Nevada lithium mine leads to ‘green colonialism’ accusations

In the high Nevadan desert near the Oregon border lies an enormous deposit of lithium, a metal that is essential in the production of electric car batteries.

President Joe Biden wants to get it out of the ground. But its exploration is dividing communities which are usually on the same side of political arguments.

Environmentalists and native people cannot agree on whether a new rush for this “white gold” should be supported or fiercely opposed.

‘Here We Go Again’: A Cabinet Minister on Facing Anti-Sikh Bias

Harjit Sajjan WW II – convinces Ike to stage landings in Normandy

In the aftermath of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s assertion that “agents” of the Indian government were involved in the shooting death of a Sikh leader in British Columbia, my colleagues Norimitsu Onishi and Vjosa Isai looked into growing tensions within the Indian diaspora in Canada, ones that reflect divisions in India that have been fueled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalism.

Shock and anger: Israelis search for loved ones after Hamas attack

Steve Markachenko, a 25-year-old from Carmel, in northern Israel, had been looking forward to attending the Nova music festival on a desert kibbutz this weekend. He and his girlfriend, Elisa Levin, 34, drove four hours south on Friday night for the event celebrating the Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot.

But at 6.30am on Saturday, they were among thousands of young partygoers enjoying the sunrise but unaware that their lives were about to change for ever. At first, the air raid sirens seemed as if they were part of the trance music, survivors said. Then rocket vapour trails began appearing in the sky above: people began panicking about being caught in the open and rushed to their cars. And then the gunfire began.

Conrad Black: Trudeau has overseen the chronic backsliding of this once-great nation

Canadians seem not to recognize the undeniable fact that this country is on the verge of (temporarily) becoming an objective failure. For all of our history, most Canadians have had some degree of unease about being subordinate to the British and out-sized by the Americans, and prior to that, in the case of the French-Canadians, about being abandoned by the French and then ignored or disparaged by them. When France was ejected from Canada after nearly 250 years, Voltaire dismissively referred to New France as, “A few acres of snow.” But we have been a successful country, until recently. Prior to this century, the only major wars we engaged in aside from NATO and United Nations missions were the two world wars, the Korean War and the Gulf War, all of which were just wars in which Canada was not itself threatened, sought nothing, but fought with distinction for the cause of freedom throughout the world. We were, along with Australia and next only to the United States, the most prosperous people in the world. We had a strong currency, a growing economy, low crime rates, attracted capital from all over the world, were probably the most racially unprejudiced country in the world, welcomed skilled immigrants from everywhere and built great projects that impressed the world, such as the St. Lawrence Seaway, the TransCanada pipeline and the Montreal World’s Fair in 1967.

The shameful gloating at Israel

Leftists love to fantasise about how heroic they’d have been when Jews were being rounded up in the 1930s. ‘I’d have said something’, they insist. Well, Jews are being rounded up again. They’re being kidnapped, humiliated, paraded through the streets, slaughtered. And leftists are definitely saying something. They’re saying: ‘Good’.

Col. Richard Kemp: Gaza op. too complex for Hamas, Iran and Russia behind it

Colonel Richard Kemp, the former commander of the British military forces in Afghanistan, spoke to Israel National News – Arutz Sheva on Sunday about the Hamas-launched war on Israel in which over 350 people have been murdered so far and stated that Russia’s hand can be seen in the attack in addition to the hand of Iran.

The attack began with a coordinated breach of the Gaza border fence at multiple locations accompanied by the firing of thousands of rockets into southern Israel, allowing squads of terrorists to penetrate into Israel and attack numerous communities and cities in southern Israel in the early morning. Israel was caught completely off-guard by the assault, representing a massive intelligence failure.

ISRAEL AT WAR

You are about to withstand a barrage of lies about the war that broke out today in Israel.

Some of those lies will be explicit. Some of them will be lies of omission. Others will be lies of obfuscation. Or lies of minimization. Lies told by people who are simply too afraid to look at such an ugly, barbarous reality. And lies told by people whose true beliefs are too ugly to quite say aloud. Turn on cable news and you can hear some of them right now.

Hamas celebrations stopped in Berlin amid warning of attacks on Jewish sites

German police broke up pro-Hamas celebrations in Berlin on Saturday night as the country’s antisemitism commissioner warned of attacks on Jewish sites.

Police made multiple arrests in the district of Neukoelln after officers tried to disperse around 40 people who were celebrating on the boulevard of Sonnenallee in the evening.

Officers reported chants of banned slogans such as “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”.

Immigration: Europe’s New Wedge Issue

“This could lead to the dissolution of the European Union!” The “this” in Josep Borrell’s jeremiad is the issue of immigration, which the man in charge of the EU’s foreign policy identifies as an existential threat. Immigration is one of those wedge issues designed to split the electorate into conflictual constituencies while diverting attention from the here-and-now problems for which an increasingly clueless ruling elite seems to have no solutions.

CNN’s Amanpour Enables Hillary Clinton’s Kooky MAGA ‘Cult’ Deprogramming Talk

CNN has been spoon-feeding its liberal audience with clips of a Christiane Amanpour with Hillary Clinton. On Thursday night, conservative Twitter was alarmed by Hillary’s wild talk of a “formal deprogramming of the cult members,” the “MAGA extremists.” We know the FBI is probing the MAGA extremists in the lead-up to the 2024 election, in part because the Democrats really want to paint them as a….Red Hat Menace.
