Construction consortium behind Eglinton Crosstown plans to sue and stop working with TTC: Metrolinx

The group of construction companies responsible for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT is planning to sue Metrolinx, in the latest road block for the project that has been plagued by delays, the provincial government agency says.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, Metrolinx said Crosslinx Transit Solutions (CTS) informed the government agency of its intention to litigate and stop working with the TTC, which will be responsible for operating the line when it’s up and running.

Federal government proposes stricter bail system in new bill

Sick man

The federal government is proposing changes to the country’s bail system that would make it harder for those accused of certain offences to be released on bail.

Bill C-48 would amend the Criminal Code so that those charged with a serious violent offence involving a weapon — one with a maximum penalty of ten years’ imprisonment — who were convicted of a similar offence within the last five years will face a reverse onus to get bail.

“Reverse onus” means the accused would have to show why they should be released instead of the prosecution having to prove that they should remain behind bars.

Frankie Champagne says Stellantis boondoggle is Ford’s fault and he needs to shake down beleagured tax payers and ‘pay fair share’

Champagne says Ontario needs to ‘pay fair share’ to end ‘stalemate’ with Stellantis

Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne is calling on Doug Ford’s Ontario government to pay its “fair share” of subsidies in order to break the “stalemate” that saw Stellantis halt construction of its electric vehicle battery plant in Windsor, Ont., this week.

Stellantis said it stopped construction on a portion of the plant because the federal government had not delivered on what it promised and would move to “contingency plans” should Ottawa not fulfil its negotiation commitments.

“The message to our colleagues in Ontario is: ‘pay your fair share and we will bring this stalemate, if you want, to a conclusion,'” Champagne told reporters in Seoul, Korea on Tuesday.

Volkswagen, then Stellantis: Billions for battery plants, but little on mines for raw material

The federal government and many provincial governments have taken some big steps to seize the potential of the green transition, most recently with the $13-billion subsidy, multiyear subsidy for the St. Thomas, Ont., Volkswagen electric-vehicle battery plant. However, this is not a financially sustainable approach.

Less than a month after that subsidy’s price tag was revealed, news emerged that Ottawa is under pressure to match it for Stellantis STLA-N -0.62%decrease
and LG Energy Solution’s Windsor, Ont., battery plant, with construction at the site halted.

How much will Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives borrow from Donald Trump? Here’s a taste

It could be a coincidence. Within hours of the federal byelections being called on Sunday, a Conservative candidate named Branden Leslie plastered his campaign photo with a hearty “Let’s Go” logo on social media.

Presumably, it was meant to convey Leslie’s unbounded enthusiasm for the coming race in Manitoba’s Portage-Lisgar riding — and has nothing at all to do with “Let’s Go Brandon,” which has a very different connotation in American political-speak.

Here’s Everything The FBI Deliberately Ignored To Get Trump In Russian Collusion Hoax, According To Durham

Special Counsel John Durham released a 306-page report on Monday detailing how Democrat operatives packaged and sold a lie to the all-too-believing Obama administration FBI that former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election.

For more than six years now, corrupt corporate media and Democrats have rallied around that allegation as evidence that Trump shouldn’t hold office. But Durham’s latest report, much like previous investigations into the Russian collusion hoax, once again found that there was no evidence of collusion from the beginning.

California reparations task force says black people should be given PRIORITY in renting and buying real estate

California’s reparations task force has said that black people should be given priority in the renting and buying market – and demanded that a state agency should have the veto power over real estate decisions to ‘lessen racial segregation.’

The task force was created to study the economic effects of slavery and discrimination in the state back in September 2020, making California the first state to embark on studying the possibility of reparations for black Americans — even though slavery was banned in California even before it joined the union.

John Ivison: The Liberals are strangling crypto. Maybe because of something Pierre Poilievre said

Chrystia Freeland is surely the most diligent finance minister this country has ever had — so busy that she can spare an hour of her day on Tuesday to appear at the finance committee to talk about the budget implementation bill, but not a minute more.

The Conservative MPs on the committee have ground proceedings to a halt of late, demanding that the finance minister spend a couple of hours answering questions on an omnibus bill they say amends 51 other acts, Freeland having declined three previous invitations.

But Russia said its attack – which used drones and missiles – had hit all its targets.

Moscow has stepped up its air campaign in recent weeks, ahead of an expected Ukrainian offensive.
