Canadian governments are spending us into misery

Two statistics illustrate Canada’s disastrous economic outcomes in recent years and the bleak outlook. First, as Fraser Institute senior fellow and former Statistics Canada chief economic analyst Philip Cross observes in a recent study, Canada’s 10-year average real GDP growth per capita was its lowest since the Great Depression. And it’s not a problem we’ve imported: from the fourth quarter of 2015 to the fourth quarter of last year cumulative growth was about two per cent in Canada versus 12 per cent in the United States.

The Historic Trump Indictment Looks Like a Stretch

Democratic Ahabs finally caught their Moby Dick. This past week, former President Donald J. Trump appeared before a federal judge to answer for crimes surrounding the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Despite public fatigue with Trump’s many legal problems, Americans should not misreckon the gravity of the case. This is the most important criminal trial in the history of the Republic. But like in the great Herman Melville novel, the pursuit of the great white whale might end up dooming the voyage, not the whale.

UN ‘Expert’ Demands Christians Comply with Leftist Ideology

A United Nations “expert” adviser on sexual orientation has issued a new report demanding that Christians comply with radical leftist ideology.

In his report, UN “expert” Victor Madrigal-Borloz expresses the idea that religious freedom is “not incompatible” with LGBT ideology.

However, a report from Washington Stand explains that compatibility comes only when faith standards are “subservient” to the sexual-political agenda embraced by LGBT organizations.

Covid, climate change and the weaponisation of Bad Science

IN DANTE’S Inferno, Hell is, counter-intuitively perhaps, freezing cold. In the 9th Circle the Devil is entrapped in a lake of ice. An imaginative inversion of what we normally take Hell to be.

Clearly the 14th century Italian poet didn’t get the memo from UN secretary general Antonio Guterres, for whom the Hell we currently suffer is boiling hot. Or if he did get it, perhaps he binned it. I wouldn’t blame him.

The changing story on Biden family business dealings

Devon Archer, a former friend and business partner to Hunter Biden, testified Monday as part of the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into the Biden family business dealings and alleged foreign corruption. Archer made several key claims, including that Hunter was brought on to the board of Ukranian energy company Burisma because of his familial connections and that Hunter put then-Vice President Joe Biden on the phone his business associates at least twenty times to demonstrate his access to US government power.

Anybody notice Mexico is being taken over by the military?

Mexico has a very popular socialist president whose leftist party is heading for re-election, and there’s precious little reporting on why that may be the case.

But the pieces start to pop together with a long, interesting Financial Times piece that explains what’s going on in Mexico and why Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is popular.

The short answer? AMLO’s turning his country over to the military. The Times begins its piece by focusing on how Mexico City’s main airport has become a military operation.

Planned Parenthood’s Fight for Child Marriage

Yesterday I wrote about a Washington Post article that talked extensively about the persecution of gays in Lebanon, Iran, and other Muslim countries without ever mentioning the ‘M” or “I” word.

Today there’s another “elephant in the room” article. This one about child marriage which is legal in California and staying that way because of the heavyweight power of Planned Parenthood and other leftist groups.

Ukraine has exposed Europe’s liberal myth

An insecure EU is warming to nationalism

Over the past decade, and especially since the political shocks of 2016, there has been an increasing tendency to see both domestic and international politics in terms of a set of binary opposites: democracy and authoritarianism, liberalism and illiberalism, internationalism and nationalism, and so on. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February, this predisposition — a story of good guys against bad guys — has grown even stronger. As comforting as this narrative is, however, it obscures all the complexities and contradictions of the current moment.

Father who battered his daughter, 15, with metal bar outside school because she was wearing make-up is spared jail after her mercy plea

He wears the Mark of Justin!

A father who beat his daughter outside her school during a row over a boy has been spared jail after she gave an emotional courtroom plea for mercy.

Delivery driver Hussein Alinzi, 59, battered the 15-year-old with a metal bar on the morning of her English GCSE exam when he dropped her off early at the gates of the Whalley Range High School to find them still locked.

During the assault Alinzi accused his daughter of secretly planning to a meet a boy ahead of the exam and berated her for wearing makeup. But it later emerged the real reason she did so was to cover up the bruises he had inflicted on her.

Why they hate cars – The green elites have no idea how most people live.

I’ve got some breaking news for you. The war on cars is a myth. Yes, the chattering classes, having previously proclaimed that cancel culture, debanking and gender ideology were also big fat nothing burgers, are now saying that the top-down attempt to price people off the roads, to ban old gas guzzlers, to close roads entirely, all to the ends of ‘greening’ cities and getting to ‘Net Zero’, is also a figment of mine and yours and the Daily Mail comment desk’s fetid imaginations.

Weed Reparations?

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the “CanRenew” grant program will start in fiscal year 2026 for the state. The program is a grant that was part of the recreational marijuana law that was passed by the state. It will allocate $15 million per year to “eligible organizations in communities that have high concentrations of people who were convicted for a marijuana offense or had family members who were convicted.” State senator Lindsey Port, who sponsored the marijuana bill, told the paper …

Protesters who stopped Andy Murray match say they were ‘brutally dragged out, bloodied and bruised’

A climate protest group has claimed its activists were left “bloodied and bruised up” after briefly interrupting Andy Murray’s last-16 clash with top seed Taylor Fritz at the Citi Open in Washington DC on Friday night.

Action was delayed in the first set when three jumbo tennis balls were tossed onto the court in the event’s main stadium, and Fritz later said he found the whole thing “annoying”.

Conrad Black: Richard Bilkszto’s death was the end result of a culture intent on defaming itself

The tragic case of Richard Bilkszto, which shocked Canadians and was publicized internationally, highlights in their most extreme form, the dangers of the militant imposition of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) dogmas. On this occasion, Bilkszto, a well-respected Toronto District School Board (TDSB) principal, attended compulsory DEI sessions in which the lecturer, Kike Ojo-Thompson, upbraided him for disputing her statement that Canada was a more racist country than the United States. She apparently responded unpleasantly that, among other things, ”You in your whiteness think that you can tell me what’s really going on for Black people.” In a second session, she allegedly held Bilkszto’s comments up as a real-life example of being a white supremacist.
