Canada could face problems buying the specialized steel needed for its new $7-billion polar icebreakers, further driving up costs for taxpayers.
The polar-class icebreaker project was originally supposed to cost $1.3 billion for the construction of one vessel. Two icebreakers will now be built, but the cost has skyrocketed to an estimated $7.25 billion.

After years of prostrating itself before Communist China, Hollywood is now reaping the results of its Faustian bargain. China is blocking more and more Hollywood blockbusters from domestic screens, including major Marvel and Pixar titles that depend heavily on foreign audiences to break even.
Elon Musk has fans all over the ideological spectrum. People on the Left love him for popularizing electric cars with his Tesla company, or maybe for openly smoking pot on podcaster Joe Rogan’s show. Conservatives love him for his entrepreneurial dash and penchant for standing up to politicians and Big Tech censorship of the internet. And everyone loves Musk for responding to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and severing of its communications links by making his Starlink satellite broadband internet service available in Ukraine and donating Starlink terminals to Ukrainians. The Starlink connectivity, according to one report, may even be helping armed Ukrainian drones target Russian military vehicles.
Less is known about Musk’s business dealings in Communist China, but that might be about to change.

Chris MacDonald, national assistant to former Unifor president Jerry Dias, was the whistleblower who reported an alleged kickback scandal after being passed over for an endorsement in the upcoming election for union president, the Star has learned.
Dias, who was under “significant stress” after being forced to choose between two “close friends” to endorse as his successor, was consuming heavy amounts of drugs and alcohol when he allegedly took $50,000 from a COVID-19 rapid test supplier that he promoted to Unifor employers, according to a psychiatric assessment of the long-time labour leader.
Dias subsequently gave $25,000 to MacDonald, who he did not endorse, and stated that the money was from the test supplier, according to the union.

Ever since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau introduced his federal carbon tax, the Liberals have been dining out on their claim that 80% of Canadian households where it applies receive more in carbon tax rebates than they pay in carbon taxes.
