Law enforcement and academics agree that three factors are involved in deterring crime: certainty of apprehension, swiftness of apprehension, and severity of sanctions—in other words, how likely you are to get caught, how quickly you get caught, and how long you spend in prison if you get caught. The two groups disagree, however, about which of these is most important for deterrence. Modern academics insist that length of prison sentences is not crucial, while law enforcement officials believe that the length of incarceration time actually stops people from committing crimes in the future. In a recent report, the United States Sentencing Commission put this question through a rigorous statistical testing procedure involving thousands of inmates over multiple decades and came up with a clear result: length of incarceration matters for recidivism—a lot.

MI5’s public naming of Christine Lee, and a recent unprecedented news conference with the FBI, mark a shift in the approach being taken against the security threat posed by China.

Conservative media are covering a story that transgender boosters want squashed, but even they feel pressured to call an impregnating male a “woman.”

On Saturday, the New York Post began: “A transgender woman behind bars at a New Jersey women’s prison impregnated two fellow inmates…[Demi] Minor, who is serving a 30-year sentence for manslaughter, is in a vulnerable unit in the new facility where she is the only woman, the spokesman said.”

Denmark To Demolish Migrant Ghettos To Combat Parallel Societies

In an effort to combat the rise of parallel societies, the Danish government is set to demolish a ‘migrant ghetto’ area in the city of Aarhus, with around 1,000 homes set for demolition.

The nearly 1,000 homes to be demolished reside in the Gellerupparken area of Aarhus, as part of a plan that was originally formulated in 2018 to demolish and rebuild 15 so-called vulnerable areas across the country.

Will China Shoot Down Explorers to the Moon?

“This is not the first time that the NASA administrator has lashed out at China in disregard of facts,” said Zhao Lijian, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, at his July 4 regular press briefing. “Some U.S. officials have spoken irresponsibly to misrepresent the normal and legitimate space endeavors of China. China firmly rejects such remarks.”

Zhao, known for rabid anti-Americanism, was reacting to attention-grabbing comments of NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. “We must be very concerned that China is landing on the moon and saying: ‘It’s ours now and you stay out,'” Nelson told German newspaper Bild in an interview published July 2.

Nelson has every right to be concerned. America may have to go to war with China if it even wants to land on the moon. The Chinese have made it clear that, if they get there first, they will shoot down visitors.

The mainstream media has picked up on a story of a heroic armed citizen being heralded as “a good Samaritan” for shooting and killing a gunman who opened fire inside a Greenwood, Indiana mall. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s better late than never for such left-leaning media outlets as ABC, NBC, People magazine, the Today Show, the Washington Post and others reporting what gun owners have known forever: the best — and ofttimes only — way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with another gun.

‘Angry’ Canadians putting off travel plans amid airport turbulence, poll finds

The verdict is in: the majority of Canadians believe the scenes unfolding at Canada’s airports are a national embarrassment, and in some cases are so bad that many won’t go near an airport at all until the turbulence improves.

New polling about the state of delays and headaches for travellers at Canada’s major hubs conducted by research group Ipsos suggests that as many as 70 per cent of Canadians feel we should be ashamed on the global stage about our airport fiasco, though only one in 20 say they have been affected by delays.

FUREY: Trudeau’s now being laughed at — the reaction no politician wants

There’s a rule of thumb in politics that goes something like it’s OK to be feared, disliked or even loathed just so long as you’re not being laughed at and mocked.

Yet that’s where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is now finding himself after being teased for his new haircut. The comparisons came in right away: Trudeau’s close-cropped new look made him a dead ringer for Jim Carrey in Dumb & Dumber. If you haven’t seen the film, the title tells you all you need to know. It’s not good to be compared to this character.

I suspect Junior is Kathleen Wynne 2.0.

In her last election campaign everyone tuned her out.

The damage she and McGuinty inflicted on the brand reduced the Liberals to fringe status.

Let’s hope Junior masters the same party trick.
