Reparations: The US town paying its black residents

Evanston, Illinois, is a quiet place in the middle of an unusual experiment.

In this university town just north of Chicago, a sheen of affluence glints through the windows of solid brick buildings downtown, while rainbow flags and “Black Lives Matter” placards dot what seems like every other suburban lawn.

Its population of 78,000 is diverse – about two-thirds white, nearly a fifth black, with sizeable Asian and Hispanic communities – and its politics, predictably, liberal. During the 2020 election, Donald Trump got less than a tenth of the vote here.

Stupid and unnecessary.

DC Comics Cancels Gay Superman Comic Due to Dismal Sales

DC Comics has announced the end of its woke “Superman: Son of Kal-El” series at New York Comic-Con as sales for the title continue to tank.

The series, by writer Tom Taylor, was launched with great fanfare a year ago but has not stood the test of comic book sales. The series will end after only 18 issues, with its final new book hitting stands in December, according to Bounding Into Comics.

Vegan who refused to tackle mice infestation because it was against her ethical beliefs is fined

A vegan who failed to deal with a mouse infestation at her mid-terrace home, claiming that taking action would go against her ethical beliefs, has been fined by a court.

Tendring District Council said 73-year-old Margaret Manzoni, of Clacton Road, St Osyth in Essex, “considered the mice her pets” and “said they would not go to her neighbours because she looked after them”.

The authority prosecuted the pensioner for a second time after she did not comply with a previous order made in April.

Did America cause Europe’s energy war?

Biden doesn’t just want to weaken Russia

All of Europe is suffering as a result of the energy crisis, but for the continent’s largest economy, this is more than just an economic crisis — it’s an existential one. Once hailed as Europe’s economic powerhouse, Germany is now being labelled its “weakest link”.

A recession next year is now considered almost certain; industrial production is down 9% on last year; inflation has soared to double digits for the first time since the Second World War. Given Germany’s deep-seated inflation-phobia, all this is problematic enough. But even more traumatic for the country is the fact that Germany is now running a negative trade balance — the first time this has happened in more than 30 years. This is a very tough pill to swallow for a country where export-led growth is more than just an economic model — it’s part of its national identity.

Durham witness: FBI offered Steele $1M for proof of dossier claims, but he had none

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — The FBI offered British ex-spy Christopher Steele an “incentive” of up to $1 million if he could prove the allegations in his since-discredited anti-Trump dossier, but the former MI6 agent was unable to back up his claims, according to new court testimony.

The bombshell revelation came during special counsel John Durham’s false statements trial against Steele’s main dossier source, Russian-born lawyer Igor Danchenko, who has been charged with repeatedly lying to the bureau about his sourcing for information he provided for the dossier in 2016. Danchenko has pleaded not guilty.

JK Rowling’s brave trans stand has been vindicated

Every day brings new reasons to thank the Harry Potter writer for fighting extreme gender ideology

The transgender children’s charity Mermaids hasn’t exactly covered itself in glory recently. In fact, recent weeks may rank as the worst time for sea maidens since the mermaid-impersonating cleric Parson Hawker was shot at on suspicion of being a French spy while he sat singing on a rock in Bude harbour during the 19th century.
Last week, Jacob Breslaw resigned as a trustee after a newspaper exposed his links with a pro-paedophile organisation. Yesterday it emerged that Darren Mew, Mermaids’ digital engagement officer, had dressed up as a sexy schoolgirl and posted pictures of his genitals on social media. The Charity Commission is investigating Mermaids after a Telegraph investigation found it was handing out breast-binders to girls as young as 13, sometimes behind their parents’ backs.

Pfizer Executive: ‘No, Haha!’ We Didn’t Test If COVID Vaccine Stopped Transmission of Virus

Pfizer executive Janine Small admitted to the European Parliament with a laugh that the company did not test if its COVID-19 vaccine stopped transmission of the virus before the vaccine was put on the market. Apparently knowing whether a vaccine works isn’t important before forcing everyone to get it?

