Hockey Canada’s director and interim chair Andrea Skinner resigns

New Hockey Canada Board chair gets to work cleaning the joint up.

Andrea Skinner, interim board chair of Hockey Canada, has submitted her resignation, CBC News has confirmed, days after a controversial parliamentary committee meeting where she defended Hockey Canada’s handling of group sexual assault allegations involving past junior players.

The hockey organization has been under intense public scrutiny since May, when it settled a $3.5-million lawsuit by a woman who alleged that eight hockey players — including members of the 2018 world junior team — sexually assaulted her at a hotel in London, Ont., while she was heavily intoxicated.

I’m not kidding about that New Board Chair: If, as seems increasingly likely, Hockey Canada is replaced by a new organization, Professor Ross said that it would be important to rethink that organization’s structure and not simply replace the current outfit. Any new governing body, he said, would have to be led by a board with women as at least half of its members and would have to include Indigenous people, people of color and para-athletes and draw from the entire country.

Russian mercenaries ‘exploiting Africa to fund war in Ukraine’

The United States has accused Russian mercenaries of exploiting natural resources in Central African Republic, Mali, Sudan and elsewhere to help fund Moscow’s war in Ukraine, a charge Russia rejected as “anti-Russian rage”.

The US ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said the Wagner Group of mercenaries are exploiting natural resources and “these ill-gotten gains are used to fund Moscow’s war machine in Africa, the Middle East and Ukraine”.

The growing rebellion facing Joe Biden – and what it means for Europe’s gas supplies

After weeks crossing the Atlantic, the 294-metre Murex gas tanker was finally tugged into the import terminal in Eemshaven, northern Holland, in early September.

Loaded at Cheniere Energy’s export plant located on the Sabine Pass waters, which divide the US states of Louisiana and Texas, the 173,000-cubic-metre capacity ship carried vital gas to Europe as it battles to replace Russian supplies.

But while its arrival was cheered by European leaders seeking solutions to a cost-of-living crisis stoked by soaring energy costs, the local attitude where the shipment began its journey was less enthusiastic.

Tucker Carlson confirms that Kanye West is not crazy

Never judge a celebrity by how the media paints him

Tucker Carlson has tackled a question that has long puzzled Cockburn: is Kanye West crazy?
Ye has had his fair share of controversial moments: he appeared on a 2006 cover of Rolling Stone mimicking Jesus Christ with a crown of thorns. He infamously stormed the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards stage to tell Taylor Swift she didn’t deserve her award. For the past couple years, he’s been battling ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her family, during which time he also became religious, started hosting Sunday Services, and bought a ranch in Cody, Wyoming, which he tried to sell but then took off the market. Most recently, Ye incited establishment ire by wearing a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt alongside conservative firebrand buddy Candace Owens at Paris Fashion Week.

The Twin Crusades Against Drugs and Guns

The war on drugs conspires with the war on guns to make a mockery of justice.

Weldon Angelos grew up in a musical family. His father, a Greek immigrant, aspired to be a country singer, while relatives on his mother’s side were jazz and country musicians. Angelos’ tastes were somewhat different: By his early 20s, he had gotten a start as a rap producer.

Angelos had collaborated with well-known hip-hop artists, including Snoop Dogg. He had his own label in Salt Lake City, Extravagant Records. To supplement his income and support his two young children, Angelos also sold marijuana, which is how he ended up with a 55-year federal prison sentence.

How quickly the First World can become the Third!

How quickly the “First World” can become the Third. How fast people can pivot from sanctimonious, virtue-signaling hypocrites into realists trying to survive. How ironic it is that this occurs concurrently with the assault on free-market capitalism and the abundance of wealth, food, comfort, and infrastructure that only it can provide. And the simultaneous abandonment of standards and abasement of history, tradition, and culture that has led to chaos and destruction in too many of our cities.

The New York Times can’t keep playing the conspiracy card

A stream of corrections is undermining the newspaper’s credibility

The New York Times has, yet again, issued a humiliating correction. Earlier this week, the paper ran a story about a Michigan-based elections software company becoming “a conspiracy theory target” over supposed “election falsehoods”. One example was the claim that Konnech, the company in question, was improperly sharing voter data with China. Yet just 24 hours later, the CEO of Konnech was arrested after investigators found it had stored voter data…in China.

The FBI’s Double Standard on Abortion

“They know who these people are. They’re choosing not to make arrests.”

Last month, The Mother and Unborn Baby Care Center, a pregnancy center in Southfield, Michigan, was vandalized causing thousands of dollars in damages. Graffiti left behind reading, “If abortion isn’t safe neither are you, Jane” linked the attack to Jane’s Revenge, a leftist pro-abortion domestic terrorist group that is believed to be responsible for as many as 50 attacks on pregnancy centers and pro-life groups.

Southfield police notified the FBI which refused to comment on the case.

Berkeley Law’s “Jew-Free Zone” Controversy

They keep using that word…

In August, nine student groups at Berkeley law school signed a statement sponsored group Berkeley Law Students for Justice in Palestine pledging not to invite “speakers that have expressed and continued to hold views … in support of Zionism, the apartheid state of Israel, and the occupation of Palestine.”

Two things need to be clarified. First, by “support” for “the occupation of Palestine” SJP means “supports the existence of Israel.” So any speaker who thinks Israel should exist is forbidden. Second, the pledge is to not invite any speaker on any subject who comes within the scope of the ban. So, for example, if the “Women of Berkeley Law” group wanted to invite a speaker from NARAL to speak about post-Dobbs abortion rights activism, the group would decline to do so if the speaker has ever publicly stated that she’s not in favor of Israel being destroyed (the flip side of Israel existing).

The Russian question

The unravelling of Russian power will shape the future of Europe.

Russia is in a bad place. The war in Ukraine is not going to plan. And its influence over the other nations in its region is starting to unravel.

Until recently, the question of how to integrate a still powerful Russia into the world order was either downplayed or ignored by the West. But no more. Western policymakers and their international allies are finally waking up to the fact that history did not come to an end with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Unresolved questions and conflicts dating back to the early part of the 20th century are coming to the fore once again. This means that, beyond the bloody war in Ukraine, there are other, potentially far more devastating, conflicts ready to erupt.

‘Move before I pull my gun out!’ Outraged DC commuter threatens to SHOOT climate change activists for blocking busy interstate

Commuters in Washington got into a raging confrontation with climate activists on their way to the nation’s capital Friday, with one even threatening to shoot protesters blocking the highway.

A group called Declare Emergency, which is demanding President Joe Biden declare a ‘climate emergency,’ sat themselves down on I-395, one of the main routes to Washington, and refused to get up.

That soon prompted a furious backlash from drivers. One woman got out of her car and threatened the rabble with a gun if they refused to let her past to go see her mom, while an irate man ripped placards out of the group’s hands and tossed them above the median and onto the other side of the interstate.
