The Supreme Court unanimously rejected Biden administration arguments in a case from Rhode Island that police should be allowed to enter homes without a warrant to seize handguns.
The ruling in the case, Caniglia v. Strom, court file 20-157, came May 17. Oral arguments took place telephonically on March 24.

Universities are no longer that bothered about educating students. At least, not if ‘educating’ means imparting knowledge; facilitating discussion and debate; or encouraging students to read widely, ask questions and engage in research by themselves. So preoccupied have universities become with policing students’ views that education now plays second fiddle to a seemingly far more important project of training students to conform to a woke worldview.
Some 2.7 million metric tons of plastic make their way into the oceans each year and a new study finds the trove of trash comes from 1,656 rivers.
The findings debunk previous research that suggested 90 percent of ocean plastics came just 10 major river systems – the latest concludes that the number is 100 times that.
Several institutions in the Netherlands and one in Germany found these systems contribute to up to 80 percent of all plastics dumped in oceans, with urban areas of South East Asia and West Africa identified as the main hot spots for plastic emission.

OTTAWA — Canadian documentary filmmaker and climate activist Avi Lewis announced Monday that he will run as a federal candidate in the B.C. riding of West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country.
His run for the New Democratic Party will mark the third generation of Lewis’ to have entered politics. His grandfather David led the same party federally, and his father Stephen led the NDP at the provincial level in Ontario.

The media of our day always coalesce around a narrative that fits their preconceived worldview. When viewed in a light that “Palestinians” all are “Victims of Color” and that all Israelis are White Supremacists or their next of kin, it is easy to misjudge the Mideast reality underlying present conflict coming from Gaza. That narrative thus preaches that Jews with legally valid property rights in the eastern portion of United Jerusalem are not entitled to advance their legal claims to oust trespassers, Arab or otherwise, from their homes. The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday agreed to take a major abortion case and would consider Mississippi’s appeal of a lower court ruling that reversed a ban on most abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy.
The case will grant the Supreme Court the opportunity to reconsider landmark abortion rulings including Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. With Roe v. Wade, in a ruling that was derided by conservatives and religious adherents, the high court in 1973 ruled that a woman had a right to an abortion and reaffirmed it about 20 years later.
The governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, has quietly signed into law a bill that requires inmates on death row to choose between a firing squad or the electric chair if lethal injection is not available.
The law, signed without ceremony on Friday, comes amid a shortage of lethal injection drugs that has affected the state’s ability to implement capital punishment. South Carolina has not executed any prisoners since 2011.
Prisoners have chosen death by legal injection, leading to the halt in executions. The new law will put prisoners back in line to be killed by the state.
