The Army is at only 40% of its recruiting numbers for the fiscal year despite raising its maximum enlistment bonus from $40,000 to $50,000. It now offers new recruits up to $10,000 for showing up to basic training in 30 days. And is no longer even asking them for a high school diploma.
“We’ve never offered $50,000 to join the Army,” Maj. Gen. Kevin Vereen, head of U.S. Army Recruiting Command, said.

Russia has accused Ukraine over explosions which reportedly killed three people in the city of Belgorod, near the border with Ukraine.
The regional governor said the blasts hit dozens of residential buildings and air defences had been activated.
The Kremlin said that Sunday’s attack had been a deliberate attempt by Ukrainian forces to target civilians.
Ukraine dismissed the claim, saying the Russians had lied about similar incidents in the past.

Israel has said it will conduct forensic tests on the bullet that killed the Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, a day after Palestinian officials handed over the evidence to a US security coordinator for examination on what they said was the condition that Israel would not be involved.
The testing will be carried out by Israeli investigators in the presence of US observers, the Israeli military spokesperson Brig-Gen Ran Kochav told Army Radio on Sunday.
According to the website Blacklock’s Reporter, on Wednesday the federal cabinet approved a quarter of a million dollars for a group called the Canadian Anti-Hate Network to produce propaganda for school children that seeks to demonize Conservative parties in Canada as hotbeds for white nationalists and other racists.
A now-deleted Instagram feed of one of the Saanich bank shooter suspects contains posts containing anti-government, and pro-gun content.
Twenty-two-year-olds Isaac and Mathew Auchterlonie are the two suspects identified by RCMP.

After years apart, Elizabeth Taliana says she booked a flight for her daughter to fly out from Toronto to Vancouver.
Her daughter only gets one week of vacation from work during the summer.
Even though she made the reservation more than two months ago, Taliana says she only learned recently that her daughter’s flight had been cancelled, a trend Canadians are becoming all too familiar with.
“I have not seen my daughter in almost six years, so this is very distressing,” Taliana told CTVNews.ca in an email.
