Raymond J. de Souza: Commonwealth Games’ uncertain future shows need for permanent host cities

The coronation of a new King raised questions about the future of the Commonwealth. What appears not to be in doubt is the future of the Commonwealth Games. They are dead. Or least dead in their globetrotting capacity. For that matter, so too may the Olympics be.

This week, the Alberta government announced that it was scrapping its plans to bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Earlier this year, Hamilton, Ont., which hosted the first Commonwealth Games in 1930, ended its bid consideration for a centennial commemoration in 2030.

People enjoy sport, they enjoy cheering for the home side.

What the average joe doesn’t like is being taken to the cleaners staging an event that rarely offers any benefit beyond the enrichment of the connected.

The Olympics are the Olympics of graft followed closely by the World Cup, they are the sport of greed.

A grateful Canada is spared her shot at a singing career … Sophie’s gonna be a New-Age Yogi

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s next move: Get paid

… The vivacious, new-age yogi and longtime mental health champion is at work on a self-help and wellness project that promises to delve into brain health and “unique emotional signatures” — a reflection of the positive vibes and promises of “real change” that first swept the prime minister to victory in 2015.

Good that she’s chosen the Yogi path.

‘O CANADA’ How Free Are Thee?

… Canada is governed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. How “free” the glorious nation is, has come under debate, with critics accusing the prime minister of totalitarian tendencies on par with what U.S. observers have seen as similar to the U.S. Politicization of Canadian law enforcement and political agencies that have prosecuted critics of the national government, including dissenting clergy, and the crushing of national trucker protests in the frigid winter months in 2023.

US women have been knocked out of the World Cup! Rapinoe misses penalty kick!

Voted least likable.

In stunning fashion, the United States Women’s Soccer team has been eliminated from the World Cup after former co-captain Megan Rapinoe blew a penalty kick.

While the loss cannot be solely put on Rapinoe, who was playing in her last World Cup, the team was up 3-2 in the penalty kicks as she sailed hers wide.

Canada is condemning captured murderous traitors who joined ISIS to ‘life sentence,’ in Syrian camps UN rapporteur says

The UN special rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights says Canada is putting the lives of its citizens at risk by not helping to return them from prisons in Syria.

“It is inconceivable for any country, including Canada, to leave its vulnerable children in these camps for a day longer than they should be,” said Fionnuala Ní Aoláin in an interview airing Saturday on CBC’s The House.

The UN special rapporteur also accused the Canadian government of hypocrisy, arguing that its actions on citizens in Syria devalued other efforts on the international stage.

They made their choice.

Medical groups are memory-holing their trans guidance

The American Academy of Pediatrics wants to review youth gender treatments

This week, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) announced that it was setting out on the long road back to plausible deniability.
At a meeting this week, all 16 AAP board members voted to reaffirm the organisation’s 2018 guidelines on how paediatricians should support “transgender and gender-diverse children and adolescents” — before agreeing that a systematic review of the evidence supporting youth gender transition was in order.

Hunter Biden sold himself as powerbroker when he was actually an easily manipulated low-life: ex-stripper

Hunter Biden Animal Abuse

Hunter Biden sold himself to Chinese and Ukrainian officials as a brilliant conduit to the halls of American power, a closer on the rise who could leverage his vice president father’s clout to get deals done around the globe.

But as his abandoned laptop revealed, behind closed doors the future first son was a crack-addled, selfie-obsessed sex fiend with a roster of hookers bigger than the bureaucracies of some small countries.

Cory Morgan: Canadians Must Push Back Against Government’s Expensive and Annoying Plastic Bans

Lunatic

Just how far can the government go with costly and inconvenient environmental regulations of questionable benefit before citizens decide they have had enough of it?

Steven Guilbeault’s environment department appears determined to find out as they indicate plastic bags and wrapping used for meat and produce in grocery stores will be banned.

There just isn’t a bad idea this government won’t endorse.

Bad behavior at ‘Barbenheimer’ reflects a worrying trend

Drunken outbursts, public nudity and nonstop cellphone use disrupt packed theaters. Have people forgotten how to go the movies?

Ryan Gosling was having a big moment onscreen bro’ing up the Barbie Dreamhouse as Ken when Tess Connolly, 22, first spotted something amiss.

It was a 9:30 p.m. showing of “Barbie” at the Regal Cinema in downtown Denver, and the theater’s manager had begun pleading with a man seated a few rows in front of Connolly and her younger brother. The man, the manager said, needed to leave. But the moviegoer wouldn’t budge. That’s when five security guards showed up and Connolly truly took in the spectacle in front of her — and, unfortunately, it wasn’t Ken shouting “Sublime!”

The Star obtained data on every employment standards claim in Ontario between 2020 and 2022 where money was found owing, or a settlement was reached.

This is the treatment employees can expect thanks to the Trudeau government allowing our “Captains of Industry” to import indentured servants on a whim.

Syrian man accused over 2013 massacre arrested in Germany

A Syrian man accused of leading a pro-government militia in Tadamon, a Damascus neighbourhood that was the site of a massacre of civilians in 2013 filmed by its perpetrators and revealed by the Guardian last year, has been arrested in northern Germany.

The suspect, identified as Ahmad H in line with German privacy rules, is the first person to be detained in connection with crimes in Tadamon, where militia and soldiers loyal to the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, brutalised the local population – recording some of their acts – in the early years of the country’s civil war.

He is accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes including torture and enslavement, prosecutors said on Thursday.
