Behar Claims GOP Wants to Ban Holocaust from History Classes

ABC’s The View doesn’t have a stellar record when it comes to being respectful of the Holocaust. So, of course, it wasn’t a surprise when co-host Joy Behar abused International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Friday to suggest Republicans wanted to ban teaching educating kids about it in history classes and tried to tie it to opposition to Critical Race Theory.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s Prosecutors Ask Judge to Tighten Bail Conditions

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan said on Friday that the disgraced cryptocurrency executive Sam Bankman-Fried had tried to contact a potential witness in his criminal case, and they asked a judge to impose new bail conditions limiting his ability to communicate with former colleagues.

In a court filing, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York said Mr. Bankman-Fried sent messages over email and the encrypted messaging app Signal this month to the general counsel of the U.S. arm of FTX, the cryptocurrency exchange he founded. Mr. Bankman-Fried, 30, has been charged with fraud, money laundering and campaign finance violations linked to the implosion of FTX last year.

Is There Something We Need to Know? The WHO Updates Its List of Meds to Stockpile for a Nuclear Emergency

On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) released an update to the list of medicines that should be stockpiled in case of what it called “radiological and nuclear emergencies.” According to the report, almost half of the organization’s member nations were unequipped for such an emergency, and the COVID-19 pandemic and other crises have highlighted the need to ensure that people have access to necessary medications and supplies. The document supersedes a 2007 report and lists the medications that should be stockpiled and how to store and manage them.

Germany says it is not a warring party in Ukraine

Germany’s government on Friday accused Russia of pouncing on a statement by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to twist it to the Kremlin’s own ends and reiterated that neither Germany nor NATO were parties to the war in Ukraine.

Baerbock had called for Western unity during a meeting of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on Tuesday, saying, in English: “We are fighting a war against Russia, not against each other.”

NATO and Germany have emphasized that their support for Ukraine as it defends itself against Russia’s unprovoked invasion does not constitute participation in the war.

Capitol rioter who assaulted Brian Sicknick gets near-seven year sentence

A man who admitted using chemical spray to assault Brian Sicknick on January 6, a day before the Capitol police officer died, was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison in a Washington court on Friday.

Julian Khater, 33, from Pennsylvania, was also fined $10,000.

The judge, Thomas F Hogan, told Khater: “There are officers who lost their lives, there’s officers who committed suicide after this, there’s officers who can’t go back to work. Your actions … are inexcusable.”

BlackRock, Ukraine, and the Davos Gang

Aptly named Laurence D. Fink of Blackrock

In general, the war in Ukraine is being approached by Western public opinion from a humanitarian perspective that sympathizes with the enormous suffering of the Ukrainian people while at the same time morally denouncing the aggressor: Putin. All this, though undoubtedly a just analysis that gives an accurate account of the culprits and victims, nevertheless brings with it at least two problems.

Firstly, the humanitarian focus gets in the way of hard geopolitical analysis, which is more important than the former both because of what is at stake and because statecraft, as opposed to humane sympathy, acts as the driving force on the global chessboard. But not only does a purely humanitarian focus conceal such important considerations; worst still, those who dare to engage in unsentimental geopolitical discourse outside of military and intelligence circles are automatically condemned by the media and the political class, and then ostracized. Geopolitics, it seems, is a mode of analysis not sanctioned by the court of political correctness.

The new push for more babies: How tech elites think it will save the planet

Soon after China reported that it saw more deaths than births last year, its first population dip in 60 years, Elon Musk, father of 10, again sounded the “population collapse” alarm, tweeting that a decline in birth rates globally heralds an “existential problem to humanity, not overpopulation!”

Electrification Is Based on Manufactured Necessity

Civilization cannot stand unless civilized people stand up to hysterics.

It’s always a sound idea to start at the beginning rather than in the middle — so let’s do that.

The whole push for “electrification” is based on a manufactured “necessity” — that of preventing what is styled “climate change.” The assertion itself is so vague as to be without substantive meaning. That’s a good beginning. How are we supposed to have any kind of intelligent debate when the baseline of the debate is so shiftily amorphous? It is certainly not — as the saying has it — “scientific.” That latter being defined by specificity — in order that the specifics can be examined, challenged, proved — or not.

Van Jones at CNN: The police who killed Tyre Nichols were Black. But they might still have been driven by racism

Because of course.

One of the sad facts about anti-Black racism is that Black people ourselves are not immune to its pernicious effects. Society’s message that Black people are inferior, unworthy and dangerous is pervasive. Over many decades, numerous experiments have shown that these ideas can infiltrate Black minds as well as White. Self-hatred is a real thing.

That’s why a Black store owner might regard customers of his same race with suspicion, while treating his White patrons with deference. Black people can harbor anti-Black sentiments and can act on those feelings in harmful ways.

Black cops are often socialized in police departments that view certain neighborhoods as war zones. In those departments, few officers get disciplined for dishing out “street justice” in certain precincts — often populated by Black, brown or low-income people — where there is a tacit understanding that the “rulebook” simply doesn’t apply.

Cops of all colors, including Black police officers, internalize those messages — and sometimes act on them. In fact, in Black neighborhoods, the phenomenon of brutal Black cops singling out young Black men for abuse is nothing new.

Biden accused of hypocrisy as his administration seeks death penalty for New York terrorist

President Joe Biden has been accused of hypocrisy after his administration pushed for the death penalty in the case of a terrorist convicted on Thursday in New York.

Is Canada’s military ready for the challenges ahead? ‘No,’ says defence chief

Canada’s armed forces are ready for emergency pronoun deployment under battlefield conditions.

Canada’s military is not ready for the challenges the future holds as the global security situation continues “deteriorating,” warned Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Wayne Eyre.

In an interview with The West Block‘s Mercedes Stephenson airing Sunday, Eyre spoke about the efforts the military is making to support Ukraine in its defence against the Russian invasion, but also about the difficulties the Canadian Forces are facing in preparing for the demands of a more unstable world.

And it’s all because of you right wing racists.

Ford calls police presence on Toronto transit a ‘Band-Aid’ solution, calls on city to hire more officers

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the boost in police officers on Toronto transit in the wake of recent violence is a “Band-Aid solution” and is calling for the city to hire more police officers.

The premier’s comments come a day after police announced more than 80 officers would, in a paid overtime capacity, be at Toronto Transit Commission locations to reduce victimization, prevent crimes of opportunity and enhance public safety. The move follows a series of violent cases on the TTC, including stabbings, BB gun shootings and an alleged swarming.

Urban decay is our strength.
