US says Iran hired 3 members of Eastern European mafia to murder dissident Masih Alinejad

The three men plotted to kill outspoken human rights campaigner Masih Alinejad in exchange for cash after a failed previous attempt by Iran to kidnap her.

The United States charged three suspected members of an Eastern Europe-based mafia organization with planning to assassinate Iranian-American activist Masih Alinejad at the behest of Iran, according to federal indictments unsealed Friday.

The U.S. Justice Department said the three men — Rafat Amirov, Polad Omarov and Khalid Mehdiyev, all of whom have been arrested — plotted to kill the outspoken human rights campaigner in July in exchange for cash after the failure of a previous attempt by Iran to kidnap Alinejad.

JIVANI: Trudeau administration funding racial segregation

Racial segregation is not a sign of progress.

I can’t believe this needs to be said in 2023. But, apparently, it does.

For years now, Canadian institutions have surrendered to the demands of critical race theorists and other so-called progressives who argue Canada is a “systemically racist” country.

Child, 13, opens fire in new Jerusalem terror shooting

A 13-year-old Palestinian gunman opened fire in east Jerusalem on Saturday, wounding a father and son, Israeli police said, following one of the deadliest attacks on Israeli civilians in years the night before.

The shooting near the historic Old City of Jerusalem badly wounded a father, 47, and his 23-year-old, son in their upper bodies, Israel’s ambulance service said.

A police spokesman described it as a “terrorist attack” and said the assailant “was neutralised”.

It’s not just the TTC. There’s a growing sense that things in Toronto are spinning out of control

… She is against the big boost to the police budget just announced by Toronto’s mayor, John Tory. She’d like to see the money spent on shelter beds, mental-health supports and help for troubled young people instead.

But she is convinced things are going wrong in her city.

Electric car revolution goes into reverse

Heading to Blackpool to attend an awards ceremony, businesswoman Sophie Preston-Hall not only arrived late, but barely had time to get dressed.

‘I’ve made the journey lots of times. From my home in Essex, it should have taken about four-and-a-half hours,’ says the 49-year-old.

‘Instead it took almost 12. I was an hour and a half late to the dinner and ended up having to change in a Tesco toilet — where I had to ask a woman to zip up my dress for me.’

Pierre Poilievre says ‘everything is worse’ and Justin Trudeau is to blame

OTTAWA—Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre sketched a vision Friday of a country rife with problems caused solely by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and said if he’s refusing to fix them, it’s time to just get out of the way.

Poilievre’s comments kicked off his party’s two-day planning meetings for the coming resumption of Parliament after the winter break.

‘Tip of the iceberg’: why abuse in Canadian sport is worse than it seems

Canada’s government is under pressure to launch an independent judicial inquiry into abuse in sport during a series of parliamentary committees in the country’s House of Commons following harrowing testimonies by abuse survivors in December.

Appeals for a widespread inquiry into abuse from athletes, politicians, and academics have so far been resisted by Justin Trudeau’s government and his Minister for Sport, Pascale St-Onge, sparking one senior member of the government to split from her party to demand “real leaders step up”.

FTX Seeks to Question Sam Bankman-Fried’s Family About Its Wealth

The parents and brother of alleged crypto fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried should be forced to answer questions and provide financial documents about their personal wealth and any money they may have gotten from FTX, the bankrupt firm he founded, lawyers said in a court filing.

FTX asked a judge for permission to question, under oath, Bankman-Fried’s family and a handful of the company’s former top executives as part of a hunt for hidden assets that could be used to repay creditors owed billions of dollars.

An Update on America’s Homicide Surge

New CDC data show that the rise in murders isn’t a “red state” or “blue state” problem.

“… To take one of the more dramatic examples, between the 2018–2019 and 2020–2021 periods, the black homicide rate went up by about 40 percent and the white one by 15 percent—already a glaring disparity. But since the black homicide rate started out so much higher than the white one, this translated to an increase of just 0.4 per 100,000 for whites and 9.7 per 100,000 for blacks—nearly 25 times as large. The increase in the black homicide rate was greater than the total homicide rate for the nation as a whole.”

How George Soros indoctrinates the next generation

Only George Soros could look at the state of American higher education and conclude that it’s not liberal enough.

In 2020 alone, Soros’ Open Society Foundations budgeted more than $63 million, or just over 5% of its budget, toward influencing higher education here and abroad. Over the years Soros has funded more than 20,000 scholarships, invested hundreds of millions into liberal American colleges, and created a University of his own.

Electric Vehicles Are an Ideologically Driven Economic Misadventure

As more motorists own electric vehicles (EVs) and experience problems operating them, evidence shows that the movement to abandon gas-powered vehicles is ideologically motivated and unsupported by rational economic calculation.

In January 2023, four Wyoming state senators and two representatives introduced Senate Joint Resolution No. SJ004 to ban the sale of EVs in Wyoming by 2035. The proposed legislation stressed that “Wyoming’s vast stretches of highway, coupled with a lack of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, make the widespread use of electric vehicles impracticable for the state.” The proposed legislation also noted that “the batteries used in electric vehicles contain critical minerals whose domestic supply is limited and at risk of disruption.”

Shamima Begum: BBC’s First Jihadi Correspondent

As the UK’s public service broadcaster, the BBC’s Royal Charter lays out its mission statement: “To act in the public interest, serving all audiences through the provision of impartial, high-quality and distinctive output and services which inform, educate and entertain.” This is further clarified by its editorial values: “Our audiences have a right to receive creative material, information and ideas without interference. But our audiences also expect us to balance our right to freedom of expression with our responsibilities to our audiences and to our contributors, subject to restrictions in law.”

In other words, the broadcaster attempts to walk the tightrope between free expression and good taste. This is a delicate act: not least because good taste is entirely subjective, but also because one man’s freedom of expression is increasingly another man’s hate speech.

Mammoth Tusks in the East River? How Joe Rogan Started a ‘Bone Rush.’

The surveying vessel Red Rogers made its way up the East River on a recent Saturday, stopping at a precise location off the Manhattan shoreline. Two guests on board — a fossil collector and a treasure hunter with large audiences on social media — tugged on scuba gear and dropped overboard into the frigid waters.

The boat, based in Staten Island, is named for a Korean War veteran and former New York City firefighter — and a redhead — and carries state-of-the-art equipment designed to map and scan the ocean floor to assist in construction, dredging and investigating wrecks.

Are American Women Undatable?

1. No Healthy Person Wants To Play With a Porcupine

That’s the last line from a very interesting Substack entry from Dr. Mike McDonald, the author of a couple of very interesting books about fear and society, which has percolated a good bit over the last month or so. McDonald’s post is entitled “Why American Women Are Undatable,” and it makes some good points. You should obviously read the whole thing, but quickly I’ll just note three of the items inside.

The photo that ‘clears Prince Andrew’ over bath sex

Maxwell lawyers claim ‘frolicking’ with Duke of York could not happen because there was not enough room

A photograph that the family of Ghislaine Maxwell believes discredits the Duke of York’s accuser has been made public.

The image shows the bath in which the Duke is alleged to have engaged in sexual activity with a teenage girl.

Two of Maxwell’s acquaintances are sitting in the bath, fully clothed, wearing makeshift masks depicting the Duke and Virginia Giuffre.
