Toronto’s top doctor to ‘urgently explore’ re-issuing mask mandates, especially in schools

Plots return from Elba …

Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health has been directed to “urgently explore” the possibility of re-issuing mask mandates, especially in schools.

During Tuesday’s monthly Board of Health (BOH) meeting, Dr. Kate Mulligan introduced the motion, which aims to “reduce the spread of respiratory viruses and protect the capacity of pediatric care services.”

Joe Oliver: Emergencies Act inquiry shows we can’t be selective on civil liberties

The Rouleau Commission has now heard sworn testimony that the Freedom Convoy was not foreign funded and did not constitute a threat to democracy and that the Emergencies Act was not needed or asked for by any police force. That reflects very poorly on the prime minister. The act’s invocation was the worst peacetime assault on civil liberties since Pierre Trudeau’s use of the War Measures Act during the FLQ crisis 52 years ago — when a Quebec cabinet minister was assassinated and a British trade commissioner held hostage.

Five early takeaways from the midterms

There were some crucial results still to come in the 2022 midterm elections as Wednesday dawned.

But some lessons were already clear after a dramatic night.

US midterm elections: Who won, who lost and what it means so far

Hours after the first polls closed, many key races in the US midterms have yet to be called and control of the US Senate, in particular, is still very much up for grabs.

It has been a good enough night for Republicans, but far from a great one. Their hopes of a tidal wave that would sweep them to victory in dozens of toss-up races are not materialising so far.

They have already lost one Senate seat, in Pennsylvania, and will need to flip two among the three states of Nevada, Arizona and Georgia, to take control of that chamber.

Inside Putin ‘punishment camp’ for soldiers refusing to fight

A picture shows Russian troops held in a Putin ‘punishment camp’ for brave mobilised heroes who refuse to fight in his illegal war.

The enlistees were dumped in a cellar in Donetsk region where they are ‘starved’ and ‘threatened with mass execution by firing squad’.

Independent Russian media outlet The Insider highlighted the plight of 21 refuseniks illegally held in the Donetsk People’s Republic, which Putin has annexed.

Fetterman BEATS Dr. Oz in crucial Pennsylvania Senate race: All eyes turn to Georgia, Nevada and Arizona as Trump-backed J.D. Vance wins Ohio – and control of the House hangs in the balance with red wave failing to materialize

Democratic Senate hopeful John Fetterman beat Dr. Oz in the must-win Pennsylvania Senate race in the early hours of Wednesday morning as top Republicans admitted the red wave hadn’t materialized.

In what polls suggested would be a dominant night for the GOP with President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings serving as a drag, the Democrats won crucial House seats on the East Coast and held onto the endangered Senate seat in New Hampshire.

Trump-backed Republican J.D. Vance was victorious in Ohio and Ron DeSantis won a landslide to be re-elected as Florida Governor, but the GOP victory party was put on ice because of Democratic wins in swing states.

I never cared for Oz but losing to Fetterman is just sad.

Increasingly Grave Threats to the Nation’s Ruling Class

I usually get Andrew Sullivan’s Substack Weekly Dish emailed to me. And last week, just before the Nov 8 midterms, he was agonizing over the Biden disaster: “Will Biden and the Dems Finally Get It?

In return for centrists’ and moderates’ support, Biden effectively told us to get lost. He championed the entire far-left agenda: the biggest expansion in government since LBJ; a massive stimulus… mass migration…

Of course, if Trump runs again, Sullivan will vote against him. Because Weimar.

Dems Protect Alleged Pelosi Attacker from Deportation

“San Francisco is a sanctuary city and our policy is sacred.”

Officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security want to deport the man accused of bludgeoning U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer, but District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said Thursday that she will refuse to turn him over, citing San Francisco’s sanctuary city policies.

Green activism is turning apocalyptic

Today’s millenarians appear to be taking their cue from the Book of Revelations

A few weeks ago, I was standing in the cobbled lane that runs between Norwich Cathedral and its exquisite 14th century gatehouse when I heard a man yelling. I assumed initially that he was one of the people who had come to protest a talk that I had just given as part of Norwich’s Hostry Arts Festival, but it soon became clear that it was not trans activism that was exercising him.

Continental Breakfast (Open Thread)

The concept of “offended” is all the rage. I don’t get it. “Offended” is an attitude, not an emotion. Anger is an emotion. So is fear, joy, hurt, etc. Not “offended”. But if we are going to live in this induced-psychosis culture where morons who don’t know what words mean constantly get “offended”, let’s make it interesting. I want the code duello back. There are practical difficulties, (women can’t do swords against men, it’s very class-based, etc.) but I feel that, in the fullness of time, taking things into account and so on, we can move forward, vibrantly, in a productive way.

At least we could get some good scenes out of it.

Feel free to subscribe to my newsletter.  Or suggest some recipes or something, please, thanks.

Why Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse is falling apart

Billions have been wasted on this joyless and flawed VR experience.

Mark Zuckerberg currently sees himself as the chief architect of an elaborate new fantasy world. He calls this world the Metaverse. And he desperately wants the rest of us to start meeting and trading in this virtual-reality frontier town. Last year, he even changed the name of Facebook’s parent company to Meta, just to show how serious he was about the whole enterprise.

Yet while Zuckerberg is pouring billions into the Metaverse to make this vision a reality, back home at Meta HQ, Rome burns. What began as murmurs of discontent have become a full-blown revolt.

Sunny Hostin DENIES calling white women roaches: Claims her words were ‘twisted’ – and defends herself by saying her mom is a roach

Sunny Hostin – TV racist

Sunny Hostin has denied calling white women who vote Republican ‘roaches’ and insisted a comment which made the comparison was ‘twisted’.

The View host said she was using a ‘metaphor, really more in a simile’ when she remarked that white women voting Republican was like ‘roaches voting for Raid’.

She attempted to clarify the controversial comment on Tuesday – five days after making the initial remark on last Thursday’s The View.

Welcome to the missile graveyard that holds clues to Vladimir Putin’s war crimes

On a quiet industrial estate in Kharkiv, the mangled and charred remains of more than 1,000 Russian rockets and artillery shells are being collected.

Each chunk of metal evidences the scale of Moscow’s daily long-range attacks on Ukraine’s second-largest city and the surrounding region.

When The Telegraph visited the “graveyard” for Russian missiles, Dmytro Chubenko held one particular remnant of a strike on a civilian target aloft.
