Turkey’s Elections: Nationalist Identity Politics Wins Out Over Misery

On May 14, 64 million citizens of Turkey went to polling stations in the wake of a punishing economic crisis, widening democratic deficit and a government revealed as totally helpless in relief efforts after February 6 earthquakes killed more than 50,000 people. The opposition bloc had never been stronger against an autocratic regime that is giving serious signs of metal fatigue.

Turkey is a poor country where per capita income is barely $9,000. Budget and current account deficits have been ballooning, annual inflation is running at 43% (official) to 105% (unofficial) and unemployment is soaring.

Is AI coming for your job? … Probably

Automation is coming, and this time it’s for the white collar workers.

Artificial intelligence will likely impact every profession, experts tell the Star, and office workers are first in line. But don’t go looking for a new area of employment just yet.

The rise of powerful generative AI programs like ChatGPT and Midjourney means robots can now write sonnets, draw portraits, code programs and much more in seconds, far outpacing humans in certain cognitive tasks.

LEVY: Mississauga school plagued by violence – do woke boards care?

A Peel region school teacher has penned a candid letter pleading for help with the out-of-control violence, vandalism, threats and harassment at her Mississauga middle school.

The letter, obtained by lawyer and anti-woke activist Michael Teper, says Tomken Road Middle School is rife with “countless unsafe interactions on a daily basis” – directed at teachers, custodians, support staff, office administrators and other students.

… It’s all under the guise of addressing woke ideology like anti-black racism, oppression, colonialism, pandering to BIPOC students and calling out white supremacy – instead of providing a positive learning environment for all students.

Shut down the teacher’s colleges and rebuild them from the ground up, previous staff need not apply, OISE is a madhouse. Smash the unions, fire the woke or lose another generation to woke racism.

And end multicult and mass immigration.

France bans short-haul flights to cut carbon emissions

France has banned domestic short-haul flights where train alternatives exist, in a bid to cut carbon emissions.

The law came into force two years after lawmakers had voted to end routes where the same journey could be made by train in under two-and-a-half hours.

The ban all but rules out air travel between Paris and cities including Nantes, Lyon and Bordeaux, while connecting flights are unaffected.

Critics have described the latest measures as “symbolic bans”.

Trudeau Flunky & Fellow China Grifter David Johnston rules out public inquiry into Communist China’s interference in Canadian politics

Former governor general David Johnston says China’s interference in Canadian politics is an “increasing threat to our democratic system” but ruled out a public inquiry on the matter, saying intelligence on Beijing’s activities is highly classified and could never be openly discussed with Canadians.

In a 55-page report tabled Tuesday, Mr. Johnston said he uncovered no proof that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ignored intelligence briefings on Chinese influence operations in the 2019 and 2021 elections, or warnings of attempts by Beijing to intimidate Conservative foreign affairs critic Michael Chong.

“I have not found examples of ministers, the Prime Minister or their offices knowingly ignoring intelligence, advice or recommendations on foreign interference or being driven by partisan considerations in dealing with these issues,” he wrote.

The slimy bastards.

PBO Stands By Report That ‘Clean Fuel Regulations’ Will Hurt Canadian Households Financially

Despite fierce criticism from the Liberals, the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) stands by his analysis of the government’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), which finds that Canada’s lower-income households will bear a greater burden in terms of disposable income due to the increased costs associated with the policy.

The CFR aims to reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuels by 26 million tonnes by 2030, while the government further strives for net-zero emissions by 2050. This policy, however, comes at the cost of an estimated $231 for lower-income households and up to $1,008 for higher-income households at the national level in 2030, according to the PBO’s distributional analysis.
