — when it comes to defence spending.

And Ben Wallace did it in front of his Canadian counterpart, Defence Minister Anita Anand.

The two met in London as part of Anand’s visit to the United Kingdom this week ahead of the July 11-12 NATO leaders’ summit in Vilnius — where the issue of defence investments is expected to be a major topic of discussion.

President Biden on Thursday wandered off the set of a live television interview on MSNBC before the show even cut to a commercial break.

With the cameras still rolling, Biden got out of his chair, shook hands with host Nicolle Wallace and awkwardly walked away after she thanked the 80-year-old president for granting her a rare interview.

International Retailers Such As Aldi And Lidl Might Not Enter Canada Because Of Local “Price-Fixing And Manipulative” Grocers

The Competition Bureau’s call for increased competition in the Canadian grocery sector is stating the obvious. Canada is home to numerous oligopolies that dominate various industries, with only a few companies holding significant market share. In the grocery sector specifically, five major players control nearly 80 percent of the food retail market. While some oligopolies function more effectively than others, their success depends on the companies behaving ethically, which is precisely the issue plaguing the grocery sector in Canada.

Joe Oliver: Will the Liberals adopt an unhinged Senate bill discouraging fossil fuel investment?

Bill would undermine free markets, the energy sector and the Canadian economy

Sir John A. Macdonald called the Senate “a place of sober second thought,” which may have reflected his appreciation for at least occasional sobriety. But Bill S-243, the “Climate-Aligned Finance Act,” is the antithesis of thoughtful reconsideration. Its declared purpose is to regulate investment practices so as to reduce the risks both that financial institutions pose to the climate and that climate change poses to financial institutions. In fact, it would undermine free markets, with potentially debilitating consequences for financial institutions, the energy sector and the Canadian economy in general.

EV’s are the Wunderwaffe of the Green-Scam: Volkswagen slashes electric vehicle production due to ‘strong customer reluctance’

German car maker to pause work at major factory and lay off 300 staff

Volkswagen is to cut electric car production at one of its biggest factories after “strong customer reluctance” led to far lower sales than expected.

The business is pausing work on electric models for six weeks at its plant in Emden, northwest Germany, and will lay off 300 of the 1,500 workers involved in making them.

The company blamed lower subsidies for buyers of the cars across Europe and higher inflation for a drop in consumer interest.

So VW is doing a Stellantis and halting construction of a manufacturing plant and laying off staff because they can’t sell EV’s without consumers being offered significant bribes of their own money.

Bribe people to buy a second rate product. That sounds like the sort of genius level  business model Justin would buy into.

France riots: Macron faces calls to declare state of emergency

Protests over the shooting of 17-year-old Nahel M have spilled into the capital’s affluent areas

President Macron has summoned key ministers to a crisis meeting amid calls for him to declare a state of emergency after a third night of rioting across France.

With the violence intensifying despite the deployment of 40,000 officers including elite units across the country, Macron is under growing pressure to suspend some civil rights in an effort to restore order.

He is to chair the French equivalent of a Cobra meeting — the second in two days — as he struggles for a coherent response to what has spiralled into a national crisis and a challenge to his authority.

France riots: Macron to hold crisis meeting as 667 arrested and violence spreads

Emmanuel Macron is to head another crisis meeting of ministers as the French government struggles to contain an escalation of unrest that has spread from housing estates across the country to the centre of major cities after the police shooting of a teenager earlier this week.

A total of 667 people were arrested across France into the early hours of Friday morning, officials said, as violence continued into a third night of riots triggered by the deadly police shooting of a 17-year-old of Algerian and Moroccan descent during a traffic stop.
