The working-class revolt against Net Zero

Two kinds of road-blocking are taking place in Europe right now. In the first, the sons and daughters of privilege, people with names like Edred and Tilly, are holding up traffic to put pressure on governments to speed up Net Zero. If we don’t cut carbon emissions drastically, they say in their cut-glass tones, our poor planet will be consumed in a heat death of rotten mankind’s own making.

In the second, working people – farmers, truckers, cab drivers – are clogging the streets to put pressure on governments to slow down Net Zero. Or better still, scrap it altogether. If we don’t cut out the Net Zero nonsense, say these people who make and deliver things for the Edreds and Tillys of the world, farms will close, jobs will be lost and economic precarity will intensify.

The Myth of White Supremacy America was never “white supremacist”. Nor was any other place.

White Supremacy BLM Antifa

America was never “white supremacist”. Nor was any other place.

The largest mob lynching in the South was of Italians.

The 1891 lynching of 11 Italians in New Orleans, after a roundup of over 1,000 Italians, grew out of an internal conflict among Louisiana Democrats and was praised by progressives of the era.

“These sneaking and cowardly Sicilians, the descendants of bandits and assassins,” the New York Times editorial board railed. “Lynch law was the only course open to the people of New Orleans.”

Suella Braverman and the dirty secret about white guilt

The chattering classes are mad at Suella Braverman again. What’s she done this time? Brace yourselves: she said racial collective guilt is a bad idea. She said we should not demonise an entire race just because some members of that race did something bad. She said we should never engage in racial shaming. Is there no end to this woman’s nastiness?

I’m old enough to remember when comments like these would have been utterly uncontroversial. When they would have been treated as decent and progressive, in fact. Right-thinking people once railed against the ideology of collective racial punishment, against the ugly idea that the sins of the individual should be visited upon the ethnic group he or she hailed from.

How Nato seduced the European Left

The anti-war movement has fallen for a progressive circus

In January 2018, Nato secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg held an unprecedented press conference with Angelina Jolie. While InStyle reported that Jolie “was dressed in a black off-the-shoulder sheath dress, a matching capelet and classic pumps (also black)”, there was a deeper purpose to this meeting: sexual violence in war. The pair had just co-authored a piece for the Guardian entitled “Why NATO must defend women’s rights”. The timing was significant. At the height of the #MeToo movement, the most powerful military alliance in the world had become a feminist ally. “Ending gender-based violence is a vital issue of peace and security as well as of social justice,” they wrote. “NATO can be a leader in this effort.”

MP Michael Chong says Canada needs to ‘catch up’ to allies on national security threats

Conservative MP Michael Chong told a committee of fellow parliamentarians Tuesday that Canada needs to “catch up” to its allies on addressing foreign interference threats against politicians.

The Globe and Mail, citing a top secret document from 2021, reported earlier this month that the Chinese government was targeting a Canadian MP. An unnamed security source reportedly told the Globe that Chinese diplomat Zhao Wei was allegedly working on efforts to target Chong’s family in China.

Appearing before the House procedure and affairs committee Tuesday evening, Chong said the attempted interference “would likely not have happened” if Canada had policies in place similar to those in the U.S. and the U.K.

Policies similar to the US and UK? Are you crazy? That would mess up the China Grift!

Tom Mulcair: Poilievre could wind up the big winner if Trudeau’s ‘bluff’ doesn’t pay off

Next week we’ll learn what advice former governor general David Johnston has given to Justin Trudeau to deal with the tentacular issues of Chinese government interference in Canada.

Make no mistake: Johnston has absolutely no decision-making powers, despite the high-sounding title of “Special Rapporteur” with which Trudeau saddled him.

Trudeau often says that he’s waiting for Johnston’s decision. That’s just more poppycock in a dossier filled with coverups, stonewalling and outright deception.

Canada ‘extremely concerned’ about fate of Line 5 pipeline in Wisconsin says embassy

WASHINGTON – Canada’s embassy in Washington says it is “extremely concerned” about the fate of the Line 5 cross-border pipeline.

A court hearing Thursday in Wisconsin could determine whether the pipeline, owned and operated by Enbridge Inc., is allowed to continue operating.

“The energy security of both Canada and the United States would be directly impacted by a Line 5 closure,” the embassy said in a statement.

Why am I starting to believe this may really happen?

WARMINGTON: Shoot up at Nathan Phillips Square, but no news conferences, please

The irony was so rich, it would be lost on most people who serve and work at City Hall.

There was mayoral candidate Anthony Furey set up at Nathan Phillips Square, ready to make a campaign announcement that he, if elected, would hire more police to help combat the city’s violent street crime when the hammer and rules came down.

This is a perfect snapshot of Toronto. If Chowcescu wins it will get much worse.

This AI hoax should terrify woke journalists

If a chatbot can churn out hard-hitting think-pieces about why everything on Earth is racist, they’ll soon be out of a job

Last week The Irish Times fell victim to a cruel hoax. On its website it published an opinion column which argued that wearing fake tan is racist. The column attracted a huge volume of traffic, swiftly becoming the second most-read piece on the site. It then emerged, however, that the article had been submitted by a pseudonymous prankster, who reportedly created it using AI.

Stretched Thin

Police agencies across the country are experiencing alarming levels of officer turnover.

The George Floyd protests that erupted in May 2020 not only ignited a nationwide debate about police reform but also sent shockwaves through the ranks of law enforcement. Experienced officers have reportedly fled large urban departments for the relative calm of smaller, suburban departments. While this exodus has garnered some attention, the conversation has largely overlooked the long-term consequences of elevated police turnover, especially for the nation’s largest metropolitan departments. This trend poses a significant challenge to American policing at a time when many cities are grappling with rising violent crime rates and budgetary constraints.

America’s childbirth crisis: Low fertility rates and high housing prices mean there are fewer children in 35 states than five years ago – as teachers and schools face being axed

Thirty-five states have fewer children than five years ago due to declining birth rates nationwide and families moving to different areas to escape rocketing housing prices, new figures show.

California, Illinois and New Mexico, had the biggest decrease, dropping by six percent between 2017 and 2022, according to a Stateline analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data.

It was reported that high housing costs was a factor as families have moved for a lower cost of living. That has led to a decline in school attendance and now school staff are facing the possibility of layoffs.

The Palestinians’ Other Jihad Against Israel

The latest attempt by Iran and its Palestinian terror proxies to kill as many Jews as possible just ended with another “ceasefire” between Israel and the Palestinians that was brokered by Egypt. During the five days of fighting, the Palestinian terror groups in the Gaza Strip, in particular Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), fired more than 1,200 rockets at Israel — a country the size of New Jersey — killing two people and damaging several homes and other buildings.

Prince Harry told that police are not for hire as private bodyguards

Police officers cannot be bought as “private bodyguards for the wealthy”, the Duke of Sussex has been told.

Government and police lawyers said on Tuesday that specialist protection officers “put themselves in harm’s way” and that this should only be done in the public interest. They are defending a judicial review action by the Duke against the Home Secretary for the decision to refuse his request for police protection.

Toronto mayoral candidate Anthony Furey has promised to hire 500 new police officers to help protect scared citizens in what has become a very dangerous city.

“People are telling me they are scared to come downtown to a show or a game or have their kids ride the TTC,” Furey said Tuesday. “It can’t stay like this.”
