After years of trying, NY is on the brink of requiring ‘microstamping’ technology for new handguns

In 2010, gun-control activists thought they were on the verge of a major victory in Albany.

Led by then-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and backed by his considerable fortune, activists were pushing a bill requiring new handguns be equipped with microstamping — technology allowing a unique code to be etched into each bullet casing as it’s fired. The marked casing could then be used to determine the make, model and serial number of the weapon from whence it came. The technology has been billed as an aid to law enforcement seeking to identify a gun used by an assailant.

Ultimately, they came up short. It’s remained that way for the last 12 years.

  1. Use a revolver. If you need to reload, put the shells in your pocket.
  2. Put a heavy duty plastic bag over the gun and your wrist. Put a rubber ban around your wrist. Also helps to dampen the gunshot noise.
  3. Get a shell catcher, available on Amazon and lots of other places.

Canada’s Crackdown on Guns Sounds a Warning for Us

“In Canada, gun ownership is a privilege, not a right,” said Bill Blair, Canada’s minister of emergency preparedness, before referring to the U.S.:

“This is a principle that differentiates ourselves from many other countries in the world, notably our colleagues and friends to the south. In Canada, guns are only intended to be used for hunting and sport purposes.”

This may be true as a matter of positive law. Canada has gone much further in banning guns than has the United States. Gun confiscation isn’t far off. It’s the logical conclusion of the idea that all deaths attributable to guns are preventable, and any law or right preventing it is illegitimate.

But the notion that firearm ownership is a “privilege and not a right” for Canadians, as opposed to Americans, is incorrect. It is a right, just not one protected by the Canadian government. That’s an important distinction.

I heard voter turnout was estimated at 45% down significantly from the 57% turnout in 2018.

Trudeau at the announcement of Bill C-21 to impose a national “freeze” on the sale and importation of handguns in Canada stated his view that:

“Other than using firearms for sport shooting and hunting, there is no reason anyone in Canada should need guns in their everyday lives. As we see gun violence continue to rise, it is our duty to keep taking action.”

We immediately pick up on the rhetorical nature of media’s presentation. To “investigate a conspiracy theory”— thereby negating the original premise right off the bat. Surely astute observers have noticed a transformation within Canadian media.

In 1991, mainstream media presented the news. In 2021, the press present right and wrong, truth and falsehood, correctness and political incorrectness. What a difference a couple decades make.

Net Zero is a Stalinist fantasy

The UK government is imposing ever more drastic and coercive measures to meet its carbon targets.

As energy prices soar, behind the scenes, the UK government is planning to make it even harder to heat our homes. The government is threatening to force manufacturers of gas boilers to switch to making heat pumps. From 2024 onwards, Whitehall plans to levy severe fines on UK-based boiler manufacturers that fail to meet production targets for heat pumps, hitting them with a £5,000 penalty for each failure to deliver a unit.

These Stalinist reprisals are the latest absurdity to result from the government’s hell-bent pursuit of Net Zero. To meet Net Zero carbon targets, the number of heat pumps installed in homes each year will have to multiply 12-fold over the next six years – from about 50,000 today to 600,000 by 2028. This would be a remarkable feat, given that to buy a heat pump and install a complete system currently costs between £8,000 and £28,000. Meanwhile, a working boiler system comes in at just £2,000 to £3,000.

Don’t Believe Elon Musk’s False Satellite Promises

As he opportunistically elbows out competitors, Musk’s satellite launch and operating business has been systematically crowding out the Earth’s orbit.

The war in Ukraine has been good for Elon Musk, allowing him to grab headlines and commercial opportunities. Online followers delighted in his waggish posts (including a mano-a-mano challenge to Vladimir Putin) even as Musk earnestly advanced his business agenda. Amid the torrent of Elon-tinged ink spilled since the Russian invasion—his $44 billion pending Twitter acquisition, his ongoing battle with the Security Exchange Commission, a new service order by NASA, and more successful satellite launches—the following merit a shout-out:

First, Russia suspended joint space missions with the United States—creating momentum for Musk’s own Lunar and Mars initiatives. Second, the Russian Space Corporation (a Musk competitor for satellite launches) was sidelined by sanctions, allowing him to pick up new customers. Third, Musk’s space-based broadband operation was lauded for gallantly donating satellite receivers to Ukraine. Fourth, unmentioned was the vexing fact that U.S. taxpayers subsidized the “gift” to the tune of $3 million dollars, shipping included.

I like Musk but he has his challenges.
