If not now, when can Canadians expect an election?

OTTAWA, Ont. — As Canada’s Parliament resumes for its fall sitting, with a new opposition leader in place, one question lurks in the background: How long will it last?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority government is being propped up by the left-leaning New Democratic Party in an agreement that could keep the Liberals in power until 2025 in exchange for progress on key NDP priorities, including a federal dental care plan.

Trudeau at UN says he wants to ‘help’ American women get abortions

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he is willing to help ensure women in the United States who want an abortion can get one.

“We will make sure we continue to fight for better health and reproductive rights all around the world. It used to mean being there to fight for health and reproductive rights in the global south. We’ll help out in the United States if we need to as well,” Trudeau told reporters at the United Nations on Wednesday.

Maybe he thinks he’s running in the mid-terms?

Understanding Germany’s complex public broadcasting system

The scandal around Patricia Schlesinger, former head of Berlin-based broadcaster RBB, has refocused attention on Germany’s complicated network of public broadcasters. Here’s how they’re organized.

It’s much worse than the pic shows. Canada seems bent on a similar set up.

But there are indeed a relatively large number of public broadcasters in Germany, including 21 TV channels and as many as 83 radio stations, funded mainly through the Rundfunkbeitrag levy (literally “broadcast contribution”). Currently set at €18.36 ($18.83) per month, each household in Germany is obliged to pay this fee, which brings in over €8 billion a year. While Deutsche Welle is also publicly funded, its budget comes directly from the federal government, rather than the Rundfunkbeitrag.

It’s an interesting read. Attempts to defund Germany’s media octopus have been dismissed as populist by “journalists.”

The real cause of the Leicester violence is the one thing the Left will never blame it on

THERE is nothing quite like a leftie MP with their head in the sand. But that is what we have with the great case of Claudia Webbe.

Ms Webbe is the MP for Leicester East and, given what is going on in her constituency in recent weeks, it is not surprising that she should try to speak out.

… And what does Corbynite MP Claudia warn about? She has said the Government needs to clamp down on “extremist right-wing ideology” being spread online.

Brian Mulroney urges Pierre Poilievre to appeal to political centre over dinner

Pierre Poilievre must make an appeal to Canada’s political centre if he wants to win government, former prime minister Brian Mulroney says he told the new Conservative Leader this week over dinner.

Recounting the three-hour Monday gathering at Stornoway, the residence of the leader of the Official Opposition, Mr. Mulroney said Mr. Poilievre can only go so far with his own caucus and constituencies, and therefore has to go beyond them.

“You have got to go fish where the fish are and so we talked about that,” Mr. Mulroney said in an interview with The Globe and Mail on Thursday. “You only win elections in Canada from the centre. You cannot win an election from either extreme. This has been proven time and time again. And anyone who wants to test that theory? Be my guest.”

Barely in office two weeks and already the shift to the mushy middle.

Irving shipyard recruiting foreign workers to build new warship fleet despite vow of more jobs for Canadians

Irving Shipbuilding wants to bring in more foreign workers to help construct the Canadian navy’s new fleet of warships.

Irving is involved in a recruiting campaign to bring in workers from the Philippines as it gets ready to construct the first of 15 Canadian Surface Combatants.

… But Irving employees told this newspaper that the firm is losing skilled Canadian shipbuilders because the firm is not paying enough and benefits are lacking.

Big LPC supporters I hear.

Chinese police establish stations in Canada in ‘worrying’ crackdown on citizens abroad

On the evening of Feb. 7, a Chinese woman studying in Canada called a police hotline in a panic.

“Hello, is this the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau? I’ve been scammed,” the woman, surnamed Wang, told the operator. She described how she had been defrauded of about $400 by someone calling themselves a “love-life mentor.”

In Fuzhou, the capital of southeast China’s Fujian province, police tracked the fraudster to the city’s Taijiang district. The man, surnamed Lin, eventually confessed to scamming nine victims out of more than $3,700.

3 in the GTA? Shouldn’t they be shut down? Let’s ask Xi’s lickspittle Trudeau.
