How Budweiser forgot the secret of its own success

The Mulvaney stunt could be remembered as one of the worst marketing missteps in history

If Budweiser is the King of Beers, as its slogan claims, then Bud Light has long been the Queen. Launched over forty years ago, in 1982, and now the world’s most successful low-calorie beer, “B Minus” has long occupied a funny sweet spot in America’s sprawling consumer conscience. Also known as “redneck soda,” “frat water” and “turtle jizz” — Bud Light is a product that conveys a mass-marketable sense of irony. That’s what ad men dream about.

Old Europe’s Fight To Save Its Young

Seige of Malta

On December 4, 2022, the streets of Valetta, Malta, were packed with people hoisting pink signs and large photographs of babies in the womb. The crowd—20,000 strong—headed to Castille Square, the largest in the capital, and placed an enormous photo of a newborn baby on the steps leading to Prime Minister Robert Abela’s office as chants of “Long live life! No to abortion!” rang from the walls. From the square the crowd marched to Republic Street, where former President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, former EU Commissioner Tonio Borg, Irish MP Carol Nolan, retired judge Giovanni Bonello, Life Network CEO Dr. Miriam Sciberras, and other guests delivered speeches.

New Poll on Transgender Rights Shows Americans Are Not ‘Deeply Divided’ on the Issue

Recent polling on transgender rights has been fairly uniform, but you won’t see that reflected in the headlines touting the surveys.

“Americans’ Complex Views on Gender Identity and Transgender Issues,” read a headline from Pew Research last year. In fact, the only issue on which Americans even slightly disagree is whether transgender people should be protected from discrimination. Otherwise, 60% believe a person’s sex is assigned at birth, and even larger percentages say that trans athletes should compete against others of their birth gender.

The Anti-Western Nuclear Club: North Korea, China, Russia and Iran Dangerously Target the West

The anti-Western nuclear club — North Korea, Russia and China, with Iran close to joining the club — have become emboldened and empowered as never before, thanks to the Biden administration’s feeble leadership.

China, North Korea and Russia are building up their nuclear weapons. China may have even surpassed the United States when it come to the number of nuclear warheads on Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) that it currently possesses. On February 21, 2023, the U.S. Strategic Command informed Congress that China now has more ICBM launchers than the United States.

Left-wing extremism in Germany: How much of a threat is it?

Germany is bracing for street protests by the far-left “Antifa” movement this week, after the conviction of Lina E., who was found guilty of physically assaulting neo-Nazis.

Twenty-eight-year-old student Lina E. was sentenced to five years and three months in prison this week for causing bodily harm and belonging to a criminal organization. She and her three co-defendants were found guilty of attacking and seriously injuring suspected right-wing extremists. These acts, the judge said, showed how far militant anti-fascist groups could go.

It is the first such case in for many years, but Germany’s domestic intelligence agency says left-wing extremism is growing. In its latest report, published last year, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) recorded a rise in the number of “violence-oriented” left-wing extremists of around 700 to 10,300 from 2020 to 2021.

‘No Facts’: CNN Falsely Claims Trans Agenda Not Targeting Kids

Erica Hill, anchor of CNN This Morning, chose to celebrate “Pride Month” on Friday morning by “raising the alarm” regarding trans and LGBTQ “rights” alongside Montana State Representative Zooey Zephyr (D), who also happened to be transgender. Hill went so far as to falsely suggest they were “no facts out there” to support the notion that the trans agenda was being targeted at kids.

Oath Keepers convicted in Jan. 6 Capitol riot get prison in latest extremist sentencings

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two Florida men who stormed the U.S. Capitol with other members of the far-right Oath Keepers group were sentenced Friday to three years in prison for seditious conspiracy and other charges — the latest in a historic string of sentences in the Jan. 6. 2021 attack.

David Moerschel, 45, a neurophysiologist from Punta Gorda, and Joseph Hackett, a 52-year-old chiropractor from Sarasota, were convicted in January alongside other members of the antigovernment extremist group for their roles in what prosecutors described as a violent plot to stop the transfer power from former President Donald Trump to President Joe Biden after the 2020 election.

Before Measure ULA took effect in April, some wealthy residents scrambled to avoid paying the new “mansion tax” that would fund affordable housing and homelessness prevention. As the mad dash became public, there was one question on many people’s minds. Why?

Canada to ‘significantly’ enhance military presence in Indo-Pacific region, Anand says

Defence Minister Anita Anand says Canada is committed to the support of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific, and is reinforcing its military presence in the region.

Speaking in Singapore at the Shangri-La Dialogue, an annual intergovernmental security conference, Anand announced Saturday that Canada will significantly enhance its military presence in the Indo-Pacific through Operation Horizon.

Anand said the new operation will replace the Indo-Pacific portion of Canada’s existing Operation Projection.

It sounds like a meager effort to regain favour with allies.

Can anyone beat Olivia Chow for mayor or are we about to witness a mass descent into civic madness?

Can anyone beat Olivia Chow in the race to become Toronto’s next mayor?

The polling seems to suggest no, but with a little over three weeks to go, anything could happen.

It is entirely possible that civic life in Toronto has deteriorated beyond hope of repair.

Tory was a high hatted hypocrite whose legacy may be as toxic as his love life.

If Chow is elected everything will get worse.

Name any wasteful policy and it’s a lock to be enthusiastically embraced by city hall.

‘Wailing for help’: passengers and bystanders tell of India train crash horror

The carriages from three separate trains sat piled high in an entangled wreck. Some lay sideways, others had been thrown so high into the air on impact that they had fallen back to earth twisted and upside down.

A line of dozens of bodies covered in white sheets were laid out next to the wreckage waiting for vehicles – ambulances, local cars, even tractors – to take them away to local hospitals, while more bodies were piled up in a nearby school. Passengers’ possessions lay scattered around them, shoes and toys and suitcases thrown open.
