Canada’s housing affordability crisis is now actually changing people’s lives

They are leaving the cities they grew up in and putting off marriage, children

More than a decade of sky-high housing prices is changing society, according to a new report by Desjardins Group.

Terrible housing affordability is forcing adults aged 34 and younger to flee the cities in which they grew up, the report said. Younger Canadians also are putting off marriage and waiting longer to have children, decisions Desjardins chief economist Jimmy Jean and his team said relate to the instability of renting or residing with family.

Weakening Canada Day Celebrations Follows the Playbook of Oppressive Regimes

Authoritarians in Canada are embracing the tactic of banning celebrations and Canada Day is their prime target following fresh announcements from some cities saying they will cancel or modify traditional July 1 celebrations again this year.

A demoralized citizenry is easier for authoritarians to control than a prideful and happy populace. Totalitarian regimes have a long history of banning celebrations and social gatherings in order to keep citizen morale low and subservience to the state high.

UK cycling federation unveils new transgender policy

Olympic dream derailed.

The UK’s cycling governing body on Friday issued a new transgender and non-binary participation policy that will see competition split into “open” and “female” categories.

The policy has been released after a nine-month review that included a study of pertinent medical research led by Dr. Nigel Jones, British Cycling’s chief medical officer.

That research was said to demonstrate that the performance advantage of people who go through puberty as a male cannot be fully evened out by suppressing testosterone.

Fifty migrants on boat in the middle of English Channel refuse to be rescued by French warship…so UK Border Force picks them up and brings them to Dover

Fifty migrants packed into a floundering rubber dinghy in the Channel were picked up by a Border Force vessel today after refusing to be rescued by a French Navy warship.

In a two-hour operation, Border Force vessel Ranger raced from the Kent coast to the centre of the Channel to bring the ‘agitated’ migrants into Dover.

Videos and maritime radio messages between Ranger and the warship Formentin, obtained by the Mail, reveal a high level of collaboration between the French and British over organising the flimsy dinghy’s journey safely to the UK.

Teacher alleges ‘state of crisis’ at Mississauga school, board launches investigation

School board officials say they are investigating conditions at a Mississauga middle school after an anonymous letter alleged it is in a “state of crisis” and unsafe.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Peel District School Board said it is aware of the letter describing violence by students at Tomken Road Middle School, located in the Applewood Heights neighbourhood. The school, which runs from Grade 6 to 8, has about 900 students.

News of the investigation comes after a letter began circulating on Twitter on Saturday. In an interview with CBC News, the teacher behind the letter said students at the school are out of control.

Why isn’t diversity making that school stronger?

Mr. Singh, axe your alliance with the Liberals

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says his party will “use all our tools” to push for an independent public inquiry into China’s election meddling. He should reach for the one closest at hand: scrapping his parliamentary alliance with the Liberals, as a clear warning to the government that it cannot continue to ignore the will of Parliament.

Not gonna happen. He’s on the take like Justin.

GTA police call on public to help tackle increase in stunt driving

Dangerous stunt driving and street racing has worsened in the Greater Toronto Area, police say — and now law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in reporting the issue.

Representatives from police forces in the GTA spoke at a news conference Thursday to discuss the 2022 results of a multi-jurisdictional street racing elimination program, which was first established in 1999.

“Street races do not acknowledge jurisdictional boundaries. They move through freely through neighbourhoods without concern or thought for public safety,” said Peel Regional Police Deputy Chief Marc Andrews.
