Vatican tells its money men: you’re banned from investing in guns and porn

The Vatican will not invest in pornography or weapons under a new ethical investment policy that is part of Pope Francis’ efforts to clean up the Catholic Church following a series of scandals.

While there is no suggestion the Vatican currently has money in porn or other unholy industries, the new rules are an attempt to establish tougher principles and oversight in Vatican finances, where management has been chaotic and amateurish.

Wrong Ideas? No Guns for You

It may be coming to your state soon.

Gun permits based on political views. It’s on the horizon for many Americans.

That’s because left-wingers in California, a trend-setting state, have cooked up a new way to stop Republicans, conservatives, libertarians, moderates, and anyone else who refuses to toe the politically correct line from defending themselves from the crime wave that their policies have unleashed on America.

Germany: On second thought, maybe we won’t shut down our remaining nuclear power plants

The energy situation in Germany hasn’t made much sense this year. The country was set to shut down its remaining nuclear power plants this year as part of a long-term push by the Green party to get rid of them. And given that the Green party is currently part of the governing coalition in Germany it seemed nothing would stop that plan.

Rex Murphy: If the Dutch farmers’ protest was happening here, it would be an emergency

There is something happening in the Netherlands that has been happening for weeks, which if anything even closely resembling it were happening in Canada, especially in Ottawa, it would surely be called an “insurrection.” It might even have cabinet ministers and the prime minister calling those participating an intolerable “fringe minority.” Come to think of it, it would probably have driven the government to invoke the civil-rights-denying Emergencies Act, and arrest any of its leaders, especially any of those from the rebellion hot spot of darkest and most menacing Medicine Hat.

Canadians’ Federal Debt Per Person Grew by 35 Percent Under Trudeau Government: Study

Every Canadian’s share of federal debt has spiked by more than $12,000, or an increase of 35.3 percent, since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came to office in 2015, a recent Fraser Institute study shows.

The study compared the debt legacies of every Canadian prime minister since Confederation, looking at how much the federal debt increased or decreased during their time in office. It found that the Trudeau government has accumulated the third-highest debt among all prime ministers since World War II—just behind his father Pierre Trudeau, who saw the federal debt increase by 58.8 percent per person during his second tenure from 1980 to 1984, and Brian Mulroney, with 42.5 percent between 1984 and 1993.

Ottawa’s turbine return may weaken West’s unity against Russia: Rick Hillier

A former Canadian chief of defence staff is warning Ottawa’s decision to return turbines to Russia’s Gazprom could be the start of western economic pressure easing on Moscow.

“This decision to send the turbines back … may be seen as the straw that broke the camel’s back, and we may start to see a relenting of pressure from NATO, from the West in general,” Retired Gen. Rick Hillier said, speaking to reporters Tuesday during a virtual news conference.

“Instead of going upwards and onwards with more and more sanctions, this might be the straw that causes it to turn downwards.”

Judge denies Elon Musk’s bid to delay trial with Twitter over ditched takeover

Elon Musk has lost an attempt to delay a court battle over his abandonment of a $44bn takeover of Twitter, after a judge ruled that the case will be heard in October.

Legal experts said the ruling in Delaware was good news for Twitter, which had asked for a September start date for a trial.

Twitter is seeking a legal ruling that will force Musk to go ahead with an agreed transaction that values the company at $54.20 per share. Musk pulled out of the deal this month, citing concerns over the number of spam accounts on the social media platform.

Hunter’s house of cards: First Son confided to lover Hallie Biden he was feeling pressure over ‘suspected involvement’ in brokering oil deal ‘directly’ with Putin and his missing Chinese partner – just as Joe was about to run for president

Hunter Biden complained to sister-in-law and one-time lover Hallie Biden about feeling ‘alone’ while dealing with the stress of his personal finances, his missing Chinese business partner, and his ‘suspected involvement’ in arranging a multibillion-dollar oil deal with Russia, DailyMail.com can reveal.

In a December 2018 text sent to his lover and brother’s widow, Hallie Biden, the First Son said he was feeling pressure over his ‘suspected involvement in brokering a deal with Vladimir Putin directly for the largest sale of oil [and] gas assets inside Russia to China’.

The deal was a failed purchase of a $9.1billion stake in Russian state oil firm Rosneft by CEFC, a Chinese oil giant Hunter partnered with.

The Post-Prime of Miss Janeane Garofalo

I suspect that there were more than a few youngish New York Times readers who, on July 14, were baffled to turn a page and encounter a 2,500-word think piece about Janeane Garofalo.

Jane who? Perhaps you’re too young to recognize her name, too. But if you’ve seen Seinfeld reruns, you may remember her from an episode in which she played a woman whom Jerry dates because, like him, she eats plenty of breakfast cereal, reads comic books about superheroes, and is dry and sardonic. But he comes to dislike her, and the relationship ends with them exclaiming, simultaneously at a dinner table, “I hate you!”

Biden is a gaffe-ingstock: The decline of the prez — and the presidency

“End of the quote. Repeat the line.” Such is the senescence of the 46th president of the United States that when he is not flat-out misspeaking, it is because he is reading the cues as he stumbles through the see-Jane-run prose of White House speechwriters. Like life at 79, the teleprompts come at you fast.

We must bear this in mind when assessing how consequential it may be when the putative leader of the free world misspeaks. We gasp, yes, but it is probably not as damaging as one might fear.
