A large trucker convoy, calling itself the “Canada Day Convoy,” has plans to come to Ottawa on Canada Day for a “peaceful protest.” The group is looking for the government to lift the remaining mandates and to award back-pay to fired Federal workers.
Ontario’s police watchdog has cleared two Vancouver police officers who fired non-lethal rounds at two protesters in Ottawa during the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protests.
The officers were part of the police operation that helped clear the downtown core of the occupation, which lasted for weeks and led the federal government to invoke the Emergencies Act.
Canada may not have seen the last of the mandatory COVID-19 vaccine passports. Proposed restrictions could even be harsher than before, likely to require three to four inoculations in order to travel.
It’s worth noting that the mandate is not set in stone, but the government is preparing for the possibility of introducing the measures in the Fall. Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos made the announcement during a press conference. The vaccine passport mandate for federal employees and other travelers might be over for now, but Duclos made it clear that it’s likely to return this fall.

In Virginia, the Fairfax County School Board has decided that suspension is the appropriate punishment for “malicious misgendering” and “malicious deadnaming.” In classrooms as early as the fourth grade, if students use the wrong pronoun or wrong name when referring to a classmate, they will be forced to miss valuable school days by a school board that thinks it has the right to control what students say.
This is not an issue limited to northern Virginia. In Kiel, Wisconsin, a school district opened up a sexual harassment investigation into three eighth graders who “misgendered” a classmate. Those students referred to a classmate as a girl rather than the grammatically incorrect “they/them” pronouns the student demanded to be referred to with. The school district sought to destroy those three students for not speaking the way the district demanded.
The bad news is that the Biden administration’s notorious Disinformation Governance Board, a flagrantly unconstitutional effort to restrict the freedom of speech that was “paused” in May after an avalanche of criticism, is back (although its Orwellian name is still on ice). The good news is that heading up Biden’s handlers’ new foray into authoritarianism is none other than Vice President Kamala Harris. This is good news because Harris has handled the previous jobs she has been given with spectacular ineptitude. If she stays true to form this time, she may end up actually strengthening speech protections, rather than destroying them as she has been tasked to do.
Conservative leadership hopeful Pierre Poilievre is threatening to remove direct federal research and other grants from Canadian universities if they do not commit to protect academic freedom and free speech from “campus gatekeepers.”

Russian mercenaries have mounted a series of bloody attacks on artisanal mines in the lawless border zones between Sudan and Central African Republic (CAR) in an effort to plunder the region’s valuable gold trade, witnesses and experts have said.
Dozens of miners are thought to have died in at least three major attacks this year allegedly involving mercenaries working for the Wagner Group, a private military company that has been linked to the Kremlin by western officials. There are also reports of further attacks on mines in at least six other places across CAR.
College Green is part of Bristol’s university district, and usually it is a sleepy part of town, with students catching up on their reading or gathering to do homework. But on June 19, a mob of activists wearing black masks (perhaps for their safety, but certainly not for anyone else’s) and balaclavas gathered to target a lecture held by a 60 women’s rights activists with Standing for Women in honor of Father’s Day. They screamed, jostled, and threatened. Police had to be called in to hold them back.
The activists, called together by the Bristol Anarchist Federation, were trans activists, and the reason for their rage was that the targeted women refused to recognize biological men as women.

A Utah man who says he wanted to prove that he shouldn’t be able to have a gun may get his wish now that he’s been charged with a felony.
Police in Tooele County, Utah say that 33-year-old Spenser Terrell Thomas was arrested on Saturday after pointing what appeared to be a firearm at a local police officer. Thomas was apparently riding an electric scooter down the road when he spotted the officer and approached him.

Imagine this scenario. It’s 2015. Ruth Bader Ginsburg is standing up for women’s bodily autonomy. She gives an interview to MSNBC in which she says every woman in America must have the right to a ‘safe abortion’ if she wants one. The pro-life lobby takes umbrage. Activists turn up at Ginsburg’s home and wave placards and shout slogans. They holler ‘Shame!’ as Ginsburg hides inside. Finally they leave, but one pro-life agitator feels so energised by the anti-Ginsburg fury that he decides he must kill the evil, baby-murdering justice. He goes to her home with zip ties, pepper spray, a hammer, duct tape and a gun. The only thing that stops him from carrying out his heinous deed is the presence of two marshals near the Ginsburg residence. The aspiring murderer leaves, bitter that he was unable to slaughter a judge for her political views.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Law enforcement authorities had enough officers on the scene of the Uvalde school massacre to have stopped the gunman three minutes after he entered the building, and they never checked a classroom door to see if it was locked, the Texas public safety chief testified Tuesday, pronouncing the police response an “abject failure.”
Police officers with rifles instead stood and waited in a hallway for over an hour before they finally stormed the classroom and killed the gunman, putting an end to the May 24 attack that left 19 children and two teachers dead.
The classroom door, it turned out, could not be locked from the inside, yet there is no indication officers tried to open it while the gunman was holed up, Col. Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said in blistering testimony at a state Senate hearing. Instead, he said, police waited around for a key.
