Israeli laws, policies and practices against Palestinians in Israel and the occupied territories amount to apartheid, Amnesty International says.
A new report alleges that the Israeli state maintains “an institutionalized regime of oppression and domination of the Palestinian population for the benefit of Jewish Israelis”.
Apartheid is considered a crime against humanity under international law.
Israel says it “absolutely rejects all the false allegations” in the report.
A foreign ministry spokesperson accused Amnesty of recycling “lies, inconsistencies, and unfounded assertions that originate from well-known anti-Israeli hate organisations”.

It was a whirlwind of a weekend for most following the Freedom Convoy storming into the capital to protest COVID-19 vaccine mandates. It drew widespread support from droves of Canadians fed up with donning masks in enclosed public places and restrictions on accessing services, such as dining out without being vaccinated. Although the convoy listed its initial cause as opposing the federal government’s mandate on vaccinations for cross-border truckers, it turned into a freedom-for-all rallying cry.
Thousands converged on Parliament Hill and provincial legislature grounds Saturday wielding signs depicting violence against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, yelling slurs against journalists, (some of whom received death threats), others were spat on and verbally and physically harassed. Footage of protesters dancing to techno party music, drinking beer and urinating at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier flooded my social media timelines.
“This is about our human rights! It’s for everyone’s human rights!” was the rhetoric I heard repeatedly from protesters, who to me, came off like a bunch of spoiled, disrespectful kids out on a party bender.
Because if you don’t support human rights for Transgender ISIS Terrorist Pedophiles you’re a white supremacist. Oh and you have to believe in residential school hate crime hoaxes, those tree roots need reparations now!

Protesters dig in as trucker protest hits fourth day
The crowds around Parliament Hill have thinned, but protesters have vowed to stay the course as the trucker protest enters its fourth day in Ottawa.
Parliament resumed Monday with the backdrop of incessant truck honking, protester speeches, barbecues, drones flying and streets still in gridlock from transport trucks and personal vehicles parked throughout the downtown core. Some protesters were filmed bringing in fuel and supplies to those who are hunkered down in their vehicles.

Ontario reports 63 new COVID-19 deaths; hospitalizations down 25 per cent from January peak
Ontario reported 63 new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday, as hospitalizations continued a slow decline from their January peak.
Ministry of Health spokesperson Alexandra Hilkene said four of the deaths occurred on Monday, 14 more occurred on Sunday and 20 occurred on Saturday, with the remainder occurring between Jan. 28 and Jan. 4.
Over the past 30 days, 1,238 Ontario residents have died of COVID-19.
568 people are in ICU with #COVID19. 84% of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 16% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 2,622 new cases of COVID-19.

New modelling suggests hospitalizations will ‘rebound’ in all but most favourable of scenarios
New modelling from Ontario’s science table suggests that hospitalizations are likely to “rebound” and remain at a “prolonged peak” following the lifting of some public health restrictions this week.
The latest projections, released on Tuesday morning, use three different scenarios based on varying levels of immunity acquired through infection to chart the path ahead.
BA.2 33% more infectious than ‘original’ Omicron COVID strain, study finds
The BA.2 subvariant of the Omicron coronavirus variant, which has quickly taken over in Denmark, is more transmissible than the more common BA.1 and more able to infect vaccinated people, a Danish study has found.
The study, which analyzed coronavirus infections in more than 8,500 Danish households between December and January, found that people infected with the BA.2 subvariant were roughly 33 per cent more likely to infect others, compared to those infected with BA.1.
O’Toole faces caucus revolt as 35 MPs sign letter calling for leadership-review vote
Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole faces a caucus revolt, with 35 MPs signing a letter calling for a leadership-review vote over concerns about the direction of the Official Opposition party.
The letter, sent to caucus chair Scott Reid on Monday, would require a leadership-review vote by Conservative MPs as early as Wednesday’s regular caucus meeting. If more than 50 per cent of caucus voted against him, Mr. O’Toole would have to step down immediately.
MPs would then have to elect an interim caucus leader while the Conservative Party calls a leadership race. Two sources said at least 63 of the elected 119 Conservative MPs are willing to vote against Mr. O’Toole.
