Toronto to explore municipal sales tax as part of plan to tackle ‘unprecedented financial crisis’

Toronto says it’s facing $46.5 billion in budget pressures over the next decade and wants the province to grant it permission to charge a sales tax within its borders as part of slew of measures to tackle the “unprecedented financial crisis.”

The recommendation to pursue a municipal sales tax was included in a sharply worded 192-page staff report released Thursday that paints a dire picture for the city’s fiscal future without significant new revenue tools and additional assistance from the province and Ottawa.

The report also details measures the city could quickly pursue under its own authority, such as progressively higher rates of land-transfer tax on homes that sell for more than $3 million and increasing the existing vacant homes tax from one to three per cent, both campaign pledges of Mayor Olivia Chow.

Should Ottawa build homes again? ‘Conversations’ happening, minister says

The best-preserved open-air museum of socialist architecture represents the grim reality of oppression

As pressure mounts on the federal government to take a more active role in filling the housing supply gap, the minister in charge of the portfolio is exploring new — and potentially old — approaches to getting homes built.

The need to build more homes to accommodate Canada’s growing population has put the federal Liberal government on the defensive in recent weeks, as opposition leader Pierre Poilievre criticizes Justin Trudeau’s government on concerns over unaffordable housing.

It’s never wise to trust government doubly so when it’s the Trudeau government.

Germany: Unpopular Left-Globalist Politicians Call for AfD Ban

With support for the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party at an all-time high, calls to ban the party outright are growing louder among increasingly unpopular left-globalist politicians, along with their lackeys in Germany’s mainstream liberal press.

Speaking last week at the 75th anniversary of the Herrenchiemsee Convention—the first of which, in 1948, resulted in the initial draft of Germany’s post-war constitution—Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who occupies the largely ceremonial role as President of the Federal Republic, appeared to call for the AfD to be banned, saying: “We all have it in our hands to put those who despise our democracy in their place.”

POILIEVRE clubs baby seals

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre responded in retaliation to a reporter’s accusation during a press conference in Prince Edward Island on Aug. 16 that he’s attempting to “court the far-right,” saying it has no basis in reality.

“I’m sorry that your question seems to be based on a false premise. You can’t even tell me who these experts are. It sounds like it’s just a CBC smear job,” Mr. Poilievre said.

Housing crisis: Trudeau doubles down on destroying dreams of a generation too poor to rent or own homes vows no change to cruel mass immigration scam

The alarm bells are becoming bull horns: Canada’s housing supply isn’t keeping up with the rapid rate of population growth.

Academics, commercial banks and policy thinkers have all been warning the federal government that the pace of population growth, facilitated by immigration, is making the housing crisis worse.

“The primary cause for (the) housing affordability challenge in Canada is our inability to build more housing that is in line with the increase in population,” said Murtaza Haider, a professor of data science and real estate management at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Are the Trump Election-Interference Indictments a ‘Criminalization’ of Speech and Politics?

Yesterday, we posted my column on Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis’s indictment of former president Donald Trump and 18 others. The column addressed the RICO conspiracy charge that is the foundation of the state of Georgia’s case, and in it I said I’d address some other issues in separate posts.

Let’s talk free speech.

VIDEO: A good, quick analysis about China’s serious internal problems

China is a problem. It’s an immediate problem for Taiwan, but it’s also a long-term problem for America, given that it’s our greatest geopolitical enemy (no matter what Democrats say about Russia! Russia! Russia!). However, Ben Shapiro has put together an excellent short video detailing the structural problems that bedevil China and that put it both at risk of implosion and explosion.

Princeton Course Claims That IDF ‘Harvests the Organs of Palestinians’

Jasbir Puar – Queer Theorist and Jew Hater

At Princeton, this fall, for the first time, a course is to be given on “Decolonizing Trauma Studies” — the trauma in question resulting from the horrors visited on the Global South by the mean old settler-colonizers of the Global North, still run by a cabal of cis-gendered white males spouting their hegemonic discourse and bell-curvical racism.