Public Safety Department Censored ‘Hundreds’ of Freedom Convoy Documents, Says Bloc MP

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino’s department censored “hundreds” of pages of documents related to security measures taken against the Freedom Convoy in February, according to Bloc Québécois MP Rhéal Fortin.

Public Safety provided the documents to the Special Joint Committee on the Declaration of Emergency after being ordered to do so by the committee in May. Fortin told the committee on Oct. 6 that it “needs to address” why large portions of the Public Safety documents have been censored.

UK: Treason law update could help to indict expat jihadis

Ministers are planning to update Britain’s 650-year-old treason laws so they can be used to prosecute jihadis, hackers and other “malign” actors who swear allegiance to a hostile foreign power.

Proposals being drawn up by the Home Office would make it an offence to aid a state or organisation that is attacking or preparing to attack the UK or UK forces in an armed conflict. It would apply to anybody in the UK or the actions of British citizens anywhere in the world.

Those convicted of treason would face a life sentence. Government sources said that an amendment updating the 1351 Treason Act could be added to the national security bill, which is going through parliament. A separate piece of legislation is also being considered.

Canadian law enforcement surveilling American gun show in Montana?

Last month, between September 22 through 25, an annual gun show was held in Great Falls, Montana. Sizable crowds attended the event to check out the various firearms that were for sale. But the gathering was also attended by someone who raised eyebrows among the other attendees. As P. Garner Goldsmith at mrcTV reports, several people noticed someone in a car with Canadian license plates observing the comings and goings of attendees at the show. The man turned out to be a policeman, but not of the American variety. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Elon Musk blocks Ukraine from using Starlink in Crimea over concern that Putin could use nuclear weapons: report

Elon Musk personally rejected a Ukrainian request to extend his satellite internet service to Crimea, the SpaceX CEO fearing that an effort to retake the peninsula from Russian forces could lead to a nuclear war, according to a report published Tuesday.

Following Russia’s February invasion of Ukraine, Musk — and the US government — provided Kyiv with thousands of Starlink systems, enabling Ukrainian forces to communicate in what were previously dead zones. The low energy requirements of the service’s satellite receivers have enabled it to be connected to reconnaissance drones, Yahoo News reported, providing valuable, real-time intelligence on Russian movements and the ability to target them.

But recently there have been problems. Last week, the Financial Times reported that the service was suffering “catastrophic” outages on the frontlines, prompting speculation that it had been shut off in areas controlled by Russia — perhaps to prevent the Kremlin from itself exploiting the network.

JAREMKO: Fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty will hurt Canadians

Environmental activists are calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to endorse a dangerous and misguided “fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty” ahead of the COP27 climate summit in Egypt.

They want Trudeau to tell Canadians and the world that ongoing use of Canada’s oil and gas is an imminent threat to human society as bad as the atomic bomb.

I’m sure Junior the Genius thinks it’s a swell idea and it’ll be signed as soon as no one is looking but in the meantime he has Freedo yapping about “energy security” and “friend-shoring” in an uncertain world… it reads like re-election campaign sewage. I would not trust a word uttered by anyone connected to this corrupt Liberal party.

World will likely continue facing a ‘tyrannical Russia’, Freeland warns

Canada’s deputy prime minister urged the world’s democracies Tuesday to confront the hard economic truths of a perilous new world order and seek common cause in the shared values of prosperity, energy security, protecting the planet and free and fair trade.

Chrystia Freeland delivered an eloquent obituary for the relative peace and stability of the 33 years between the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and Russia’s “barbaric violation” of Ukrainian sovereignty in late February of this year.

Protests in Iran Spread, Including to Oil Sector, Despite Violent Crackdown

Defying a lethal crackdown in cities across Iran, protesters demanding the ouster of Iran’s Islamic Republic have driven their uprising into a fourth week, with workers from the country’s vital oil sector going on strike this week and activists calling for further work stoppages and protests on Wednesday.

Despite efforts by Iran’s security forces, including the feared plainclothes Basij militias, to crush the protests, they have only widened. Some have turned into chaotic street battles, with the security forces opening fire and protesters fighting back and refusing to give ground, according to witnesses, rights groups and videos of the clashes on social media.
