The sleepless, meth-fuelled unravelling of Rob Reiner’s son

It was meant to be a festive Hollywood party thrown by late-night television host Conan O’Brien, full of industry small talk and seasonal greetings.

But the mood inside the gathering soured before the night was out. Guests recalled raised voices and a heated argument between Rob Reiner, his wife Michele and their son Nick.

Reiner and Michele left the party early after a confrontation unfolded in front of some of the industry’s biggest stars, according to TMZ.

Military head: Britons must be ready to fight as Russian threat grows

Russia could launch a significant direct attack on the UK and more British citizens need to be ready to fight, the head of the armed forces has said.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton said that although the chance of such an attack was remote, that “does not mean the chances are zero”. Russia’s arsenal of weapons was “something to fear” and the threat posed by President Putin was growing.

In a lecture at the Royal United Services Institute (Rusi) on Monday, he said the UK faced the same threat as Germany, which was reintroducing a form of national service.

Foiled Left-Wing Terrorist Attack Must Be The Beginning, Not End, Of Trump’s Antifa Crackdown

Four far-left extremists face a myriad of conspiracy and other felony charges for allegedly plotting a series of New Year’s Eve bombings followed by a similar ambush on Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Los Angeles.

The alleged attacks, hatched by the so-called pro-Palestine Turtle Island Liberation Front, were discovered by law enforcement after four of its members were allegedly caught testing out the pipe bombs they planned to plant at five LA businesses.

Has the BBC met its nemesis in Trump’s formidable $5billion suit?

MAKE no mistake, Donald Trump’s $5billion (£3.7billion) defamation lawsuit against the BBC, filed yesterday, is a formidable document: it is a tightly constructed, meticulously argued claim that accuses the Corporation not merely of error but of intentional deception on a scale that, if proven, could be the most damaging legal defeat in its history.

Filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the complaint names the BBC, BBC Studios Distribution, and BBC Studios Productions as defendants. It seeks $5billion in damages for defamation and for alleged violations of Florida’s consumer protection laws.

New Records Link Carney Floor-Crosser MP to Pro-Beijing Network That Criticized Conservative Leaders’ Tough-on-China Platform and Targeted Foreign-Agent Registry Critics

Made in China

TORONTO — Michael Ma, the Conservative MP who crossed the floor last week to bring Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals one seat short of a majority, was part of a controversial diaspora organization that urged former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole to resign after the 2021 election over what it described as his “anti-China” stance, told Chinese Canadians to “vote carefully” ahead of the 2025 election, and later called for Pierre Poilievre to step down, according to Chinese-language records reviewed by The Bureau.

Europeans May Not Love Trump—but Many Agree With Him

The “weak” elites he attacks are the real enemies of European democracy.

There has been much weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent scathing criticisms of Europe’s “weak” leaders and the danger of “civilisational erasure” on the continent.

Trump has been branded anti-European. But if that was true, then surely millions of European citizens must also be considered “anti-European.” Because they are voting for political parties and supporting protest movements which make strikingly similar criticisms of the EU regime.

Australia ignored growing Islamist threat for too long

There was an air of inevitability as news spread of the massacre at the Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach yesterday. A friend in Sydney told me that almost everyone had been expecting something like this. Counter-terrorism analysts I spoke to yesterday and local media coverage said the same thing.

There is little mystery about the motive here. Sajid and Naveed Akram, the father and son who killed 15 people — including a Holocaust survivor, two rabbis, and a ten-year-old girl — had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (Isis), according to Australian security sources. Naveed, in particular, had been investigated six years ago due to his ties to an Isis cell.

Tasha Kheiriddin: The Conservatives who could replace Pierre Poilievre

Is Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre a dead man walking? Perhaps not yet, but after MP Michael Ma’s shock floor crossing last week, he is certainly limping. The defection reignited the conversation about Poilievre’s leadership that started at budget time, when Conservative MP Chris d’Entremont defected to the Liberals and fellow MP Matt Jeneroux resigned to sit as an independent, bringing the Liberals within sight of a majority government.

Bungling Brown University investigators scramble to find tubby 5’8″ killer who was ‘organized and comfortable’ with causing mass destruction

All criminals wear covid masks.

Authorities are under mounting pressure to track down the ‘organized’ tubby at-large suspect who killed two people and injured nine more in a horror shooting at Brown University.

The bungled response from law enforcement has been widely criticized in the days following the incident on Saturday, including the release of a ‘person of interest’ who was found not to be the killer.

Cops had also previously announced that they had a suspect ‘in custody’ in the aftermath of the killings before walking back the news, and shared conflicting reports of a secondary shooting that were ‘unfounded.’

The Lost Generation

For fifteen years I’ve scalped tickets to pay the bills. But in January 2016 I almost managed a real career. I was thirty-one, I’d been in Los Angeles for five years writing scripts. There had been minor successes, a couple of small projects optioned, and I’d recently started writing with my best friend. We were writing constantly, making each other better, building momentum.

Success felt close. Back then it always did.

We’d written a pilot script that a veteran showrunner had agreed, in a very theoretical, very Hollywood sort of way, to “come on” to. That project had fizzled, so we were surprised when an executive emailed us out of the blue to meet. The showrunner explained he’d submitted us for an upcoming writer’s room he was going to run—the exec had loved our pilot and wanted to hire us.

This was it, the moment our careers were supposed to take off. We’d put in our time—I’d been tutoring SATs and reselling tickets to make ends meet while I wrote—and five years seemed par for the course, based on the slightly older guys we knew who’d made it.

But of course, by 2016, we were already too late.

The Shitification of society continues apace.
