Netherlands slavery: Saying sorry leaves Dutch divided

Almost half of the Dutch do not support an apology while 38% do, a study revealed

The Netherlands is expected to apologise for slavery, with a speech on Monday by the prime minister and ministerial visits to the Caribbean and Suriname.

But the date chosen and the way the announcement has been organised has prompted criticism, so what Mark Rutte is planning to say is not yet clear.

Critics complain of insufficient consultation and claim the way it has been pushed through by the Dutch cabinet has a “colonial feel”.

Historic biodiversity grift reached at UN conference – 3rd world shithole tyrants luvin the promised cash

MONTREAL – Negotiators reached a historic deal at a UN biodiversity conference early Monday that would represent the most significant effort to protect the world’s lands and oceans and provide critical financing to save biodiversity in the developing world.

The global framework comes on the day the United Nations Biodiversity Conference, or COP15, is set to end in Montreal. China, which holds the presidency at this conference, released a new draft on Sunday that gave the sometimes contentious talks much-needed momentum.

… The financing has been among the most contentious issues, with delegates from 70 African, South American and Asian countries walking out of negotiations Wednesday. They returned several hours later.

Brazil, speaking for developing countries during the week, said in a statement that a new funding mechanism dedicated to biodiversity should be established and that developed countries provide $100 billion annually in financial grants to emerging economies until 2030.

Defiant students, fearful teachers and an elementary school in disarray: What really happened at Pinecrest Public School?

“The student voice was all that mattered, and basically they silenced the teachers’ voice,” said one former teacher.

An alarming email went out to staff at Pinecrest Public School last June with the subject line: “Students reporting they don’t feel safe!”

The sender was Michael Sternberg, a grade 5 and 6 teacher at Pinecrest. He explained how multiple students that very day told him they felt unsafe at the school. “I am not making this up!” he wrote. “Please help! Someone!”

Trudeau’s CBC Lauds Trudeau’s Climate Lunatic

Canadian climate minister’s 1st full year in office was one of cred and compromise

It’s not every day the prime minister asks a rebel to join his cabinet, but for Justin Trudeau, it’s been a well-received gamble.

As his first full year in office wraps, activist-turned-politician Steven Guilbeault is in the midst of hosting the world for the UN’s COP15 conference in Montreal, as Canada’s minister of environment and climate change. It’s the most significant biodiversity conference in over a decade.

COP15 comes on the heels of last month’s heavily attended COP27 — the UN conference for climate negotiations hosted by Egypt.

CNN boss Chris Licht slams ‘stunning’ left-wing ‘vitriol’ aimed at him

CNN boss Chris Licht slammed liberals for criticizing his move to make CNN less partisan, saying it only makes him more confident about his decisions.

“The uninformed vitriol, especially from the left, has been stunning,” Licht, who took over the cable network in May, told The New York Times. “Which proves my point: So much of what passes for news is name-calling, half-truths and desperation.”

Smug scammer

Conservative MPs accused her of shedding crocodile tears and offering a forced apology.

They reminded Mary Ng, the minister of international trade, export promotion, small business and economic development, that she’d broken the law and demanded she resign for giving “sweetheart contracts” to a close friend. Manitoba MP James Bezan called her “corrupt” and asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to fire her.

The truth about Covid McCarthyism

The elites’ blacklisting of lockdown dissenters was shameful and self-destructive.

There were two viruses that the authorities wanted to control in 2020 and 2021. The first was the virus of Covid-19. The second was the virus of dissent. Throughout the pandemic, experts referred to lockdown scepticism and Covid misinformation as their own kind of disease, as a contagious malady that might sicken the masses’ minds as surely as Covid sickened their bodies. British politicians referred to a ‘pandemic of misinformation’. We must protect people both from ‘physical disease and the “disease of misinformation”’, scientists insisted. ‘False information has plagued the Covid response’, said one academic. Plagued – what a striking choice of verb. And if contrary ideas are an infection in the body politic, then it’s clear what the cure must be: censorship.
