Heat or Eat? Natural Gas Prices Set to Skyrocket This Winter on Biden’s Watch

Another day, another terrifying development for struggling Americans on President Joe Biden’s watch.

In addition to historically low levels of diesel fuel supply and depleted home heating oil reserves in the Northeast that will likely result in a literal winter of death for some, millions of American families will soon be forced to gather around the kitchen table for a depressing and scary conversation regarding how they’ll afford natural gas this winter in Biden’s America.

War in Ukraine is ‘Not in the Interests of European Countries’ – French General

The ongoing war in Ukraine is “not in the interest” of Europe, a French General has claimed, saying that the continent has aligned itself too much with American interests on the issue.

General Pierre de Villiers, who formerly served as the Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, argued on Wednesday that European nations should be pushing for a de-escalation of the war in Ukraine, saying that the continued conflict is not in the interests of Europe.

The quiet part is being said out loud more and more. God forbid it is proven that the US had a hand in destroying the NordStream pipelines.

The Crypto Ponzi Scheme Avenger

From his home in New Zealand, the YouTuber Danny de Hek assails what he calls a dangerous and deceptive scheme, one rant at a time.

Last year, Danny de Hek was a social media guru badly in need of a social media guru. A buoyant New Zealander with geeky glasses, he dispensed advice about how to vastly expand your online audience, to a group of just 350 subscribers.

He earned a living by drop shipping electronics as he searched for ways to make serious money. Then, in February, the husband of a friend sent the 52-year-old Mr. de Hek an email crowing about a company that somehow guaranteed outsize and clockwork returns. Investors in what was then known as HyperFund — it has since been rebranded twice — could triple their money in 600 days.

Former boss Sam Bankman-Fried has also stepped down as chief executive, the company said.

It is a massive turn of fortunes for the 30-year-old, who had headed the world’s second largest crypto exchange.

How Australia became the world’s greatest lithium supplier

As demand soars for electric vehicles and clean energy storage, Australia is rising to meet much of the world’s demand for lithium. While this helps reduce the need for fossil fuels, it raises another question – how can we source lithium sustainably?

Brine vs. Hard Rock Lithium Mining

… The refining process carries environmental risks as its energy and chemically intensive, however Allison Britt, director of minerals advice with the government agency Geoscience Australia, says the process of extracting lithium in Australia is not much different to other forms of metals mining. When an economically viable resource is identified, the surface is cleared, the earth is scraped away, the rock blasted and the rubble hauled off for processing into concentrate.

“Each hard rock deposit is its own unique beast,” Britt says. “At a higher-grade deposit, you dig up less rock compared to lithium produced.”

In South America the process is more like playing with a big, fiddly chemistry set. As the lithium lies at the bottom of a salt lake, it is usually mixed with a range of other minerals. Getting it out requires pumping brine out from beneath the bottom of a salt lake into a pit and then waiting for the water to evaporate in the sunlight until lithium concentrations reach 6,000 parts per million. It is a thirsty process – requiring roughly 1.9m litres (418,000 gallons) of water to produce one tonne (2,204lbs) of lithium produced, all of it lost to evaporation – that always carries the risk of leaks and spills.

Interesting article. Despite the apparent abundance of lithium deposits it does not change my mind that the promise of “Electric Cars” for everyone is nothing more than a “Bait & Switch.” The “Switch” is you having no personal vehicle ever again. And Freeland better hope “Friend-shoring” is more than just a talking point.

Prominent academic society defends a professor who advocated destigmatizing pedophilia.

Last year, Old Dominion University professor Allyn Walker was forced to resign after an uproar about his campaign to destigmatize pedophilia, which included the suggestion to rebrand the word “pedophile” as “minor-attracted person” and to provide child pornography to offenders to appease their illicit desires.

We should know which politicians got China’s money

Can we take a break from lecturing Americans about the state of their democracy and focus for a bit on problems with our own?

Canadians love to watch from a safe distance when all the horrors and glories of the American political system are on display, as they are this week as we comb through the results of their midterm elections.

We especially love to pat ourselves on the back for the fact that our system is, for the most part, mercifully free of the most extreme elements of U.S. politics. That’s mostly just good for our national self-regard, but it would be a shame if it distracts us from the disturbing possibility that a foreign power has been actively interfering in our own recent national elections, even changing the outcome in at least one case.

From the Star no less.

We Remember

My Dad. Landed at Juno, severely wounded by shrapnel several weeks into the Normandy campaign. Not a hero. Just a common soldier.

A sense of the sacrifice was passed down to my generation first hand.

Many had parents or knew friend’s parents, or had granddads, uncles and cousins who served in WW I, WW II and Korea.

My Godfather lost a hand in WW I. He always gave me a buck on my birthday. You don’t forget that.

I only had to look at the scars on Dad’s body and his deformed leg.

Today our armed forces can’t meet recruiting goals.

The succeeding generations of the people who sacrificed lives, bodies and minds in our defense no longer desire to join Canada’s military.

What can you say when our Prime Minister goes on vacay for Remembrance Day and hangs out with drag queens.

Fears of ‘bloodshed’: Trudeau aide’s notes detail call with premiers before Emergencies Act invoked

Handwritten notes from one of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s top advisers are shining a light on conversations that took place between the federal and provincial governments just hours before Ottawa announced it would invoke the Emergencies Act to end a series of anti-pandemic measure protests.

A collection of deputy chief of staff Brian Clow’s notes were entered into evidence Thursday before the Public Order Emergency Commission, which is investigating the federal government’s decision to trigger the never-before-used law on Feb. 14. The notes cover Trudeau’s call with the premiers hours before invoking the Emergencies Act.
