Horizon Ottawa, a progressive organization that lobbies for left-leaning municipal policies, is calling for a strong police response to upcoming freedom events in the nation’s capital – while also supporting the Defund the Police movement.
Freedom events are planned next week in downtown Ottawa for the arrival of Canadian Armed Forces Veteran James Topp and in celebration of Canada Day. Organizers are also planning events on weekends throughout the summer.
Erected in 1907, Richmond’s historic statue of Jefferson Davis was destroyed in 2020 by the Black Lives Matter rioters who besieged the city; burning businesses, museums, and homes, even killing a little girl in the name of left-wing racial justice. Along with other statues and artifacts, what remains of the monument to Jefferson Davis was given by Democrat officials to the far-left Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, to be shown off as a trophy in the left’s war on White America.

Justin Trudeau is once again using political events in the US to try and distract from his disastrous ‘leadership’ here in Canada.
In the wake of the US Supreme Court striking down Roe vs Wade, and thus allowing states to make their own laws on abortion, Trudeau saw fit to weigh in:
“Trudeau says the overturning of Roe v. Wade is an “attack on everyone’s freedoms.” He also says that Canada will “expand access to the full range of reproductive and health services across the country.”
Canada does not have any laws limiting access to abortions.
The Trudeau government billed taxpayers $3.1 million in federal salaries to plan Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s commitment to plant two billion trees by 2030.
According to Blacklock’s Reporter, an Inquiry of Ministry tabled in the House of Commons shows that no trees were planted despite the hefty consultation fees.
“The department did not spend any funding to plant trees directly. Rather the department supports organizations planting trees with funding through grants,” wrote Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson.
More than once has it been said that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has an unhealthy obsession with official apologies. The list includes, but is not limited to—the Komagata Maru incident and Canada’s rejection of Jewish refugees in the 1930s. Trudeau has even gone as far as to apologize for an incident occurring before the founding of our country in 1867. When it comes to national self-loathing, the rainbow-filled sky’s the limit.

With the Dobbs decision, the Supreme Court wiped out Roe v. Wade yesterday. It did not ban abortion nationwide. Abortion is not illegal. The Court did what it should have done with this issue eons ago—return it to the legislative process. There is nothing in the Constitution about abortion. There is no constitutional right to an abortion—that’s left-wing propaganda. The fact that the Constitution doesn’t say anything about isn’t a smackdown of the pro-abortion side. It’s a fact. Our founding document doesn’t prohibit it. That’s a good thing for both sides. Pro-life and pro-abortion wings of America can now mount a campaign through the legislative process to either ban or support abortion rights. The way is clear. If pro-abortion forces convince enough people, get enough lawmakers elected, and pass a law—then yes—there is a right to an abortion. For all the hate that was directed at the late Justice Antonin Scalia, he openly admitted that passing a law granting a right to abortion was the right way to solve this issue if that was your position.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and terrorist acts after a shooting in the centre of Norway’s capital, Oslo.

The Supreme Court handed down a landmark decision in support of the Second Amendment this week. Naturally, the backlash has been swift and brutal.
The court ruled 6-3 that New York’s restrictive concealed carry permit system was unconstitutional. Known as a “may issue” system, it essentially required New Yorkers to convince a government bureaucrat that they had “a special need for self-protection distinguishable from that of the general community” in order to carry a firearm outside the home.
The high court’s ruling declares this a violation of the Second Amendment and the 14th Amendment — a violation, given that these amendments establish a right to keep and bear (read: outside the home) arms in self-defense. New York’s subjective, restrictive system treated self-defense as a privilege, not a right, so the justices struck it down.

An airline which ejected at least 25 passengers from a Heathrow-bound plane without telling them why has admitted that some were ‘mistakenly removed’.
Air Canada has confirmed that some passengers had done nothing wrong before its staff accompanied by armed police ordered them off the plane.
Officials have been contacting the innocent passengers to apologise for the blunder and are believed to be discussing possible compensation with them.

We live in a world in which you can be arrested for subjecting your daughter to body modification for Islamic reasons but you will become a star on TikTok for allowing your daughter to have her breasts removed for gender-affirmation reasons. And we need to talk about that.
The war in Ukraine is a multi-dimensional disaster, which is likely to get much worse in the foreseeable future. When a war is successful, little attention is paid to its causes, but when the outcome is disastrous, understanding how it happened becomes paramount. People want to know: how did we get into this terrible situation?
I have witnessed this phenomenon twice in my lifetime—first with the Vietnam war and second with the Iraq war. In both cases, Americans wanted to know how their country could have miscalculated so badly. Well not quite.
To marry in the church we would have to take marriage classes for 2 years. This was in part, at least as I recall, a sort of penance for my previous marriage and divorce.
Fine and good until a Kennedy scion got divorced and was allowed to remarry in a church blessed ceremony all within 6 months.
Kathy was rightly incensed at this two tiered Catholicism.
So it was arrivederci Roma and Viva Las Vegas.
I can’t say I was sorry to miss out on 2 years of classes.
Kathy made arrangements at “The Little Church of The West” and I secured our flight and booked us into the MGM Grand.
We were not long moved into our condo so to save a bit of money Kathy decided she would use her Grandma’s wedding and engagement rings.
We had them resized and polished up at Birks on Bay and Bloor.
They looked great on Kathy’s finger that Saturday morning we went to pick them up.
Then the matter of my wedding ring came up.
The salesperson brought out a selection of their finest or whatever they had on hand after sizing up my wallet and likelihood to purchase.
Bottom line the cheapest of the lot would have run me a thousand bucks. I have never been a fan of jewelry and own only a couple of cheap watches. A thousand bucks did not make sense to me.
Kathy was mortified explaining in a voice cracking with hurt that money should not be an object at a time like this.
I explained that I could get a pretty good band at the Bay for 100 to 150 bucks and we could use the rest as spending money on our Vegas honeymoon.
We walked in dead silence to the Bay. If looks could kill every living thing between Birks and the Bay would have been wiped out in a Kathygeddon.
I bought the band. It remains on my finger and I do not believe I have taken it off more than a half dozen times since we were married.
Kathy forgave me and I apologized for tarnishing her expectations. Give and take. I would not trade my band for anything. Meaning cannot be quantified in a ledger.
It was our anniversary this week. We were married in 2008.
Vegas was in the middle of a heat wave. We were hot on the slot machines.
Pip was left behind in the care of a friend who graciously volunteered as a cat sitter.
I recall Kathy remarking some years later that we sure talked about Pip a lot. She loved her little pal.
It was a wonderful week.

It was then she told me that the pain in her side was growing worse.
Neither of us mentioned Ovarian cancer though I am certain we both feared the worst.
On the way home our route took us past the cemetery. Kathy did not wish to stop to visit her Mom’s resting place.
I felt a chill as an inner voice told me we would be back.
About ten days later at Mt. Sinai Kathy was informed of a “malignancy.”
Today was lovely. A perfect day to stop by Kathy’s resting place with a small bouquet to say hello and give thanks.
Later I stopped by to see my brother in hospice. He is as good as it gets under the circumstances.
We’re still waiting for the OK to bring him some beers.
